@@bezllama3325 I just finished the episode about an hour ago, yea that was absurd. The evidence lining up for them so well was also crazy, I can't help bit wonder how gaslit those guys felt as the case was stacked against them.
This particular episode is the perfect example of why I can never support the death penalty. This one guy left dozens of victims in his wake, several of which were pinned on completely innocent individuals. If Germany had the death penalty, there's a good chance that one or more of those individuals may have lost their lives due to Kroll's grisly murders. Better someone lose a few years (which we can at least attempt to remedy with monetary compensation) than lose their life over a crime they did not commit. Do some people deserve to die? Without question. But until we can be 100% certain of who the right people to kill are, the death penalty is not a viable solution.
Even more horrifying, three of those falsely accused and / or convicted of Kroll's early murders ended up committing suicide, directly due to being falsely implicated.
A lot of people, Simon included, seem to forget this. I get why a lot of people want a monster like Kroll to be executed, but the fact that a totally innocent person might be murdered by law for it, while a killer like Kroll can keep on murdering is unacceptable.
I do support the death penalty and probably always will, but I admit that police REALLY need to have ACTUAL EVIDENCE and not just "this person was in the area, we think, or knew the victim, and we like him for it" or just "we like him for it," given that one guy in the U.S. was convicted when he wasn't even in the state at the time and had receipts to prove it- how did they manage that? Easy, they threatened a woman into giving false eyewitness testimony and just ignored the exonerating evidence. That's why our legal system needs to be overhauled- it should be about figuring out the truth, not merely closing the case- and how our police operate needs to be strictly regulated with absolutely no funny business permitted and any of it having very strict penalties.
@@amberkat8147 I dunno how you can acknowledge that our justice system needs major reform because of how low the threshold is for what constitutes 'evidence' but also support the state killing people based on convictions made from that same nonsensical evidence. I'm not morally opposed to it, I'm practically opposed to it. If we could be sure we were killing the guilty I'd be all for it. But currently, we can't. And I don't know how anyone can recognize this but still support it. It's basically saying 'I'm cool with killing innocent people now and then, as long as we also kill the guilty.'
Don't get me wrong, I love this show, but damn Simon, I want to know if you're alright. This stuff can't be good for your mental health, and this case in particular was rough.

