It's not that enthusiasts hate family coasters, it's just that we feel there's an oversaturation in the family coaster market. I mean, as much as Big Bear Mountian looks fun, was it really necessary for Dollywood, the park that just opened FireChaser Express and Dragon Flyer, to get yet ANOTHER family coaster? The same goes for Canadas Wonderland. You got Thunder Run, you got Silver Streak, you got Ghoster Coaster...Instead of replacing Flight Deck and Time Warp with a B&M Invert and Flyer, they get ANOTHER family coaster that they honestly don't need. It gets to a point where there really is an overabundance of family coasters and not enough mid-tier thrill coasters for kids and inexperienced enthusiasts to take the next step. Say what you will about Iron Dragon and Corkscrew, but they're the perfect example of non-extreme, no frills thrill coasters that are perfect for people who have graduated from Woodstock's Express and Cedar Creek Mine Ride, but are still a little too afraid to ride Magnum, Millie, Maverick, or Vengeance.

I like this addition a lot. You need areas like this in parks, it can't all be for coaster enthusiasts. And hey, coaster enthusiasts will probably ride the new wild mouse anyway. Cedar Point needed a family coaster and now they're getting one!

Over the last couple years, I think CP has been trying to diversify away from just a coaster park, by adding and improving restaurants, improving the appearance of the areas, and adding more family rides. I think that’s great! It’s what differentiates CP from places like Magic Mountain. Sure, that park has a great collection of extreme coasters, but the food isn’t very good and it looks pretty ugly. Cedar Point is a much better overall experience!

This new area is going to be really nice! Not the biggest fan of wild mouses, especially the spinning variety, but I know Cedar Point likes to make all of their coasters special in some way, either it be a cool location, breaking a record, or just something about it, like Gemini's racing feature, Maverick's awesome layout and Gatekeeper's Keyhole Zero-G Roll

  • @camdenhochgesang6554

The only reason it disappoints me personally is that Wicket Twister was my guilty pleasure. Massively underrated coaster. Though I think this area will be an improvement for most, I’d rather they have kept WT.
I could see the possibility of future plans being to remove the coliseum and planet snoopy, revamp Kiddie Kingdom, and put a twister GCI in the boardwalk section with that opened space. Planet Snoopy is forgotten and always dead. With a revamped Kiddie Kingdom, I could see them doing away with it. The boardwalk section might liven up Planet Snoopy though so who knows.

Should simplify visits for families with very young kids, and I wouldn't be surprised if Wild Mouse gets a lot of kids excited about riding Gatekeeper or Valravn. Hoping CP expands on the nostalgia investment by putting Gravity Group EPT on Blue Streak for its 60th anniversary!

I think this is the best thing they could have done. This part of the park and the parks family coasters was very lacking. You need family coasters to get younger kids interested in roller coasters. I think the next thing they should do is get rid of corckscrew and use that space along with the ride that’s being moved to create a tril coaster that doesn’t overshadow Steel Vengence

You would think that Cedar Creek Mine Ride and Iron Dragon are family coasters, but inexplicably neither of them has a 42" height requirement - so Wild Mouse will at least start to fill that gap (even if it requires an accompanying adult)...but I still think they should recertify Mine Ride and Iron Dragon (and maybe Blue Streak) at 42"

Solid idea, nothing risky about it, and something to the make park that little bit more enjoyable.

I think this entire area will be a great fit for the park, but the only thing I don't like about it is that Giant Wheel is blocking the view you get of the grand pavilion from the midway. Maybe if they took out kiddie kingdom and moved the giant wheel somewhere else in the park, CP could make that land a whole new beautiful pathway to the grand pavilion, showing the history of the park on plaques kind of like what KI did for its 50th.

Some people need to calm down, like not every coaster has to be bigger and badder than the previous one, if that was the case we would have 1000 ft roller coasters and that’s not realistic. Like sure this might not be the biggest addition but it’s a fun addition that’s needed in the park. I always say that I personally don’t care as long as it’s fun and is something the park needs. I also have a feeling that a bigger coaster will be coming soon like 2024-2025 or so, but we’ll have to wait and see. And this addition is good cause that area of the park REALLY needed and update, it felt so dead and empty imo, so doing this will help to give that area of the park that fun and alive feel that is needed. And personally I think they should take out cedar creek mine ride and add a good gci in that plot of land, CCMR really doesn’t get a line and that’s a perfect plot of land for a gci.

It's a fantastic fit. Cedar Point is fundamentally a boardwalk park (though certainly on a very large scale.) I like that the park is embracing that identity more. It doesn't need to be a theme park but it's really helpful when parks really embrace their aesthetic.
Also, wild mouse coasters are underrated and always a fun addition, even if they aren't necessarily elite coasters.

I like everything about it, except for a park like Cedar Point the wild mouse should have been like twice the size with some type of dual station loading system in order to double the capacity. The wild mouse at Knotts Berry Farm's line is painfully slow and I think this just leads to frustration for guests when you wait so long for a ride and then it's so short.

  • @DanTheCaptain

This is think is the best thing to happen to Cedar Point in a while. The boardwalk and beach front restaurant looks amazing and is going to be a great price of heritage, that will surely liven up that area of the park. It will also give it some character. In terms of why they chose to go with a family coaster, as you and other have said, family coasters need to exist as well. We enthusiasts aren’t not the majority. Families are. Especially after this whole pandemic, we have a bunch of families coming out in droves trying to entertain their little gremlins. And I’m pretty sure some of those families don’t have the funds or energy (despite their wishes) to go all the way to Disney, so they go to the next best thing (the better thing imo).

