      I will echo Parick's sentiment, you really should. I am a loyal Goulet Pen Co customer. I did purchase MontBlanc Lavender Purple on the recommendation of Matt Armstrong (PenHabit) and it is my favorite purple. Granted, I have not tried all others, but working on it. Got a GPC shipment today and looking at Noodler's Socrates which appears to be the same. If I can get the same type of ink from one place, that is my preference. Write On!

    I love Brilliant Brown.... It's one of my favorite daily writing inks. It gives a really nice older feel on my "older" looking paper. The more sepia colored things. Then it ages to this glorious coppery color.

  • @billmcyrus
    @billmcyrus 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Admittedly the Pelikan Brilliant Brown isn't the most exciting brown out there but it has done well for me. It does tend to pop a little more out of finer nibs, oddly, and my M205 just loves to dance with it. The Dunkelgrun is my daily work ink though. I'm not sure how many people prefer that one either but I keep two or three pens inked with it constantly.

      I've heard that description used for all of my life ( 69+ years ) and it means "overpowering" or "In-your-face" type of shirt ( Hawaiian for example), custom automobile color ( Florescent Lime Green ), etc. I picked up on what he meant right away. Maybe it's a "Southern" thing. Just one more thing yankees don't understand. ROFLM*O. Well, I would roll on the floor laughing, but I probably couldn't get up again without some help. Diamine Umber is an ink I just recently sampled and it is fantastic for readback. I think when looking at a full page further away, it just looks like some dark gray to black ink. But close-up it's a deep green which makes it really interesting. Shades beautifully too.

    My most used ink is one that i havent heard anyone ever talk about- Diamine Evergreen. I love this ink so much, because in my fine metro it looks almost black, but its just interesting enough to not be boring, but still boring enough to be able to be used 'professionally' (I'm in school and use it for tests and written assignments)

    I haven't explored inks so much, but the one I'm most fond of is the black Sailor Jentle Ink. It dries quickly (good for us lefties) but still has a very rich and solid black that flows rly nice even for my finer nibs. I use fountain pens for drawing & sketching usually with watercolor washes over them. So, I need waterproof inks. I have two different blacks on order but would love a video on waterproof inks especially in neutral like grey or brown and less brilliant colors like the verdegris you mentioned in this video. Second question is if you skip to Mexico where I am now living. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience of fountain pens & inks.

  • @Vermiliontea

    I think the really underrated inks are the old, classic acid inks: Parker Quink, Montblanc, Pelican 4001. The modern fountain pen clientele don't like them much. Possibly because they feel they're boring, no fancy colors, no shading, because they ruin pens with aluminum, brass, steel springs or celluloid parts. But as working inks they outclass most modern fashion inks. They don't fade much over time or in light. Their flow and behavior on paper, feathering, bleedthrough, is pretty much as good as it comes, even on poor paper. They can also be very low on pen maintenance. I have personally just kept feeding Parker Quink into daily working pens for over 30 years, without dismantling, washing out or cleaning them even once. No problems (except that when I finally did dismantle them, I had to be very careful because everything was pretty stuck).
    Today there are a few better inks. I grant that. One problem with acid inks is that using water in the pen will make solid deposits (just fill up with more ink, even if it has dried out). Noodler's Black and Noodler's 54'th Massachusetts write as well, are Ph neutral, are even more fade resistant and are waterproof on paper while also always dissolving with just water in the pen. IMO, the two best working inks in the world. But they're very boring too.
    If you want a benign and safe ink you can't go wrong with 'Rohrer & Klingner'. All of their inks I have tested flow and write very well, possess a fair amount of lightfastness and fade resistance (I have the impression R&K pay attention to this as a brand), and easily wash out with just lukewarm water. They're not waterproof though, of course.

  • @alextaplin7354

    I don't hear much about Diamine Steel blue or Coral but they are two of my favourite inks.
    I want to see an episode on most over rated inks, in my opinion Noodler's Apache sunset is one of the most overrated, it often performs badly for me and there is nothing really special about the colour. I had some Apache sunset in my Konrad and used it on Rhodia paper and there was not very much shading at all except for some dark spots in the middle where the ink looked like it was dirty. On the other hand I get loads of good shading and colour shifting with Diamine Ancient copper and Steel blue.
    I would also like to mention how Baystate blue is extremely overrated by some and extremely underrated by others, I like the colour and have never had performance or staining issues but it is nowhere near is bright as many reviewers say it is.

    One of the main reasons for writing with fountain pens is the variety of inks - primarily the colors, but also the levels of wetness and shading. Ball point, roller ball, gel pens can't match these qualities.
