I feel like this doesn’t only happen in Quebec. I’ve heard many families sell land to bigger landowners, and their descendants suffer. This even happened in my family. My great-great-grandparents sold some of our land and our family has less land without any gain.
That’s just the economic side of it. Chesterton warned about this, but wasn’t heeded in the Catholic countries who should have been the most likely to take him to heart. But Vatican 2 did as much damage. Quebec should have become a nation of Sedevacantists or Scrantonite old Catholics, but they were instead led like lambs, not even to slaughter, to be left neutered and abandoned in a barren wilderness.
My great grandparents are from places like Gaspe and Acadia. They were lumberjacks and farmers. I'm an Anglophone in Ontario working a desk job. This song speaks to the soul of our country imo. I wish it was more popular outside Quebec.
I feel like the people of Québec know some universal truth we don't know and just gave up on keeping track of the shit we do and live minding their business
It’s the fighting tooth and nail to retain your culture for 300 hundred years that gives them that sense. They have something to fight for. Something as generic Americans/Canadians we surrendered piece by piece
@@davehoyer They cannot keep it up indefinitely without something similar to replace the failed New Order Vatican. They need to either embrace Scrantonite Old Catholicism or Western Rite Orthodoxy.
You lost your faith in Shinto, they lost theirs in Christ, in the Pope. No matter how hard we preserve the trappings and symbolism of our ancestors, we simply cannot be motivated to breed sustainably without sincere religion to instill hope in the future. I think the key to reviving both are decentralized alternatives. Can a form of Shinto exist without dependence on the Emperor, who no longer believes in himself as a representative of the gods? I know a form of Catholicism exists without dependence on the failed pope: Eastern Orthodoxy! Quebec can have a total revival if they embrace Western Rite Orthodoxy in particular.
This is an English translation of the excellent song in French "Dégénérations", by the Canadian band Mes Aïeux. The themes and message of the song speak loudly to me and I thought it deserved an English translation that was actually singable and retains the power of the original. I don't speak French so my translation is based on a couple of literal translations I found online, reworked to rhyme and fit the melody of the song. Your great grandfather's dad Was the one who cleared the land Then Your grandfather's dad Was the one who plowed the land And then your own granddad took the field and made it thrive And your father sold it all for a steady nine-to-five As for you, young man, feeling lost and all alone In your one-bedroom loft winter chills you to the bone But you dream at night with a shovel in your hand in the open fields of your little piece of land Your great grandmother's mom She had fourteen kids to raise Your grandmother's mom nearly followed in her ways Then your grandmother had three and decided to prevent And your mother had just one and she was an accident As for you, little girl, a different partner every night And if anything goes wrong, you go to town and put it right But in the silent morning you can almost hear the sound Of a big kitchen table with your children gathered round Your great grandfather's dad Was a depression-era man And your grandfather's dad Counted pennies in the hand And thank God, your granddad became a millionaire And your dad's invested it since inheriting his share As for you, young man, you owe your soul to uncle sam You can't even get a loan, and nobody gives a damn And so fight the temptation to commit armed robbery you read books about how to embrace simplicity Your great great grandmom and dad They knew how to party down Then your great grandmom and dad went a-swinging through this town And your grandmom and dad They sang rock and roll all night Your mom and dad met at a disco and it was love at first sight As for you, my friend, how do your evenings go? Break away and escape from the television glow Some things never change under any circumstance Put your best clothes on Cos we're going out to dance!
Get it right.

The Church failure of Vatican 2 is nowhere more stark than in Quebec. Bugnini’s name should be a curse in your mouth.
Beautiful language

Your great grandfather's dad Was the one who cleared the land
Then Your grandfather's dad Was the one who plowed the land
And then your own granddad took the field and made it thrive
And your father sold it all for a steady nine-to-five
As for you, young man, feeling lost and all alone
In your one-bedroom loft winter chills you to the bone
But you dream at night with a shovel in your hand
in the open fields of your little piece of land
Your great grandmother's mom She had fourteen kids to raise
Your grandmother's mom nearly followed in her ways
Then your grandmother had three and decided to prevent
And your mother had just one and she was an accident
As for you, little girl, a different partner every night
And if anything goes wrong, you go to town and put it right
But in the silent morning you can almost hear the sound
Of a big kitchen table with your children gathered round
Your great grandfather's dad Was a depression-era man
And your grandfather's dad Counted pennies in the hand
And thank God, your granddad became a millionaire
And your dad's invested it since inheriting his share
As for you, young man, you owe your soul to uncle sam
You can't even get a loan, and nobody gives a damn
And so fight the temptation to commit armed robbery
you read books about how to embrace simplicity
Your great great grandmom and dad They knew how to party down
Then your great grandmom and dad went a-swinging through this town
And your grandmom and dad They sang rock and roll all night
Your mom and dad met at a disco and it was love at first sight
As for you, my friend, how do your evenings go?
Break away and escape from the television glow
Some things never change under any circumstance
