I feel like the no call in the Rams, Saints NFC Championship, and The Fail Mary are one of those rare occasions where you can blame the refs for a loss.
Fail mary definitely, but the rams saints could've gone another way. What if they fumbled while running the clock out and the rams went on and won? You could go on about what ifs forever with that game. The Fail mary on the other hand was THE last play so you can say on that
This may be a stupid idea but what if we gave coaches 2 black flags per half incase they see a missed call, throwing the black flag would force the ref to review the play... I know there's a challenge flag but we need a totally separate flag for no calls
My frequent frustration with questionable officiating calls has been a major contributor to my increasing apathy towards watching pro sports in any league. I used to be glued to the TV in years past. Of course, improvements in technology have helped identify boo-boos and rigorous training regimes have pushed the playing boundaries to the limits of the rules as well.
The one call I hate isn't necessarily one moment or game, but a specific call/penalty: Roughing the Passer. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of targeting or cheap shots on defenseless QBs. However, after the bounty scandal and a few high profile QB injuries (a Tom Brady knee, BountyGate and Favre, Vikings/Packers 2017 when Barr fell on Rodgers, etc.), the refs now call Roughing the Passer for every damn hit. Hell, outside linebackers with sack lists a mile long became some of the most penalized players on the field because just touching the QB could be 15 yards for doing what they had been doing since the forward pass was allowed. The rule used to be unnecessary roughness or hitting a QB who didn't have the ball at all. Now, if you push a QB too much, even if they have the ball and don't fall down, you can get called. Just put them in red shirts all the time so everyone knows not to hit them before the line of scrimmage. Just as bad is that they basically did the same thing for receivers catching the ball, but screw RBs. If a receiver gets hit a little too hard while catching the ball, its a penalty, but if you powerbomb a RB and then sit on them, no call. Since you can't sack QBs or hit receivers too hard, but can absolutely destroy a RB, the running game is basically useless compared to passing, since sacks and hard tackles on perennial QBs and receivers could gain you 15 yards, while your RB is going to be hobbled in 3-6 years anyway.
This isn't because the refs are calling it. This is a fault with the NFL telling them to call Roughing more and more. All of this goes back to the NFL, not the refs. The refs are only doing what they are told to do.
Agreed!! My favorite one is where the Chief's D-lineman actually stripped the QB of the ball and then fell on top of the QB. The D-lineman even braced himself and didn't put the full weight on him. Best part.....since the Chief's player had the ball, it was technically the QB who "tackled" the Chief's player. Yes, the Chief's got a roughing the passer penalty in favor of a person who didn't have the ball (ergo not the passer) and actually is the one who technically tackled (downed) the Chief's player. Just crazy

That is true, I noticed that error as well. However, there’s a more important point to be made there. Defensive holding is only a foul if it occurs 5+ yards beyond the line of scrimmage. And neither of the two points in that route where people who defended the call say Bradberry was holding are beyond 5 yards. The angle they showed in the replays where they zoom in on Bradberry’s hand doesn’t make it obvious, but if you watch the all 22 angle you’ll see pretty clearly that at that point in the route they are still 2-3 yards short of being 5 yards past the line of scrimmage. And even more importantly than that, let’s just be honest, it had no effect on the outcome of that play and should not have decided the outcome of that game. It completely ruined what would have been one of if not the single greatest Super Bowl of all time. One official threw the only defensive holding call of the entire game, breaking with the precedent he had set throughout the game of letting the receivers and corners play, and at the only possible time where he could throw a flag that would guarantee the Chiefs a win, he threw it. That is beyond suspicious to me. Someone should be investigating that son of a bitch to see if any of his friends just so happened to be betting on the game or something, because there’s no rational explanation for his behavior other than malice or stupidity. He should be fired.

2:00 "What kind of reform would you like to see..." In the XFL, this play would have been reviewed by the offsite review ref and overturned. What I would like to see is a combination of the XFL and USFL rules for reviews: 1- *ANYTHING* can be requested for review. (XFL) 2- You get one review for free, right or wrong. (USFL) 3- After the first review, if you request a review, and the call stands or is confirmed, the team that calls for the review gets a delay of game penalty. (USFL) 4- inside the two minute warning of both halves, all reviews are booth reviews, but can be *anything.* (Both for the timing, XFL for the "anything") 5- Booth reviews can be initiated without a challenge at the discretion of the booth reviewers. No penalties are incurred for booth initiated reviews. (Both) This rule set would have definitely gotten the call in Rams-Saints overturned, the D.P.I. called (at the least) and gave Saints a new set of downs on the spot, which would have been 1st and goal from the two. I'm not a Rams or Saints fan, but that call is just plain wrong!

