To me, and and why I watch you, the van itself is irrelevant. Your style is why I personally watch. At the end of the day, you should buy and do what you want in my humble view. If people watch they watch. New people will always replace old. Enjoy the videos.

I have to say, I love your red camper van. I think it has been an important factor in initially helping your subscribers grow, but now Ken and Carol, you have established yourselves as excellent creators on TH-cam. We might put that to the test one day. We filmed a trip in our car doing AirBnB. I am going to edit it and keep it as a contingency series 😁👍
As others have said, the channel is about the two of you and your travels. I've just looked at the Bilbo site and seen the two Van's mentioned, my little contribution is to get what you want, the grey one looks good and is available now.. plus they are quite close to you. Now back to the rest of the video 😊

Just a suggestion : adequate security inside and outside to discourage vandalism. I saw that it had happened to someone else . Terrible, that vandals inflict such damage to people camping. Be safe ❤️

All the comments I have read say exactly what I wanted to say. You two are the stars of the show, the little red is just the medium to show you two in the best light. I also follow a lady in a VW conversion from a Liverpool manufacturer. Having worked for a large volume manufacturer I would always go for a low volume producer. Happy camping.

With a new one we get to go through the experimentation phase again. We enjoy that. In our current van we are at the stage where almost everything has been worked out. 👍
Love watching you two, irrespective of the van. For me, creature comforts in the cab for driving, and a good driving experience is just as important as stuff in the back. I love my transit custom.

Your current van is doing fine, so take your time getting the replacement of your choice. You don't have to compromise at all.

It’s been very interesting to see how the two of you have been able to make the small van work, but we like watching your adventures. It doesn’t really matter what you drive.

( much more comfortable) I’m more for sticking with red as I love the colour of your little red camper 🤣 ( but I don’t drive) we stuck with a manual and had the choice of either at the time. I store stuff in Merlin’s oven. We had a Remoska🤣. We have a combined cooker. Instantpot. Quite big for the van tho. Yours sounds more compact. Well done getting a sponsor for this video. Not heard of JustKampers. Our dealer in Newport won’t consider working on vans they haven’t sold. That’s why Merlin is white. It’s the only colour they sold. Would rather have had grey, but at the time they were being sold up north. We would just go for a diesel heater and gas/ electric for cooking. That way, no cold feet😂👍
Cheers. I think your electric pot is nicer looking than a remoska. Often dealers have more work than they can handle. I remember our caravan dealer saying that having to accept warranty work from non buyers was always a pain. 👍
I personally watch you for the beautiful travel footage. I enjoy how you travel (you look at things I am interested in). Also the fact that you fix you own food is a plus. I have food allergies so I have to fix most of my food on the road, you have got me to the point that I want a van like yours! I also really enjoy your drone footage.

Its been amazing what you/ve been able to accomplish in such a small camper...however it would be great to see you guys in something that makes you happy...get well Carol..and Im glad your better Ken.
If we get as much enjoyment out of the next van as we have out of current one we will be thrilled 👍
Further to my last post - some additional notes. RIB beds are high so check your feet touch the floor when sitting. Headroom is tight when sitting up in a made RIB bed. The pop up roof is ok putting up but you should try getting it down when you view vans. It can be a struggle. Nowhere as easy as yours. Barn doors vs tailgate - this can be a tricky choice. Run a diesel heater before you buy - ours was new and had to be replaced after first use. Twin passenger seat is often used in the VW and that makes it impossible to reach the inside of the van without going outside. A single passenger seat might be preferred. Hope these help. All solid and important points Peter so thank you. Being able to turn seats from inside is a real bonus even if you do have to unlatch the door but anything that needs us to stand in the rain whilst making things up will be a no no. As for the rib, if our feet can’t sit flat then we would also move on. 👍

I agree with a lot of the other comments it’s you that make the channel the both of you are a joy to watch. Regards the van I would have thought something like the ‘wee brown van’ would be ideal for you it’s virtually the same layout but just that little bit bigger and it’s automatic which in my view is a must when you’re at the wheel for so many hours.

