*Add siptic powder (like the stick used to stop shaving nicks) or sugar to your dog's pack. Both will stop heavy bleeding if applied generously and neither one will contaminate the blood stream enough to do the dog any damage.*
*Just in case he gets tangled up with a bear or a wildcat ... I carry a tourniquet I got from my vet. May you be blessed and that never happen.*
*I also pack tweezers, both the fine point and the wide point, as well as longer forceps ... just in case I need to dig a fox tail out of an ear or a nostril. Or, in the case of my dog ... six or seven foxtails from between his toes that burrowed into his foot.*
*Super Glue, Dermabond or a small stitch kit along with some antibacterial gel is always good. And from experience, these items can make the difference between cancelling your camping trip early ... or staying the full length of time.*
*Just like we get upset stomachs when our diet or water supply suddenly changes ... animals end up with the same conditions. So I get a few things that might help in that transition from my vet as well. She's really cool and usually has samples she gives me for free. They are small, lightweight and usually single dosage packaging.*
*Have fun out there. Stay aware. Stay alive.*

Nice load out. Ad a couple tubes of crazy glue. It hurts to use it to close wounds but in an extreme emergency it can be a life saver. I carry it in my own kit also. Cool pup😊

Use the blue glue, not super glue. Bit more money, but doesn't crust and burn as much. www.amazon.com/dp/B004C12Q46/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_OsheGbNMVE9K5

Great video. Nothing wrong with being over prepared. Better be safe than sorry. I didn't think to add in a maxi pad, but it makes sense. I've seen people use them for horse leg injuries that weren't very deep, mixed with vet wrap. Works great. Thanks for the video.

Your Aussie is adorable. At least he can carry his own pack. My Yorkie is 5 pounds, so I'll be carrying it along with my own gear. I'm here to see what others pack in their bug out dog bags. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing 🙏🏼 I’m about to put an emergency kit together for my almost 9 month old pup, who ate a leather leash a few days ago… 🤦🏻‍♂️

You said he is large enough to carry if he got really hurt. How would you do that if you were say 50km in the backcountry? Do you have a sling made for carrying him like a backpack? I have seen these and considering one. I can treat minor things but having to get a 55 lbs dog out of the backcountry is a big concern of mine. The only thing I may add or that I carry is Benadryl for humans which is fine for dogs at a different dosage.

Great video! I just started hiking in the notch with my dog! Yours is so cute! Do you have any recommendations for short day hikes in the Franconia area? I've heard that some of the NH state parks had rules against bringing dogs on the trails. We're a little new to the hiking scene up here!

HEY EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!! I just wanna chime in and give a warning I almost learned the hard way.
One time I took my dog on just a long a hike out in the country and I was going to do a little fishing.
It was hot, and my dog also likes to dip into the water.
There is a large aqua duct canal that has fairly steep sides and it’s deep, fast moving.
I was letting her dip just up high along the side but she started pulling to get deeper, the way she was twisting around and once her neck was wet, and the collar, it started coming off her dang head.
She’s never swam before that time, so with the canal currents and not knowing if she would swim, now her slipping deeper I just climbed half in and grabbed her by the scruff and pulled her stubborn ass out.
I normally only use the harness when we hike, especially mountains and such.
So just please make sure your dogs collar is not too tight but won’t slip of if they get stubborn or it gets wet.
If your on cliff sides, or around other hazards, make certain the links, the clasps, the links on the leash, everything is super solid.
    Harness is always recommended.
It just takes that one slip up to lose your pup.
They are worth the extra solid gear.

Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I often see people struggling down the trail, mostly for two reasons. They are out of shape and the packed to much crap. I have hiked a lot with my dog. We hiked the Long Trail in Vermont together, 273 miles. I did bring some first aid for my dog but let’s be honest if your dog has a run in with a bear, it’s not going well. My dog carry,s two days of food and DCF bowl, her snacks and leash. I carry everything else. I often carry her pack too. She did not ask to go backpacking. I know when she is getting tired and we call it a day if take very long breaks. I do bring the product that stops bleeding, I forgot the name and mushers cream. Her paws love it.