One thing people don't get about child abuse is that children have no awareness of the law When you are physically threatened you fear for your life because you don't understand that laws are in place for that kind of thing. Phsyical and emotional abuse and neglect as well as living in fear can cause anyone complex PTSD
man watching these episodes about the child killers creeps me out and reminds me of the time a stranger attempted to offer me a ride home in my early teens. I'm not sure if I rejected out of a subconscious response, trained into me by all the stranger danger PSAs or simply because I was in line of sight from my destination and it would simply be impractical. Every once in a while I dread the question of whether or not I would have had the forethought to decline should I have been further from home.
As someone who did a lot of hitchhiking as a teen, and never once got abducted or threatened doing so, most people are genuinely good people trying to be helpful. They will offer a ride out of kindness, pity, or a lack of inconvenience. Although, hitchhiking has been made illegal since then due to the minority of cases that might show up in a script for this channel.
@@blackhat4206 I'm sure the people you hitch hiked with were good people but it's still a bit of a gamble to get into a stranger's car. Regardless my case was nothing like that, I was approached and offered a ride, and when I said no thanks they pressed it "are you sure?" Multiple times and when they got the message he loudly sighed, hung his head in disappointment and drove off, that's a lot of red flags.
Hey Simon, you ever thought of compiling some of the more researched stories and just publishing them? Given how the scripts sound when you're reading them, they probably wouldn't need that much additional editing for print, and your editors already have a lot of images from various archives. The Chinese ones, where that writer actually talked to the cops and had an extensive bibliography, would be a great example. Your own comments could be footnotes, like Terry Pratchett's books.
Christ almighty this was probably the most horrifically disturbing video I’ve seen you guys make, props to you all for having the stomach to research and create this video!! I always love Jen's witty little edits they really enhances the experience. Sometimes they catch me by surprise and the humor hits me just right and I lose it.😂
I think people tend to forget the emotional side of corporal punishment and bullying. It's easier to desensitize the physical pain but dealing with the mental side of being beaten and blamed has got to be rough. Cheers....
The three childhood red flags for psychopathy used to be animal cruelty, firestarting, and bedwetting. Bedwetting has been largely phased out because while many psychopaths wet the bed past the normal age, bedwetting has too many other causes. (For example, good old-fashioned abuse and neglect can cause it.) It may be significant that Joachim wet the bed, or it might be, well, anything else.
For months I felt excluded and incomplete. Every time I tried to watch an episode Simon said "Welcome back..." and I thought, well, he can't be talking to me, I haven't watched this before. Finally I thought, well I haven't watched it, but I've seen this intro thirty times, technically I am back.
Simon, we don't always see eye to eye but I really hope you're OK after this one. That was rough and it looked very hard on you. Take care of yourself, man.
The amount of uncanny valley experienced in this video IS TOO DAMN HIGH!! Couldn't tell if I was having a stroke or if Casual Criminalist was picked up by the History channel.
In my family, hand-me-downs were kind of passed around. It was the most normal thing ever, one cousin cleaned out her wardrobe, all the rest of us got that trash bag full of clothes to pick out what we wanted. Luckily for us we had quite a lot of girls across the offspring of my great-grandmother's 13 children (yes indeed, the past). The leftovers were donated.
I'd spend a Friday evening listening to Simon read the telephone book if they still have then if not I'd listen to him read restaurant menus for 2 hours just to hear his voice
I live in Newfoundland and it's perfectly normal for people to randomly say high to others on the street. Dude was probably just surprised and was being friendly.
I think the issue with hand me downs can be that you feel like nothing is bought specially for you. You kind of need a balance of at least getting one new gift so the kids feel like they matter.
You really don't. They are children and will go through clothes quickly. Why waste money??? This is why so many Americans don't even have $500 in savings for an emergency car repair. SMH....
@@gomahklawm4446 Well, not really clothes but come on,. Children's emotional health is never a waste of money. If you're broke even a box of dollar store crayons and loose paper can remind a child you are thinking of them.
@TheCasualCriminalist Simon (and indeed Emma and Kevin) have kept me entertained with many Whistler channels. Especially this one! Not to take anything away from this video, but the one you did on Bernie Madoff was fantastic. I possibly maybe nagged Simon and Kevin on Twitter about this, but in case they seldom read tweets, I shall nag again here.... ....Is a video on Melissa Caddick being considered? Because if you thought the story behind Madoff was crazy, Melissa Caddick's ordeal would be as "Casual Criminalist" as ponzi scheme operators can get with all the twists, turns and moving pieces (I mean LITERAL moving pieces, such as the foot that washed ashore). Thanks and keep up the great work!
Blaming belts is kinda like blaming videogames. You don't suddenly gain an interest in molesting farm animals and eating people by being hit by anyone on the ass with a belt. That's more of a mental problem/lack of education than anything.
Not belts in particular, but abuse in general. Most killers were victims of abuse first, then turned their rage towards society. Simon has stated this, criminologists show this, every piece of literature on the topic shows this to be true. Using a belt on a child is and should be a crime. Take your rage out on yourself.
Are you smoking crack?? If you ASSAULT your own kids you're just teaching them that violence and causing pain is acceptable. Why do you think Fact Boy ALWAYS says 'don't fck up your kids'?
we as humans assume certain things are just normal however some kind of basic training in human interaction would help so many people especially those with broken or damaged human hardware
My son had significant socialization issues in kindergarten, and so has received special social interaction classes ever since. His is probably due to barely edging onto the autistic spectrum, but the classes in understanding facial expressions, communication skills and empathy have been invaluable, and something I wish I had gotten as a child. I think we're progressing...but unfortunately schools can only do this with the children of parents who are willing. Many parents push back against therapy or their children being put into "special ed" classes because they are worried about how it is perceived or more worried about the immediate hits to their self-esteem than how damaged they will be in the long term without any help at all.
My daughter (shes 8 months old) has mostly hand-me-downs. She has some books, clothes, and toys that are specifically hers; a little stuffed llama, a lamb and bunny, some clothes with frilly sleeves that were also hand-me-downs just not from my (2 year old) son but rather her cousins but I honestly don't care, especially while shes at home, that her onesie says or looks boyish. She won't care, she won't remember, and no one around will care. and you're right, tossing it all is wasteful. Were done having kids and have given away 80%+ of the stuff she's grown out of to friends and family that are having kids of their own. Some of the onesies she grown out of have been given away and are now on to their 5th child, most are still ok and there's no reason for anyone else to spend money they don't need to on cloths when their are perfectly good cloths we can give away.