My T6.1 is cherry red. I use it as my main vehilce and the colour helps it stand out in car parks and on camp sites. Also it does show up better on photos
Cherry red is a great colour if we can swing that. Time will tell 👍
If you got the perfect van, and it was a dreadful color, you could always have it painted red. Or maybe have your logo painted on the side (in red!). The layout can make or break your comfort, but personally I think the quality of the machine itself is the MOST important variable. Good luck!

I do love the automatic and with modern safety tech for a hill stop with no roll back etc. it just makes for easier driving in my elder years. More relaxing on the road and rested at the next stop. A little more room could be magical and any colour could provide it. Get the pot of red paint out and give the roof a quick splash. Take care, guys. Great job.

The Startline alone is basic but I decided on one myself with an added business pack, which gave me all the extras that I wanted eg multi function steering wheel, Apple carplay, aircon, rear parking sensors & camera. (Can’t remember if anything else). After that there was nothing else on the Highline that I personally needed (like cruise control) and so I saved some money and looking back it was the right decision for me. At the end of the day though it’s always personal preference/needs that will decide for you. If you’re buying brand new to convert it’ll probably make getting a specific colour easier, if that matters to you rather than ready converted with the exact spec you want. I’m interested in all your ideas, as without my husband I am really living in a camper that is far to big for my needs. I’m dithering between vans to caravan , to narrow boats! In the end I love my van, it’s so full of memories….❤️
Not sure I fancy a narrow boat. We have had some hair raising experiences in boats 😁👍. We had caravans for 25 years. No way I would go back to that now we have experienced a van 👍

We toured on a motorbike once but that was before I started filming. Loved the freedom of the bike 👍

We have a Ford Nugget that we also use in daily traffic and are very happy with it. Greetings Chris, from The Netherlands
Love the nugget but think the rear kitchen would be a problem for us with the roof down. We have spent many nights where weather has made us shut the roof. Nugget high top would work well.
It’s all about you as a lovely couple. Other TH-cam channels change things up too. Remember it’s all about the content. As we get older comfort is paramount and what works best for you two, we live in a house sat on a sofa watching you. Subscribers won’t leave if they’re genuinely interested. Love 💕 your vlogs
We spent many hours watching TH-camrs doing van life before we took the plunge. Getting a new van will be nice as it will be a whole new learning curve on how to get the most out of it. We enjoy learning new things and we think we have taken that in the NV200 as far as we can.

We hired one of them once in Thetford Forest. The blooming chain broke and we had to push it back. Happy days 😁👍

I recently bought a new vehicle with adaptive cruise control. I can’t see ever having a vehicle without it again. I love the red color but comfort and luxury is more important. The color should be secondary. You two make the channel. The little red van is an important part but you guys are why I watch. Can’t wait to see which way you go and what you choose. Best of luck. Thanks Anna. We agree once you have got used to the convenience of adaptive you don’t want to go back. Our Volvo can also do the driving but to be honest it can scare the life out of you that 😁👍
@@LifeistooshortCK agreed. I don’t like giving up the wheel, especially to a computer. The adaptive is awesome though. You do still have to be the driver but it’s nice not to have to figure out how fast the guy in front of you is going every single time. The new vehicles have so much more as far as safety features too. I had a 2012 Wrangler which I loved but I totaled her last October in Acadia National Park. My new Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude is a bit fancier, more luxury, good for car camping but filled with safety features my Wrangler just didn’t have. While I miss Roxie (my Jeep who was bright orange, btw), I have become accustomed to the new one quickly. My van life plan is a 4x4 Mercedes Sprinter. Hopefully in a year or two.

VW transporter for me every time, not to big, pop top is great, manual or auto (they don’t go wrong!!) and lots of options. Got mine from Camper King who aren’t local but I see them once a year for a habitation check and that keeps my lifetime warranty up to date. Servicing is done by Lookers VW in Guildford. Love your work!!