I will never get over to this day. When the steelers played the patriots in 2017, and the steelers scored that touchdown, Jesse James. The tight end caught that ball and made a football move and scored that touchdown.
40 years experience as an official (basketball + volleyball). The NFL officials are so horrible, I can't watch football games. Already have high blood pressure, and their incompetence makes my blood boil.
The Chiefs-Eagles call: You showed the latter part of the play, AFTER the actual grab that held Smith-Shuster up. Like the official in the booth said, "If you could see the FIRST PART of the play, you will clearly see the hold." He was cut off after that, and Greg Olsen Only was heard thereafter to villainize the referee. One step was enough to catch that pass, consider where the ball was thrown, S-Shuster's angle and height to reach up and catch the pass. Two TD's by Kansas City, UNTOUCHED BY 10-15 yards of that vaunted Eagles defense, you'd think would make us yell about the holding call a bit less loudly, and less ignorantly. You would think.
The reason it's so upsetting is that if you watch the game film, both teams were grabbing jerseys and doing little holding plays ALL game long, and it was only called at the end. I would be fine with the ending if it was consistent. But it wasn't.
I personally think that the amount of contact would not have made a difference in the slightest. The ball was so overthrown that no way there was a chance that juju could have scored. Our team should have done better but that call killed us
Refs have been really effecting the outcome of games since fantasy football got popular. There’s a lot of money in fantasy sports and since it got popular offenses seem to get bailed out constantly. Before fantasy football defensive holding was almost unheard of but now it’s called all the time especially on 3rd downs that aren’t converted when a big name like Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady are involved. Fantasy football has hurt the real game and I see it as an abomination!
I love that the Chiefs Eagles game was admitted as holding by all involved INCLUDING THE PERSON IN THIS VIDEO and yet people are mad that rules are in place and we’re followed… idc how much time is on the clock, make the correct calls and you’re good with me. Plus the Chiefs had a TD taken from them in that game when a fumble was ruled an incompletion and even despite that they still won. Mahomes never through an unintentional incompletion in the second half of the SB… the Eagles top tier defense was literally destroyed by Mahomes and Reid. They stopped NOTHING. That’s why they lost. Own up to it and go back to training.
How about the catch made by Devontae smith during the Eagles drive at the end of the first half? He caught the ball in bounds on the sideline. It was clearly a catch, the announcers said it was a catch. Yet it was ruled in complete. So instead of getting a new set of downs inside the ten the Eagles had to settle for a field goal. Refs weren’t the sole reason the Eagles lost, but they were a key reason.
@adamminichino5731 pretty darn clear in my opinion that when he finally secured the catch he only got one foot down inbounds...he bobbled the ball the first 2 steps then gained clear possession but only managed to get one foot down inbounds. Good Call and #Chiefskingdom
What about the BS call against the Bengals to gift the Rams the Super Bowl? That's two in a row. Odd how this is happening now that the league is in bed with gambling.
Oh boy did you guys mess up the Chiefs holding call portion of this video. It wasn't until later in the game (might have been after it!) when they showed the ACTUAL video of the hold. It wasn't what you showed (and what they kept showing after the play). It actually took place in the same play before that, much closer to the line of scrimmage. A clear hold pulling back of the jersey. That's why the defender admitted it and expected the call. Watch it again - definitely enough to keep JuJu from making the catch.
@@sauced9456 The game had an actual amazing finish and if the defender comes out and says "Ya, it was a hold" then that should be that. If the "eagles and America" got robbed, its only bc you didn't wan't the chiefs to win the game.
Some of the worst calls off the top of my head: 2018 NFCCG of course is prolly #1 and prolly always will be #1. Fail Mary Tuck Rule Dez Bryant's Catch Any Lions game Myles Jack AND Jesse James' Catch in the same season (both benefitting NE)
Two things. First and foremost, Dez caught it. Second, you were off about who agreed in the Chiefs/Eagles Super Bowl call. There’s quite a lot of people out there who loved the call (myself included admittedly) specifically because we don’t want to see Philly football have anything good come their way 😂
On that KC vs PHL play, if you are going to try to claim the foul was "light", at least don't be a pansy and withhold the clip that shows the shirt of the receiver being pulled about a foot away from his body while trying changing directions. Without the hold, the defender is beat like a red headed step child and it is very likely an east TD. That play was an example of outstanding officiating, not bad officiating.
