[SPOILERS for Distant lands arc] Doesn't the journey in this episode playout like a tutorial of the distant lands journey? Like Susan is subconsciously performing the mission she's supposed to be here for, the only way she knows how to?
@@bonkpolice7602 I had the same thought could this be a real early foreshadowing. Like I always wonder what's early foreshadowing and what's simply consistency in the writing. Like was x planned or did they did remember statements and make the thing match with what was previously said.
- Susan refers to fire as "red flower” which is also called that in Rudyard Kipling's “The Jungle Book” - Lub Glubs are similar to the Smoke Monster from Lost, but in their true forms are like Shoggoth from the Cthulhu Mythos - The clashing gates are a reference to the Clashing Rocks / Cyanean Rocks / Symplegades in Greek mythology of Jason & the Argonauts
Pretty sure they're probably just a Cthulhu reference... was Lost even on the air at the time? Adventure Time did air for the first time a good long while ago after all.
True on the Lub Glubs, but also think that's just a stereotypical concept of demons, or evil, Supernatural also does the black smoke as a representation of a demon's true form. Like a storm cloud that moves with a conscience and purpose, a sign of impending evil and/or doom. I can't speak for Lost, just assuming similar line of thinking with black smoke, but then yeah Shoggoth is a gelatinous, fleshy, unshaped mass that can take any form, like a blown up Amoeba.
I think what also makes Fin so great is that he is constantly being pitted against all kinds of conflicts that challenge him, mentally, and morally on top of the usual physical endeavors. And often it's all three. He's also not immune to doing things outside his moral code. But he keeps his heart of gold by bouncing back by seer mental resilience or pure copium. And that's pretty rare in adventure/action protagonists.
I appreciate it showing that despite facing her fears she still needed help from Finn and Jake showing that a little help is OK to have even during an empowering moment
@@matrixster6238 I guess yeah it is a matter of taste, also after looking at an episode listing there are a few more "ehs episodes" in season 3 that I forgot about, but still can't wait for Christmas.
@@levangiorgadze5842that group didn't go underground, tho. I'm pretty sure the Hyoomans mutated from the group of humans who took shelter in Beautopia, which seemed to be a sort of bomb shelter for the elite based on the title card which shows it off with a resort-like flyer. I think most humans started wearing animal skin hats once a certain "threat" started showing up, but I can see why people would think it was that one character.
Thanks for this, a good episode. As for "paragon" MCs: my favourite is probably still, Allen Walker, because he's willing to be a gleeful devil, but will stop at _nothing_ to save _anyone's_ life. Also a master of cheating at cards; being "good" doesn't mean you give them their clothes back. Also plus points for having the rare curse that's genuinely an unspeakable horror, with an aspect of utility, rather than just an a 2nd, edgier, super-power.
Aww, yeah. I specifically check Nux a lot now to see if there's new episode. I love this reaction series. Pure cheer and analysis from someone observant that loves the hidden lore.
Cause it's not just a furry thing it was a 2000s era weeb thing. Back when physical assault was a common form of greeting and showing affection at weeb conventions. They even had wooden paddles for randomly spanking each other called "Yaoi paddles".

Man this episode god I love how so much lore started with susan's 2nd appearance. And yes I reacted the same way when susan casually pushed finn's head under the water even tho he couldnt breathe.
Bruh, Adventure Time is a banger that keeps heads banging. Every episode is nonstop fire that leads to the latest Adventure Time shows on Max. But you know, mainstream is dying or may be already dead and no one is realizing it.
Fun facts about this episode: The title of this episode is a portmanteau of the words "beautiful" and "utopia." The clashing gates are carved to look like two hands fist bumping. When Finn takes his hat off, his hair is seen slightly longer than it was in "Mortal Folly." During their journeys, Susan's comments imply that she has tried to return to Beautopia in the past. (i.e. "Never made it this far before..." and "Getting close to the Lub Glub's mash-em-ups.") When Finn, Jake and Susan arrive at Beautopia, a Lub Glub is chewing on a skull that is wearing a hat that resembles Fionna's. On the title card (inside the "I" in Beautopia), there appears to be a woman wearing a hat resembling the one worn by Finn/Fionna. Episode connections: This is Susan Strong's second appearance since her debut in "Susan Strong." She would not be seen again until much later in a major role. Cultural references: Susan refers to fire as "red flower." In Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book, fire is also called "red flower." Continuing the references to the television series Lost that were in "Susan Strong," the Lub Glubs are similar to the show's Smoke Monster. When Susan leaves the Fish People she says "I'll be back," which is a quote by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Terminator movies. Similarly, Susan's return to Finn and Jake was a partial allusion to Princess Daisy's return at the end of 1993 live-action film Super Mario Bros.: The Movie. Jake's clam-shaped head with a woman inside refers to the famous painting The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli. The clashing gates are most likely a reference to the Clashing Rocks in Greek mythology. The Lub-Glubs in their true form resemble Shoggoths. When approaching the clashing gates, Finn exclaims "Balzacs" which is a reference to the 19th century French writer Honoré de Balzac, here acting as a language filter for profanity. Storyline analysis: During the scene where a Lub Glub is chewing on what appears to be Fionna's hat, there is a large piles of skulls in the background. The skulls are almost all wearing animal-themed hats, and one skull in particular wears what looks like Finn's hat, only black instead of white. This means that the Hyoomans most likely got their hats in Beautopia, possibly leftover from a store that was selling them before the place was destroyed (the entirety of Beautopia is made up of shops and restaurants). It's also possible that the Hyoomans evolved from unmutated humans that never made it out. It is hinted that Finn learns that Susan is actually a human (& not a Hyooman). Errors: When Susan descends into the manhole, the hatch is still on top. However, she punched it clean off during the events of "Susan Strong".