Hi you two. We drive regularly from Hamburg to Bournemouth with our Skoda Superb and the adaptive CC is an excellent addition. It allows you to eat up miles without constantly manually adjusting. The addition of an Automatic helps even more. I also think you should stay red and wait for the right configuration. Cheers from Hamburg

Hi, you are right to think about the distance to the dealership. We have had 2 VWs, and the second was a California. We have now swapped to a 6m CV 20, which we do love. If I was ever having another VW, I'd want a conversion with a rear kitchen ( the same layout as the Ford Nuggett). Thank you for sharing your travels and good luck on your van hunt
Our main concern with rear kitchens is having to use them with the roof down. We often keep it down depending on weather and where we are parked 👍. Nice vans though for sure
Get well soon Carol🤒. It's quite exciting following you pondering your next camper purchase. It's all down to what feels right for the 2 of you. It's not as if you only spend the odd few nights in it, and rightly so, life is too short😉to not enjoy it. The only advice I would offer is not to go for the DSG gearbox, they are fine when working ok but prone to clutch failure and expensive to fix. I think you have probably decided on a manual anyway so not really a concern. Looking forward to the next installment and hopefully seeing you both back to full fitness.
Thanks for the tip on DSG. If we do end up going the VW route I fear we might not get the choice on that. We say more about that in part 2

As for colour of your next van. You should choose any colour YOU want, as long as it’s red. 😁

We agree with the consensus of comments, the van colour is largely irrelevant and we would watch you guys driving around in a milk float or whatever you end up with and can't wait to see what you choose.

Good to see you both, don’t worry about the colour get the van with the right kit for you. Not sure why people would say the Wallas wouldn’t keep a van heated in winter, we have enjoyed 3 UK winters with ours with no problems, if you speak to the importer they will steer you towards a certified fitter. I have a VW California DSG with adaptive carouse control, good hight , bed up top , diesel heater, Sat Nav, matches most of you requirements, colour not really important, it more how you two deliver the videos, and the lovely trips, hope you make the relight decision, good luck

Great info there guys. I've never owned a camper van , I've done lots of tent camping.
In the end I believe if you have to wait a bit to get exactly what you want ,I would. But 22 no ths is a bit crazy.
It's a big decision,either way we will follow you on the journey ,as it's the content and yourselves we love to relax and watch. Hope you both feal 100% soon. Some nasty bugs going around.

22 months is too long for us as our van is getting older so we want to switch way before then.
Hi Carol and Ken.
We have had 6 campervans over 30 years. By far our favorite was our T4 vw which we built out ourselves. 10 years of fabulous adventures in that van.
We currently have a citroen high top, again building it out ourselves.
I'm sure you two could do the same and create a van exactly to your own spec and requirements.
We adore your channel. Its you two we watch, not just the van, although the LRC has a place in our hearts!

Very kind of you to say so. We will almost certainly buy a conversion for our next van but I have always wondered about doing a conversion. We will probably get shot of our Volvo as it’s not used much. I could always buy a second van and just experiment.
We have a grey VW 6.1DSG 150bhp and love it. Personally, I wouldn't go for a 110bhp as I can't see it having enough grunt.
We live on the South Coast but went to Redline Campers in Daventry to get ours. Great guys, and they can spec what you want. Highly recommended.

It’s about Ken and Carol on the road. Get the van you want and don’t worry about colour. We have a swb VW Transporter t.6.1 automatic. Conversion by Cambridge Campervans, but there are loads out there. Designated as a light goods vehicle, so speed limited. Pop top makes height about 2.02 m with the solar panel and it’s 4.99 m long. It too has a grill which we use as storage when travelling. It’s a challenge to get everything in and to get access but we are used to it now. However, headroom with the top down is not a tick. We’re thinking of trading it for a high top. Good luck with your search.

