A prolific Houston rapper with a baritone voice that is both smooth and menacing, Z-Ro merges hip-hop and R&B with explicitly honest tales of street life, relationships, and love. He debuted in the late '90s and first charted with his second album, Z-Ro vs. the World (2000), leading to a long-term affiliation with Rap-A-Lot Records. While signed to the globally recognized Houston label, Z-Ro hit the Billboard 200 with nine albums, starting with The Life of Joseph W. McVey (2004) and including his five-volume "drug series" introduced with Crack (2008) and concluded with Angel Dust (2012). Z-Ro went on to launch 1 Deep Entertainment, the outlet for all of his output since then. Drankin' & Drivin' (2016), No Love Boulevard (2017), and The Ghetto Gospel (2024) are among the full-length highlights of his independent phase. Z-Ro has hit the R&B/hip-hop singles chart several times, as both a featured artist (Bun B's "Get Throwed," Slim Thug's "Gangsta") and lead artist (including "Top Notch" and "Never [These Days]"). He's also known as the Mo City Don, named in reference to the Missouri city where he was raised.

Z-to deserves all the shine and support he’s receiving, guy been grinding for years 💯💯🤘🏿🤘🏿
Can’t wait for the full thing to drop🔥🔥🔥 one my favorite artists
Another Top Tier Interview.
They definitely support Ro, my first time in Houston, in the middle of a packed club, his song came on, and everyone from the bartenders to the bouncers to the dude in the bathroom selling blunts was sing it in sync lol, never seen nothing like it, money wise maybe not, but support is definitely there, but i feel him on the features and barriers
Lies
The song was "Mo City Don" which became an instant classic when it was released 20 years ago.
I live in Houston and he is speaking FACTS. I first moved here in 2004 and went to my first club and at the end of the night they put on MO-CITY DON (Z-Ro) and everyone in the club was singing it word for word. I never seen anything like it either. Few years later I was singing right a long with them LOL

I am tired of people telling artis they can be the new Scarface, Tupac, Big,DMX. Or some other celebrity (JUST BE YOU) IF THEY ACCEPT YOUR ART OF MUSIC GREAT! If not, move on. They said the thing to DMX he's the new 2 Pacàà
You must not heard RO
I never understood that with x and pac, they were two totally different artists
@b9479 Yes, bro facts
Best comment I seen in a while
Good interview, my brother! ❤
Badass interview
Great interview
Dope interview but I like the old set up where we can see both, you and tha host big bro
Its a rap scene in Houston, but its really not a rap scene in Houston because everybody be hating on each other out here.
Houston rappers show love to everyone but themselves
Sounds like here In charlottev
Man stop the cap. Only people that say that shit is Southside people
Sounds like Memphis
Times have changed ...I remember love & hip-hop was taping rappers in Houston but it got so bad they suspended the Houston love & hip-hop series for good...🙄
Zro my favorite artist, my name Bradley Dodson from South Carolina, much love
PROUD OF YOU RO FOR NOT SELLING YOUR SOUL!!! PLEASE NEVER DO, STAY SOLID AND YOU KNOW YOU A BAD MF!!! YOU DO GET RECOGNIZED, JUST NOT IN A SATANIC WAY!!! THANK GOD 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
I Think what Ro is alluding to is quite Genius.. It’s like the Industry doesn’t add up the whole of the industry.. Just the top.. A few artists from a few companies.. Pimp was on that vibe too.. I’m on that vibe.. My Own Music I feel can compete.. They have to look this way..
Great interview. I'll say as a Houston native that one reason the industry aspect doesn't exist here in comparison to Atlanta is that Houston music stopped evolving after the run in the 2000s. They didn't do a good job of bringing in young talent to carry on tradition. Houston rappers were getting work with Pharrell, Jay, Kanye, Jeezy, Drake, Gwen Stefani, etc in the 2000s but that stopped, because our sound became stagnant.
That's why Beat King (RIP) had to fuq with Dallas and Prairie View heavy so he could get his shit played. Travis Scott and Megan blew up, but they weren't molded in the same way as Houston artists that predated them and they like Beat King didn't come up under a Houston rapper that predated them. I actually think Travis, Meg, and even Beyonce and Kelly didn't have a small market mentality that a lot of Houston artists have.
It’s also the fact houston has a competitive spirit amongst each other and not a team working spirit amongst each other
I’ve seen some of the greatest talent that never got that opportunity before the Kirko bangs and Marcus manchild era
And those guys were mid , and not talented.
We have seen groups like A$AP take the S.U.C. blueprint and houston culture and got recognized in mainstream for that approach.
Houston has a lot of evolving to do music wise.
Huh? Prairie View is Houston. BestKing was in Houston strip clubs and on Houston songs....Houston doesn't have a rap scene because they realized they make more independently, but that clashing ain't no different than anywhere else
@@courtenayblair2279 I hardly hear the older rappers get on songs with the new up and coming artist .. before the OT MEXICAN and SAUCE WALKER era
We are way behind from Atlanta on unity. people in Atlanta link up and work.
@713_Stackz and atl rappers kill each other...TI had beef with Luda & Shorty Lo, Thug had issues with RHQ, Gunna and Lucci etc. you looking at Houston with a telescope and at atl with eyeglasses. Houston ain't unique as far as rap unity goes, you just up close to it
And Slim had the KOTH series, Pokey, Paul Wall and Hawk would work with anybody. You hardly hear older rapper at all.
I agree Houston support Atlanta music like a mf
Legendary 💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💯
I understand his perspective BUT, the blessing in that is, if you had the rockstar lifestyle you probably would not want it. Quiet money is actually the best money!
Exactly
What hes talking about is this....regardless of how big snoop became...how big would nate doggs legacy be if ALL HE DID WAS SING FOR LA OR LONG BEACH ARTIST ....i feel him...he is the rawest since nate

