- On Tuesday, May 17th The Arthur and Toni Rembe Rock Center for Corporate Governance hosted a conversation with "The King of Torts" Joe Jamail.
During this discussion, Jamail discussed why plaintiff's lawyers are much maligned by corporate players and whether there was a rational argument to be made that some of the plaintiff's bar activity should be embraced (even encouraged) by the likes of independent directors and certain institutional shareholders. If so, what stands in the way of a deeper understanding of the information, incentives, justice, and checks and balances that plaintiff's lawyers inject into the corporate ecosystem?

I am a writer, pilot, professor, and oh yeah, a trial lawyer (about 200). Anything Joe Jamail says is inspirational and spot on accurate.

If there was a Mt Rushmore of lawyers (not counting ones who became President) Joe Jamail & F Lee Bailey would be on it. Not sure who else, if it was 1 per field; Bailey would beat Cochrane and Dershowitz for iconic careers (and Jamail would beat anyone dollar for dollar.)
What about Roy Cohn? He was a top prosecutor for major trials such as the Rosenberg trial and then became a nationally know gunner for hit for the Mob, Celebrities, and Wall St whales. He helped get Raigan elected with his power and then took 20 year old Trump under his wing as his major client and if it weren’t for cancer would’ve been there for his successful campaign as well. Cohn although weird and shady, in my eyes, was clearly one the greatest lawyers to ever live.

what evidence is there that any of the laws of the STATE or Government apply to any living man simply on the basis that they live in a certain geographical location?? Example, say I live in a city and that city has written up a bunch of statutes, codes and regulations for that city.. what is the evidence that any of them statutes, codes and regulations apply to me simply because I am located in that city.. such statutes as utilities not being at a standard of codes they have written..
You also mentioned the constitution.. where do people who create a document such as the constitution get authority over other people who simply make choice to not be so guided by such a document?? How can a group of people who make choice to create a document such as the constitution get their authority over other sovereign human beings to bind them to their documents they wrote and then apply all their statutes, codes and regulations upon living human beings who make no choice at all to accept any such thing in their lives.. how does one living man come to have authority over another living man without consenting to being ruled by him??
When I get into my automobile and travel down the road, say to go to the grocery store. And a police officer pulls me over and asks for Drivers license, Vehicle registration, and proof of insurance.. what is the presumption that I am required to have any of those things?? Clearly I am not engaged in commerce on the highway, I have no cargo and no paid fare, I am alone in my own personal automobile just traveling down a public road.. Is there not a right to travel freely unincumbered without being pulled over?? How can the government and its officers of law take a constitutional right to travel and convert that into a privilege and force me to pay to have a license and register my own property, an automobile to travel on the public roads and highways??
When a mother goes into the hospital to have a child and has a baby boy, a living flesh and blood baby. What gives government the right to demand one to fill out a birth certificate and then take a birth certificate and create a legal fiction corporation out of the name which was put onto that birth certificate.. and then force people to use that birth certificate with the all caps name, a legal fiction corporation and accept that as yourself stealing away the natural and unalienable rights of the individual to become a legal fiction corporation to have jurisdiction over a living man so as to enslave them?? Where does government get that right?? And where then does a court get the right when one goes to court, who has harmed no man or damaged any property whatsoever, to apply their statutes, codes and regulations to a living man. Are not all the lawyers, and judges part of the BAR?? Is that not an english establishment which is under the crown of England?? Why can not a man just walk into court and demand the law of the land, common law?? Why do judges believe they can try people under UCC uniform commercial code without their consent to do so??
When a living man goes out and buys land, why is he obligated to pay property taxes on the land he purchased?? Either he bought the land and the land belongs to him, or he does NOT own the land at all and his purchase did not bring him ownership because another is charging him a rent on the land he bought.. Where does a government get the right to tax the land we purchase??
Well I don't have time to read your novel of a comment, but I will engage you based on the first couple paragraphs.
I think "what evidence" was poor choice of words on your part....the evidence is abundant and copious and omnipresent and constantly reinforced...that is simply how the world works, go to any city, county, state, jurisdiction, province, county, nation, empire, kingdom, village, or shire and you can see the evidence if that is what you are really asking...
Secondly, at least in a democracy, they get the power from the people who elected them....that is the essence of democracy it's rule based on majority....which inherently means there is always a constituency that is unhappy or that you could say has "lost" and that is the minority....if you cannot handle the inevitability that democracy implies that nearly everyone in a well-run democracy will be the "loser" at some point in their lives than you should look into emigrating to a country with an alternative form of governance.

We the people put these men and women and they/thems in office! There is always gonna be taxes. Example A. The road you're traveling down when being pulled over did you think that pavement free? How about the signs? Red-light street lights all the houses and businesses you see off the side? You bring up being pulled over and shouldn't you be able to freely drive. We'll I mean if a man breaks into a house murders a entire family doesn't get caught in the act but 5 minutes of driving down the road he gets pulled over, should he or she be able to claim sovereign and get away? All these laws and rules and taxes we the people put here! If you dont like it, then get you all your sovereign buddies and go buy your own state country or island and make your own rules and laws! Bet yall don't last very long!