Family coasters is a big issue in a lot of Cedar Fair parks, but I'm not sure a ride like this truly addresses the issue for some of them - even if I do think this wild Mouse is a solid addition to CP.. One area where Seaworld and Herschend aeating CF's lunch is in the high-end Family Coaster experience. As a single Example, King's Dominion is getting beat up by both BGW in the east (Verbolten) and Dollywood to the West (Firechaser Express, Dragonflier, and now Big Bear Mountain) and have.... well, some pretty mediocre offerings in return. Reptilian, Backlot and Ricochet are OK, but don't hold a candle to those others (with the possible exception of Dragonflier.)
I feel like CF really needs to invest in top-class Family attractions for most of their parks. CP is a bit of an anomaly, since it is a true destination park for thrill-seekers, but the rest of the chain could really use some love in that department.

Same with SeaWorld San Diego. They already have Manta, and now they're building an Intamin family multi-launch coaster

yeah I do too. I also have heard that people think moving some of those flat rides might mean they are removing corkscrew which would give a fairly big plot of land.

As of today I can now officially say that Cedar Fair has the second best theme park food behind Disney. And I’m not joking. The food offerings that I had at Kings Dominion and Kings Island were some of the best food I have ever had in my entire life especially the food at Kings Island and what they did with the limited edition 50th anniversary and now Cedar point is Falling Up by adding several new restaurants and they all look amazing. Also with the park atmosphere it kind of feels like you’re at a Disney park because they’re putting shows that are on par with Disney like for example the most Disney feeling Park in the chain is Kings Island with their firework show their entertainment and their food but Cedar point is kind of feeling like that and hotel breakers looks exactly identical to the grand Floridian Resort. So both of the 2 Ohio Cedar Fair parks kind of feel like Disney World but with thrilling roller coasters And not as good of theming.

While it’s good to dream what there next big thrill coaster be. People have to realize Cp has to think about the family who walk threw the gates every operational day. As there not as much for them to do

I kinda think they can shoehorn RailBlazer in where Matterhorn and Scrambler currently are, if they loose the bathrooms, juice stand and some trees.

but they'll probably add a new restaurant there

The renovation looks like it will be a nice refresh. I don’t mind the park getting a new family coaster. Neither a spinning coaster nor a wild mouse (and most certainly not a spinning wild mouse) was what think was the best family coaster option available. I will give the coaster a fair chance and give it a try.
But, I absolutely HATE the idea of the grand pavilion. Renovate the existing food areas if you’re trying to change the food scene (which needs help) and use the entire Wicked Twister plot to build a family coaster that can handle Cedar Point’s attendance.

We agree with a lot of what you said. We believe this is a great addition too the park. Remember they are now building for everyone too enjoy the park and it includes families who are making it a weekly destination and non roller coaster folks. There gourmet type restaurants bring in money to the park. Remember there in business too make money 💰 and that’s what there marketing surveys are telling them. So everybody needs too enjoy A park like no other.

Railblazer from California's great america is likely as well because it fits the plot of land perfectly and Cedar Point doesn't have an RMC single rail yet.

I think This is a wonderful thing yes that side of the park needed a fresh look in it looks a amazing in I wasn’t wanting to ride this but I remember going on wild cat it was so much fun in I been trying it for sure in it really exciting that they are being things from the past renaming some rides in some people where saying that they are turning into Disney World I’m like they are not turning into Disney word understand why cedar point was to be a resort they want there Guest to be happy at there hotels in be near the park cedar always had hotels for families to choose from in my opinion they have plenty of hotels for all different budgets !

I can't say I was not a teensy bit disappointed when I heard CP is getting a Wild Mouse. But hearing the history behind it and that it will have a free-form/custom layout does make it more of a positive than I originally thought. If they reopen TTD next season my delicate thoosie heart will be satisfied 😌 I'm quite excited about the Grand Pavillion, those 2nd floor patios look amazing and I can't wait to see what kind of restaurant they put in there! Super curious about your thoughts on the Corkscrew area and what could be happening there 🤔 Maybe they will revamp the TTD midway with new shops/flat rides, I can't imagine they would get rid of corkscrew.

I like that they did this but what I think they should do next is build a gravity group wooden coaster in the style of voyage that turns to the right over the beach and then runs along the shore and then maybe has a twister section over the water that’s near the parking lot

    @54t4meda5 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You haven't talked about TTD, in the announcment, they said that the wild mouse will be their 18th roller coaster, that means they will not tear down dragster. Great news!

Complaining about a wild mouse goes to show how much cedar point has spoiled us over the years. At first I wasn’t happy about this new addition but it’s actually grown on me over time and from a business perspective I completely understand.

I'm okay with the addition/revamp of that area, but I find it interesting that they're leaving the wheel, as it basically blocks the view of the front of the Grand Pavilion.

This is definitely more of a normal spinning coaster than a wild mouse but still having hairpin sections, a lot like Pandemonium. Kinda interesting to name it wild mouse though when it's not actually a wild mouse like every other wild mouse named coaster out there.