More like when the NFL has ruined the NFL by not investing properly in the officials. This all stems back to the NFL. If they wanted the best officials, they would pay more for them.
I love when after the refs miss a horrible call and after the game is long over, they wanna come out and admit they messed up or got the call wrong. Like okay, but it doesn't change the outcome. The game is over and you made a shit call.
I think when Tate got the ball for the td he stripped it mid air and the ref that said touchdown he saw him with the ball and the ref that signaled touchback he called to early
Here 06:00, I understand the need to blame refs in a close game. It was a close call, agreed. Everyone forgets it was 3rd down, well within FG range (15yd line), and a 5 yard penalty. Not even remotely changing it would've still been a field goal. When there are close penaltie in close games, it doesn't mean the other team gets points automatically or guarantees they would've scored, or worst of all the "momentum changed". In games there are missed calls, questionalble calls, bad calls. If you study the film, it balances out.
Which one the no call facemask that would have given Rams 1st and goal or the no call pi? The way I see it the overtime gave both teams a fair shot. What about that dumb fan with the whistle?
I love the shot they always show of the Eagles - KC 'controversial' call. there is another angle that shows Juju's jersey stretched out about 3 feet in the clutch of Bradberry. But they don't want to show that one.
I agree, though I think it's more "controversial" because they didn't really call it all night except for the one instance when the game was on the line. I get it but it was kind of a shitty way to end a great game.
Super Bowl game the Kansas City Chiefs v the Philadelphia eagles referee should have been calling that holding call a long time ago. Yes he was holding and he had been holding through the whole game. And you Philadelphia fans can whine and cry all you want to just have been holding and he said he was holding through the whole game. Disfigured and you all did so that he just got away with holding and causing the Chiefs a touchdown.
I said it then, I'll say it now. The Seahawks were correctly awarded the touchdown against the packers. I'm not a fan of either, but a simultaneous catch always goes to the receiver.
I remember seeing that 4th quarter cowboys vs packers game in Buffalo wild wings. I lived in Dallas at the time. Bro that plays was enraged during that play. And as a cowboys hater I knew they got cheated badly 😂
My ideas or suggestions: 1a. More transparency and consequences for refs making bad calls. The NBA has a 2 minute report after each game. Why shouldn't the NFL try it? 1b. Referee press confernces postgame, where they explain what they saw. 2. Fine refs for bad calls. Docked pay could be a motivator. 3. Allow teams to challenge bad calls, even if it is after the 2 minute warning Whether it's a black flag, an orange flag is regardless. It might make games longer, but getting the calls right is important.
They need to completely revamp their penalty and enforcement system. Many of the penalties result in anti-competitive outcomes such as roughing the passer and accidentally grabbing the face mask are automatic first downs. A better system would be something like in football where they give cards, so an egregious penalty could result in that player being kicked from the game, and maybe play 1 player down for the rest of the quarter or something. Food for thought
The biggest screw up by NFL officials BY A MILE is Bottlegate. They screwed Cleveland! Overturning a pkay after another play has happened goes directly against NFL rules. That's the only time something like that has ever happened.
Referees are full time employees now. FINE THEM especially for missed player safety calls. letting Mahomes play with broken helmet, Josh Allen horse caller, Trever Lawrence hit 10 feet out of bounds ect... Also anything personal foul or 15 yrd penalty should be reviewable by coach challenge (2 per game still) with others coming under 2 min in the half/game. NOT holding you could call that on EVERY Play. personal fouls (horse caller/Face mask/ roughing passer) Pass interference (need to be blatant and not bang bang) just to name a few.