@@bezllama3325 I just finished the episode about an hour ago, yea that was absurd. The evidence lining up for them so well was also crazy, I can't help bit wonder how gaslit those guys felt as the case was stacked against them.
Simon and team: THANK YOU. I'm trying not to watch the streaming services to support the strike and your channels are comfort watching for me.
Actors and writers arent asking for that (yet)
@@quitti A couple I saw did. *shrug* I'm not gonna police what other people do. So you do you.
Wait what strike??

I've always thought life without parole is a worse punishment than death anyway. Let them suffer a long life of misery, if they are guilty.
Mr. Whistler, you have such a big heart. Sorry this one hurt so bad.
Don't get me wrong, I love this show, but damn Simon, I want to know if you're alright.
This stuff can't be good for your mental health, and this case in particular was rough.
Simon does a whole bunch of videos on much more wholesome (or at least mentally healthy) topics, hopefully that gives him a break from the CC stuff.
I really do think that your personal reaction to the details adds value, it truly is disgusting that people do things like this and treating it like weekly news it not the right way to go about it. Great video as always simon + team
can we talk about the fact that kroll told people marian had 'shown up at his door already dead.' how does that work exactly? 🤔
I was so relieved when I heard Christa survived, my god.
Not being familiar with this story, I was fully expecting her to join the roster of his unfortunate victims who were ripped out of life half a century to close to a full century too soon.
Simon saying you should spell Chloe clowie is honestly so validating as a non-native English speaker 🫡
In the spirit of listening to Fact Boi mispronouncing names, would LOVE to see video on the 1932 Massie Affair in Hawai'i. Massie was defended by Darrow (Leopold & Loeb, the not genius killers)
Holy shit got here in under thirty seconds 😭😭 love the work of everyone on the casual criminalist team, especially Jen, her edits are always so good (the Hannibal clip in this made me cackle). Can't wait!
Jen is the best!!
Man, there are some episodes of Casual Criminalist that just hit way harder than the others. This one was rough to get through
One thing people don't get about child abuse is that children have no awareness of the law
When you are physically threatened you fear for your life because you don't understand that laws are in place for that kind of thing.
Phsyical and emotional abuse and neglect as well as living in fear can cause anyone complex PTSD
Education on laws that can apply to someone in plain language is so empowering. It’s very difficult to read through laws and comprehend them.
I'm 33 and you have now blown my mind with the pronounciation of Joachim, as I've never heard it spoken out loud until now.
The cascade of "uh ohs" as our dear innocent simon figured where the story was going will always make me chuckle. 😆 8:02
man watching these episodes about the child killers creeps me out and reminds me of the time a stranger attempted to offer me a ride home in my early teens.
@StopMoshin I wasn't trying to invalidate your experience. Just saying that not all people are like the guy who tried to pick you up.
Thanks, Simon and everyone. Wow, this was a nasty one. Hope you have a great weekend!! xxx
I cannot begin to imagine what it felt like for Mr Rahn to find his daughter like that. If that happened to me I doubt I could take it.
Thank you Simon for that was a rough case to hear as it was for you read to it. Stay strong as we know there are plenty of evil monsters out there.
I’m an hour late 🥲, thank you Simon, Emma, and Jen for your awesome work!
I love your tangets simon! Enjoy them as much as the actúal content😊😊😊😂😂😂😂😂
Christ almighty this was probably the most horrifically disturbing video I’ve seen you guys make, props to you all for having the stomach to research and create this video!! And Simon, I take my hat off for you for making it all the way through that script, I don’t know that I could have 😳🤯 I mean, holy shit!!
I had to switch off the "Hello Kitty Murders" one, and didn't even bother with Pedro Lopez after seeing how it's stuck with Simon.
Just what i needed today! Thanks simon and emma!🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
Do a video on the Serial Killer in Fort Bragg, NC. It was on one of the biggest military bases in the world. Ronald Gray
I work at a daycare with kids and lemme tell you this channel is so good but the kid murders always make me sick
Christa's description is amazing for a 10 year old... hell, it'd be amazing for an adult, that's a hell of a description! Great work!
I hope her turtle was okay.
I just found your channel and I have to admit I am hooked. I just watched the killer granny episode which was the first ever videos of yours.
I always feel odd when I click like on videos like this. It feels wrong to like when the subject matter is so horrible. So this time the like is purely for you Simon, and the team.
I listened to one episode on spotify. . . . It wasn't the same without Jen's editing. Made me feel like something was missing.
❤️❤️❤️
For months I felt excluded and incomplete. Every time I tried to watch an episode Simon said "Welcome back..." and I thought, well, he can't be talking to me, I haven't watched this before. Finally I thought, well I haven't watched it, but I've seen this intro thirty times, technically I am back.
Simon, Emma and as always, Jen,
Thank you for the best videos out there. ❤
10:18 I thought you were going to say he called Rita a cow and she got offended, not realising his backstory.
Simon, we don't always see eye to eye but I really hope you're OK after this one. That was rough and it looked very hard on you. Take care of yourself, man.
Good afternoon from Canada!! Im currently watching this while at work, its 2:19pm here. 🇨🇦 🍁
The amount of uncanny valley experienced in this video IS TOO DAMN HIGH!!
Couldn't tell if I was having a stroke or if Casual Criminalist was picked up by the History channel.
excited for this one. Duisburg is quiet close to me and never heard of this case
Hey again y’all. I’m here to request Robert Lee Yates. Also thank you to Simon, Jen, and Emma for another excellent video!
The fact that I can hear Simon's soul being sucked out of him in the moment after he says "a twelve year old girl"... it's heartbreaking.
I'm not even 3 minutes in and I'm not sure I can finish this with the way Simon pronounces Joachim and Duisburg, I wanna cry

