    What a beautiful octopus. At first I thought the diver was scaring him and he started running off. I guess his curiosity got him to stick around long enough to touch and feel the diver ! What a joy to commune w/ such a majestic intelligent animal !! I dive the Atlantic so I will never see a guy like this. I would be thrilled to play one on one w/ this incredible creature of the sea !!!!😍😍😍

      @mariashaffer-gordon3561 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@deathbycheese850 I think octopuses go for the gills to suffocate sharks rather than clamping a shark's mouth shut. At least that's what I saw in the one video I watched, where an octopus covered the gill slits on one side and stuck a tentacle through the gill slits on the other side. Unable to breathe, the shark let the octopus go. Pretty impressive.

      We caught one while halibut fishing. We had him on the boat and he was just relaxing on the deck, he did move to one corner. You can clearly see him looking at us and you can see the intelligence in his eyes as he was scoping us out. When we went to pick him up to throw him back he was very relaxed, he knew exactly what we were doing and that we were not threatening him.

      @@fenzirulfr Don't correct people if you don't know what you're talking about. There is no "correct" plural for octopus. There are much better things for you to waste time on.
      "Octopus" is a bastardized combination of greek and latin. The actual Greeks and Latins called them a polypous/polypus. The word "Octopus" is entirely made up by "modern" scientists. The word is latinized greek. The "-us" ending is a latin ending. It makes no sense to add an english plural to a latin suffix, especially when it's "-uses".
      Because the word is fuckin made up, what matters most is what sounds good to people, what's easy to say and write. The people decide how to spell and pronounce words, especially made up words.
      Now if you're really telling us you'd rather be a pain in the ass and argue for "-uses" your whole life, have at. But it makes perfect sense to use a latin pluralization of a latin suffix, and the "-i" suffix is easier to say and sounds much better.
      The only reason this fucking argument exists is because some dickhead wannabe nerds decided a few years ago that the "-pus" suffix must actually be an incorrect spelling of the nearly identical greek "-pous". Those dumb nerds decided then that "-podes" was more correct. It's easily the least correct by any measure. Now we're still having this debate because it left behind half-baked ideas that can make you sound smart
      Language is a convention with guidelines, there's no judge that says how to say words. The people choose how to say words, and 3 syllables is better than 4

    Not exactly giant. You can find plenty of octopi slightly smaller at the western side of Eagle Hawk Neck in Tasmania, Australia.

    So sad these amazing creatures have such short lifespans. Two to four years for most species.