Lesser known situation: Bills at Texans. Wild card weekend. 2019 season. Bills kick off. The returner, in the endzone, just flips the ball away after catching it. The Bills recover it in the endzone for a touchdown. Correctly called on the field. Cheesy touchdown for the Bills, but correct by rule. The returner was intending to "give himself up," but by rule, a player must go to the ground or take a knee. He did neither, so the referee on the field correctly ruled it a fumble that the Bills recovered. Then, a random person from the sideline in a black coat (probably a substitute official) sprinted onto the field and talked to the referee. After the discussion, the call was incorrectly changed to a touchback. Direct rule violation, not even a judgement call. Never seen an off field official come on the field like that before, much less to actually turn a correct call into a wrong call. The game went to OT so this directly effected the outcome of the game. Being the Texans and the Bills of that time, it was largely ignored, but it is hugely scandalous. Edit: Rule 7, Section 2, Article 1. when a runner declares himself down by: falling to the ground, or kneeling, and clearly making no immediate effort to advance.
If you're going to show SB LVII, show the actual penalty and know the rules. Bradberry grabbed JJSS's jersey and it was a full extension coming out of his break. What was shown was NOT the infraction. Also, it's DEFENSIVE HOLDING. It doesn't matter where the ball goes. It was the correct call and one that should always be called.
unbelievable those referees missed that blur ...

The hold affected juju in no way whatsoever and the throw was terrible
I personally think that the amount of contact would not have made a difference in the slightest. The ball was so overthrown that no way there was a chance that juju could have scored. Our team should have done better but that call killed us
@LucaDimperio-dq3yf love hearing your opinion on the biggest game in nfl and it was YOUR team that lost.
@@trentlee6823 fair enough
Refs have been really effecting the outcome of games since fantasy football got popular. There’s a lot of money in fantasy sports and since it got popular offenses seem to get bailed out constantly. Before fantasy football defensive holding was almost unheard of but now it’s called all the time especially on 3rd downs that aren’t converted when a big name like Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady are involved. Fantasy football has hurt the real game and I see it as an abomination!
I couldn't agree more. The sad fact is Fantasy in general are here to stay and Fantasy Football is the biggest one of all
I love that the Chiefs Eagles game was admitted as holding by all involved INCLUDING THE PERSON IN THIS VIDEO and yet people are mad that rules are in place and we’re followed… idc how much time is on the clock, make the correct calls and you’re good with me.
I am a high school ref, and I say, NO REFS OVER 50....they cant keep up
The Falcons game against the Bucs should be on this list
Yep it was bs
I was looking for this one
This is the NFL office in Secaucus, NJ should stop all play until they make a decision. Then let the call they make stand.
This vid should be longer than 11 minutes 🤣
What about the BS call against the Bengals to gift the Rams the Super Bowl? That's two in a row. Odd how this is happening now that the league is in bed with gambling.
The game has been ruined. Thx Roger
Eagles and America got robbed of a possible amazing finish
@@sauced9456 The game had an actual amazing finish and if the defender comes out and says "Ya, it was a hold" then that should be that. If the "eagles and America" got robbed, its only bc you didn't wan't the chiefs to win the game.
@@TVhomeshowsareALLfake Then the video a day later showed that it was in fact NOT holding. That was when they used the next-gen tech.
@@epicow_1973you got said video? It most definitely was a hold
Refs should only be there to control the game from getting blatantly out of hand!
Holding and pass interference are to different things, it doesn't matter if the ball is uncatchable with a holding call but nice try
Every single NFL game should be here
Some of the worst calls off the top of my head:
2018 NFCCG of course is prolly #1 and prolly always will be #1.
Fail Mary
Tuck Rule
Dez Bryant's Catch
Any Lions game
Myles Jack AND Jesse James' Catch in the same season (both benefitting NE)
Commanders Vs giants also ruined a rlly good game on 2 back to back horrible flags
Dez caught that ball, no question.
Nope. Didn’t have control going to the ground. Incomplete
It's the Calvin Johnson rule
Definitely didn’t survive the ground
Yes he did bozo
@@xthesaiyan7933so u are not allowed to reach for the end zone
When Myles Jack wasn’t down
We can all agree nfl refs and make and break seasons also I was not a saints fan or a rams fan but that was the worst call
More like when the NFL has ruined the NFL by not investing properly in the officials.
This all stems back to the NFL. If they wanted the best officials, they would pay more for them.
Wtf is with blurring out the actual play???
I love when after the refs miss a horrible call and after the game is long over, they wanna come out and admit they messed up or got the call wrong. Like okay, but it doesn't change the outcome. The game is over and you made a shit call.
A ton of steelers fans admit the Seahawks got screwed.