Yes it’s you two we watch. The vehicle is just a means whereby. I learned so much from you, and it helped us make the right choice for us. Was very tempted by a Sussex Nv 200- but realised and older Romahome R25 fitted our needs at the moment. I’m sure you are aware that Sussex have a fancy new self lifting pop top that might fit your needs? Good to see you looking better Ken, and Carol I hope you fight off what he’s given you! x

I am not too far off you in age and I think comfort is what you need to go for and ease of driving. Whatever makes the travels easier. You could always get the roof sprayed red so you can still see the van in drone videos (or put some other clear marker on it when you are parked up). As for the channel, I personally watch it for where you go as I don’t travel far myself anymore. That and the smiles. If the van isn’t comfortable and has the things you wanted it just won’t work long term, imho. Good luck, folks!

The VW DSG gear box is effortless and a big step up compared to previous Fiat manual and automatic boxes we have had. Good luck with your search.

Hi, interesting about the manual or auto g.box. The big plus for a manual is if the battery is flat it can be towed or tow started, also minor pluses are being able to "motor" out of water and "motor" off the road should you run out of fuel or minor breakdown. Good luck with your hunt.

Hello from Colorado. I ended up retiring from the police department, after 24 years, quite unexpectedly so I put it on hold since 2021. Just starting up again but I am having it built out. I have a 2018 Chevrolet Express 2500 with a 2.8 Duramax engine I bought used with the intention of having it outfitted. Due to injury I need a high top and am having a Turfport high top installed by Wasatch Overland next month. So I am very interested in your list of what you are looking to have in your new van.

Yes we are finding we get better then relapse and it always gets worse at night. It’s just that cough I have left. Carol at mid point now 👍
The California has much more cupboard space inside because both water tanks are custom moulded into what would have been lost space. Space is usually vital but you two are so we'll organised the extra space liberated might not be necessary, but who doesn't love some free space.
There are loads more benefits of the California too (better upstairs bed, sliding rear seat to name two, but they don't suit everyone and can feel clinical. Also, the VW dealers are hopeless at fixing problems with the camping side.
We also would watch you whatever you choose.
There build quality is impressive. Even with a lot more space we will travel light. I do intend to add a fishing rod and maybe a collapsible fire pit 😁👍
I tried some camping after taking back seats out of my SUV. I had a camp stove and air mattress
Made me realize things that would be essential are a fridge, roof height to stand up and a toilet and shower. I know you don't want the latter but a separate toilet and shower are essential. Cannot jobby in a bucket or a public loo
It’s a good way to understand what is important to you. Cheapest way to do it in the back of a car. Standing up is important for dressing but most of the time we are sat down in our van. As for the bucket we use a Bivvy loo. Thousands are doing that. Most of the time we use good public toilets. 😁👍. Chemical loos are a pain to deal with if you don’t use campsites
Wallas also make a combined oven and hob that runs off diesel (targetted for yachts) you would need a separate heater though

Would watch you both regardless of campervan type. Personally I’d go for bells and whistles as priority over colour….with all the travelling and time away from home think it’s important to be as comfortable as possible. We will almost certainly get adaptive cruise control if we can. Health is improving and Carol has done really well in her recovery.
As so many have said I will continue to 2atch you regardless of what you drive. The only thing I would say is we have an automatic transmission in our van and love it, ease of driving, less fatigue etc
Carol wants an auto and it’s important to me that she enjoys driving the van 👍
The dsg gearbox has a manual setting. Just have the lever in drive and then tap it to the right and you will see plus and minus, push forward to change up and back to go down the gears. Works well on my vw and gives good control on steep downhills.

Van life is 99% relaxing in reality. We always enjoy channels that show that. Real drama is fine but never like seeing it exaggerated 😁👍
I second the opinion that the red camper isn’t my interest in the channel but the two of you are. If you were in a covered wagon I would still watch.

Have you considered a vinyl wrap? You could have any scheme and colours you like and still be able to return to original on resale, minus the stone chips as vinyl is also a good protection. The one thing that puts me off vans rather than campers is the lack of a toilet. Something we need to consider in our later years.
Without a doubt at a certain point in life that toilet becomes much more important. I don’t know much about wrapping vehicles but it’s certainly a consideration. 👍
