    This type of pörkölt is called the "lecsós pörkölt" because there are pepper and tomato in it. I dont know why there was bay leaves in it. I ate a lot of pörkölt in my life, cooked even more but i never see or use bay leaves in any pörkölt. Marjoram, garlic and cumin are also not part of the traditional pörkölt.

    Wonderful video ... It was just the other day (Jan. 3rd/21) that I made "borju porkolt" on the range in my kitchen - there is a tripod in our backyard but it is 'winter time' - just a bit too cold to stand about outside.
    Thank you so much for your video of a lovely, tasty Hungarian dish. Nagyon szepen koszonom ... my memories of Hungary will never fade; videos such as this serves to 'enhance' my memories of my home country. :):):)

    How long would it take to cook Pörkölt completely?

    • @AdmerosFood
      @AdmerosFood  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the type of meat. It can vary from 2 hours to 4 hours.

      @@AdmerosFood I liked the video, as a born Hungarian this is very close to the "original". Even you used pork fat which is a must for this one! Only one thing: many times, start with fat, onion, and then put the meat in, start heat much and when it is ready (pörkölés=flaming), put off from fire and then put the paprika which is heat sensitive somehow. This way you can avoid to burn the paprika which can cause bitter taste. Otherwise perfect!

    • @AdmerosFood
      @AdmerosFood  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is very true. We tried to be as fast as we could with the paprika, but its safer to just take the cauldron off the fire and mix the paprika.

  • @helenpeterson2677
    @helenpeterson2677 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can we do it with any kind of meat?

    • @AdmerosFood
      @AdmerosFood  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely. You can use any kind of boneless meat. Most common are beef, lamb, chicken and pork, but game, tripe and liver can also be used.

    • @Zappina
      @Zappina 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, no. Pörkölt is best from the pork's leg, although hock pörkölt is also very good. From beef the shin is the best, while from chicken, there are variations like drums, back, breast but more commonly the entire chicken is cooked cutting in pieces. Pörkölt is the best when its simmer for hours on lower temperature.