I genuinely have zero love for Dez or the cowboys. But, that was a catch. Even bobbled after. He maintained control before the ball hit the ground
I think when Tate got the ball for the td he stripped it mid air and the ref that said touchdown he saw him with the ball and the ref that signaled touchback he called to early
Perfect ref for thumbnail.
Lil did the Seahawks know the Steelers would beat them this year and made it to the playoffs not the Seahawks go Steelers
The nfl needs to allow coaches to challenge flags
Fines for all bad calls
Here 06:00, I understand the need to blame refs in a close game. It was a close call, agreed. Everyone forgets it was 3rd down, well within FG range (15yd line), and a 5 yard penalty. Not even remotely changing it would've still been a field goal. When there are close penaltie in close games, it doesn't mean the other team gets points automatically or guarantees they would've scored, or worst of all the "momentum changed". In games there are missed calls, questionalble calls, bad calls. If you study the film, it balances out.
The worst no call was the Rams vs the Saints
Which one the no call facemask that would have given Rams 1st and goal or the no call pi? The way I see it the overtime gave both teams a fair shot. What about that dumb fan with the whistle?
$10,000 fine for every member of the crew for any game changing blown call. 3rd fine and the entire crew is fired.
@themarshmallowknownasking671 it really was darn good game. Best one in a long time.
@@themarshmallowknownasking671they didn't call it all night because it wasn't happening
Sometimes the linesmen (ie the referees in the nhl) make wrong calls or don't even call a very obvious penalty call.
Tried winning a high school football game the score was 34-0 because of the bad referees
there can still be defensive holding regardless if the ball is uncatchable.
7:14 I can’t see what they are doing thanks to your blur block
I said it then, I'll say it now. The Seahawks were correctly awarded the touchdown against the packers. I'm not a fan of either, but a simultaneous catch always goes to the receiver.
The Vast Majority of these calls are directed by Roger Goodell!
IDK, calling heads then tails is a sly and shady thing to do. I don’t blame the ref on that one.
Tuck rule. Worst ref interference in NFL history. Hands down!!!
I remember seeing that 4th quarter cowboys vs packers game in Buffalo wild wings. I lived in Dallas at the time. Bro that plays was enraged during that play. And as a cowboys hater I knew they got cheated badly 😂
I would like a part 2 of this. If you do a part 2 add the cheifs vs browns helmet to helmet that wasn't called
Good lord. Do you want every play reviewed for helmet to helmet? And that play your referring to, both players were diving. There is no penalty there.
I feel like people forget that holding is holding regardless on whether the ball is catchable or not
They need to completely revamp their penalty and enforcement system.
The “Tuck Rule” call was THE CORRECT CALL per existing rule. They changed it later.
yuck.
@@thehalftimeshow It was a yucky rule!
The biggest screw up by NFL officials BY A MILE is Bottlegate. They screwed Cleveland! Overturning a pkay after another play has happened goes directly against NFL rules. That's the only time something like that has ever happened.
You forgot Jerry Rice's non fumble in 1998 playoff
The worst call ever was Logan Wilson not holding
Yea the bengals got robbed
5:37 Signal for Interception
I knew the eagles fans would cry their way into this video
Brotherly love.
I think that if a penalty changes the outcome of a play, it should be reviewed.
I am an eagles fan and when the Super Bowl ended I was not happy besides the chiefs also cheated when they played the bengals in the AFC championship
1:39 wrong Super Bowl! Lol
At least that one was a fair one haha but yeah that was a terrible call I couldn’t believe it
We gotta have a part two! 😂
This was excruciating to watch
This should be a full video of the lions getting screwed over
Tom Brady is the daring of the refs! The amount of BS roughing the passer calls he got, which won him Super Bowls, is why people hate him so much!
If you watched his Super Bowl wins no penalties ever won him a Super Bowl.
Edit: Rule 7, Section 2, Article 1.
when a runner declares himself down by:
falling to the ground, or kneeling, and clearly making no immediate effort to advance.
Oilers v Steelers '79 AFC Championship.
The XFL has it right, anything can be challenged. That's how the NFL should handle it.
7:14 nice work editor.
5:37 "...and the other signaling incomplete..." Actually, that signal is "stop the clock".
They ruined the 2020 nfc Championship, clear missed holding calls on allen lazard.
Yup. They had to get the golden boy Brady another ring though.