Whose trying to go to Houston to build a rap career?
@Longztx bunch of people have
@MarcelO-o8d only those from smaller cities. If you want to get on building a rap t would go to ATL, New York, or Cali

@@WHO-DAT-GUY Shouldn't be no hate as he didn't say anything derogatory.
I agree, but these Houston podcasters get upset when he says the truth.
@WHO-DAT-GUY Oh I see....💯💪🏾
@@WHO-DAT-GUYI agree with he said but i just don’t agree with the Houston don’t have a rap scene part. I understand where he’s coming from though.
He spoke straight facts. People come here to turn up and get paid but never has anyone came here looking to get on rap wise. We’re independent asf

I grew up listening to Zro but as I got older I realized it was like gas being poured on my depression and loneliness. I started leaning off of it.
When he wasn't getting paid the first 8-10 years of his career he was bitter about not getting paid. Now he's worth millions of dollars with an extremely loyal cult following and he starting to sound bitter about not getting the recognition and big features.
Z-Ro deserve it
He made better music when he wasn't getting paid. His music is watered down. One can even argue that z ro went Comercial
@@higherheights3105Most artist make their best music in the beginning of their careers 🤷🏾♂️
Facts that's what I'm getting been jamming Zro since 98 and he done had his share of ups and downs & for some reason this bipolar shit be getting on my nerves Texas has a big music scene but he want get his head out the ass it's like dude can't get out his own way Big Court asked some direct questions

Iam not getting future iam getting that Ro or slim album . One thang about a Htown rapper they won’t let you down. Shame on Houston fans if they don’t appreciate the real! Houston rappers are the most talented to me and it’s even getting better with some of the new rappers and they all have versatility 🤷🏽♂️🌎

Zro a goat.
Rother has always been certified.
Crazy to say because it's true

Zero !what up playa!!!
20-25 years ago they had the support
25 lighters stay on repeat love him
Me being a Texas native and a Port Arthur, Texas native (For those of you that don’t know, Port Arthur is a town about an hour and 23 mins outside of Houston. Also home of UGK) I disagree with him on the “Houston don’t have a rap scene” part. Houston been having a rap scene since the 80s.
You mean 90 miles away
@@TeeTockThat Way
Houston only have a rap scene to those of us from the Golden Triangle and small cities such as ours. None of the inspired rappers in bigger cities are trying to travel to Houston to do music.
@@LongztxI live in Houston in they be a lot of concert they don't promote good they be having a lot of shows at the dynamo stadium NRG stadium and clubs. The new Houston rappers scene just fell off because they not releasing any thing jamming or classic
@Chris-v3f3o I've seen more People from Chicago blow up than from Houston also Love and Hip Hop didn't even get good ratings in Houston. The Rap scene is dry there there's not even a popular recording studio out there and Rap A Lot is not getting their artists on the Billboards
I just caught that is Courts daughter on the interview..Dain she look just like him.The genes is a mf..

I love Zro but really Houston don’t have a music scene? Shut the front door dude u come from the land of the great so be grateful the Houston sound has become the Texas sound and is mimicked on every coast
@@guero-pi2qj did what he said go all the way over your head? Yeah Houston got a sound and a huge amount of fans. He is saying corporate wise, and as far as rappers coming to Houston for music things. He had a good ass point.
@ I kno man n I get it im not a rapper but if I was I’d be more than happy to work with all the people he named. N I know far as corporate we ain’t got much but considering wut it seemed like 30 years ago you would think we’ve came along way I just think that the fact that we don’t need any one else we would be more proud
Only Southside goofies say this dumb shit 😂
He just speaking on current artist , it really ain't none. Dallas got more than Houston that's Poppin....for whatever reason
How he expect to get those big features when he's unapproachable and doesn't like to be around people. I rock with Zro but he still sounds negative and bitter
To be real ro was harder face em was 2pac influenced mainly. Ro did his own thing
Z-ro was never harder than MR.MR.SCARFACE
@ you know that’s where the envy came from
Crack on back i still jam today
Z-Ro should get more attention then he got
I feel zro, lyrically and producer wise he can run with the best to ever do...but he never got that noteriety of the so called greats

That's on him he making his own bed in this industry Cee-Lo on his new album plus they supposedly in works on a joint album
Texas so big u dont have to support and team up with eachother
If Z-Ro feel like that why he not asking for features oh I forgot his moniker is 1Deep
