Sco had to bring it cuz I know he was feeling the heat from Marcus. Pure fire on guitar and vocals. Scary talent...how old is he? Scofield met the challenge tho. Mucho guitar chops on display that night.

Oh my God in heaven, I cannot get over the sheer devastation that Scofield achieved with his solo here. I mean, the stage was just wrecked, in a sense, by the time his solo ended. While both Krasno and King are very fine players, Scofield obviously decided that this was the time and place for him to lay down one of the most intense, musical, and emotionally wrenching electric blues guitar solos that I've ever heard and/or witnessed. What sets Scofield apart from just about any guitarist EVER is that he marries the harmonic sophistication and melodic ingenuity of a absolutely world class jazz musician with the vocabulary and string bending/vibrato of a master Chicago style blue guitarist. What a thing to behold!

Man, you said it! Your comment got me to really understand the dynamics of what was going on, all fine players for sure. I have the Jaco Pastorius DVD and to see John play live with Jaco is another treasure.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard this kind of bending before. Not from BB King, not even from Stevie Ray. The feel in those bends gave me goosebumps after goosebumps. What a beast Scofield is. To come after that Marcus King solo and be even more intense… insane. Even more impressive is how he gives us just enough jazz to make it sound sophisticated but no so much that it would kill the blues. I’m flabbergasted. One of the best solos I’ve ever heard.

Was searching versions and found this in D. How great to see these 3 soloists play in their own styles and riffs. They’re all fantastic. Jon takes his time and I like that, then he burns, as if conversational. Super upload, thx so very much!

Also, great camerawork to see the fingerboard of guitars during the solos. It’s not constant of course, but enough to get the juices running and get you to reach for that SG, 335 or whichever guitar you have handy. 4 choruses of John’s solo will definitely get you there.

Ah man thanks for posting this. I was at this Bowlive show and it was definitely one of my favorite Soulive/Bowlive shows that I've ever seen. The whole show was intense! If I remember correctly..Marcus was actually scheduled to play the next night with that night's guest..the one and only Goat George Porter Jr who I never miss. But I guess Marcus was in town early and they had him sit in on the Sco night as well. I could be wrong but I'm Pretty sure I'm remembering this right. This was some of the most inspired playing I ever saw Sco and Marcus play!! 🔥🎸💯🔥

I was also at this show, and I was blown away by Marcus! I had never heard of him. His stage energy and voice were electric, but what really floored me was that he was able to hold his own and slay next to Kras and Sco, two of my favorite guitarists and absolute monsters. Needless to say I have been a fan of King since

@@yoyocatdogma I think that was my first time seeing him too. I knew about him already and knew I'd be seeing him the night after this show..but having him with Sco and Kraz was amazing. Marcus is the real deal.. he's so smokin in his solos. It's ridiculous. It was insane seeing him with George the next night as well. There's some awesome younger gtr players who are badass. Billy Strings is unbelievable. Taz is great. A bunch more

You are correct Mike! Marcus sat in a night early with Sco. Due to this time in quarantine, I am finally able to catch up on some of the gems i've archived 2 -3 years ago. Currently im working on this entire set with Scofield and others from the same time frame! Stay tuned!
