The rx2 and rx7 are some of my favorite cars.. but it’s just not worth the time in the rx8 to deal with that high maintenance low power engine… I respect the rotary in the right context, the quad rotor race cars are absolutely stunning. but in a 200hp rx8 with no turbo… it’s just not worth it. Atleast you get a nice platform for your swap in this car. A bigger better looking car than the Miata… but it’s got to be a tight fit for sure.

And yet plenty of RX8 owners dont have a problem using various lubrication options it sounds like ....This swap is so daunting (to me) and I would not be driving the wheels off it miles wise (my 20 year old pick up sole vehicle for majority of time has only 80k and my just totalled 2 year old MX5 I had less than 5k miles on that...So I am imaging with a fresh RX8 motor and carefull attention I could likely enjoy it trouble free the rest of my driving life (late 60s now after all) Besides we will all probably be driving insane EVs in 10 years ...when they wind up running circles around IC cars every performance nut and driving enthusiast except for collector types will probably throw in the towel....I mean if the same car will self drive on command AND handle and accelerate like nothing else AND have a 300 mile daily range? How is anything else gonna compete? Other than the sound tract ....which I mean if it important can be synthetically piped trhough the audio of the car! ANY engine sound! LOL
Looks like dropping the subframe would make the job easier and then putting it back in with the motor and trans as one big piece. Hard thing is you need a lift to do that

RX-8’s are cheap mainly because of the reliability of the rotary. I’d buy a cheap one, drive it until the engine went bang then start an engine swap project with it.
Curious about the steering geometry changes as a result of the steering rack conversion/spacer. Was in engineered at all? I know commonly spacing racks willy nilly can mess up the steering, inducing more bump steer, and other funkiness.
Thicker adapter plate would help, but would simply push everything forward a bunch. The real cutting is only on the cowl section and not on the firewall.
Hey Collins, so, Toyota is coming out with a Three cylinders, all-wheel drive, and 300 hp Toyota GR Corolla Turbo, can we get an adapter plate for that to fit an RX8! Soon as someone crashes one! I'm sure that engine will be the same size as the rotary that's already in it.
This is spot on! +1 on this suggestion for sure. 3 cylinders and the highest specific output engine that Toyota makes right now. Dimensionally this engine would easily fit where a 2-rotor 13B sits.
Would the ac fit in there if i used some 10mm washers to raise the motor and notched the subframe back in that area? There has to be some kinda way to keep ac lol!
If you have a parts car use the harness from that car, if not buy a harness for your specific engine (if it’s a k24a2 get an a2 harness etc). Aftermarket ecus for Honda engines are plentiful and cheap
We do have another shop we work with to supplement the other parts that you mentioned. For NA builds we have a swap header for it that works pretty good.

custom harness $1000-$1300 for a good one, good ECU $1500-$1800. all you really need though is the Adaptronic ECU and custom harness to get all of the guages and A/C working etc.

Haltech elite 1500 ecu works extremely well for this swap. Been running one in my swap for 1yr now. Stock electric steering works,abs,traction control,no dash lights on. Just abit of custom wiring but nothing major.

You can get electric AC/ heat kits that are used for electric vehicles and install them

I have an S2000, it's a great car but I hate replacing the top every 3 years.
In my opinion the rx8 looks bette than the s2000 especially with a body kit.
The RX8 has a better chassis, so really it's the smart man's S2000.

Correct, bump steer adjustment wer factored in, and solved using extended outer tie-rod tappered shafts with spacers on the bottom side.
That's a lot of cutting. My twos questions are, does an Acura V6 not fit better?, and, would a thicker adapter plate require even more cutting?

What would be considered the best transmission options. I see that there are quite a few that can be used. Need something to hold some serious power.
it all depends on how much power you need to hold honestly. CD009 can handle 1100whp from our experience stock.

It's marginal at best honestly. This system is way better suited for endurance racing than trying to use a rotary.