Without Simon and all his amazing channels, night shift working would be so boring.
Don't you.. kinda need your ears?
It was a great episode all around 10/10. Interesting from start to finish 👏
Seems to be a lot of cannibals coming out of Germany 😅

Simon I love your vidoes please don't stop making them I wait patiently every week for a vidoe
As a doughy American I can say with confidence that you mispronounced everything correctly in today's video.
Simon always murders German names and I'm here for it
@@jojo-pkJoachim would be a nice name if it was pronounced Joaquin/m but it's German so it's not.
every Australian over a certain age watching this video thought "gee oh, gee gee oh"
Another Freaky Friday with Simon & Co.

we as humans assume certain things are just normal however some kind of basic training in human interaction would help so many people especially those with broken or damaged human hardware
@@ladygrndr9424 God bless you, I wish you the best for you and your son.
I adore Simon, because he's awesome, and he reminds me of stampy longhead that's definitely a compliment 😄😃💞🐨🇦🇺🦘👍.
Does anyone have an updated list of the Casual Criminalist rules? Also, does Simon plan on releasing another notebook?
10:46 i feel so bad for guys who get treated like that by women. Some guys cant help it and if you care about your boyfriend take your time and work with him. A lot of women expect men to be patient and understanding when it comes to being intimate, well some guys need that too. Especially if the guy isnt as experienced as her.
Im not defending Kroll. Just thinking about what he was doing before meeting his first girlfriend makes me vomit. I only wanted to point out that guys need compassion and understanding too.
Btw I've always found it a compliment when it happens fast 😂 😂
I appreciate this comment more than you would understand. I've been a socially awkward mess for my entire life and if I ever did happen to get in to an intimate moment with a loved one I would be so scared and clueless.
It's great when it happens fast, then never call the slag bc she's obviously loose. Back to the streets....

Okay okay. I know it's hard to pronounce but it's yo-ach (get rid of the phlegm in your throat) -eem. Joachim. Yo-ach-eem. The emphasis is on the second syllable, ach. The german ch is tricky. If you say yo-ak-eem, germans will understand it aswell, but you-ahk-im is not it lol.

Ok. So, 10 minutes in I was laughing so hard I questioned whether or not I watch too much true crime. 😅
Simon's reactions are leaning even more toward "distressed dalek" today, I see.
