I grew up fishing small creeks and streams in Harnett Co., N.C. in the 1960's. Back then most of the water was very clean with native water vegetation. Redfins were our favorite fish. A half pounder was like a trophy. We used small strips of fat meat and jigged it around logs and water plants where they would hide. Some of the best days of my life.

I loved fishing the beaver ponds and tiny streams in Clarksville base on Fort Campbell KY. I caught some really huge Largemouth in the ponds and really nice Brown Trout in the stream.
Between the beaver ponds the stream was the size you were fishing. I pulled some good bass and panfish out of those little ditches between beaver dams. Where I live in Ohio now it’s mostly up ground reservoirs and muddy creeks full of carp. Which the carp are insanely fun to catch. There are some largemouth and smallmouth mixed in with the carp.

You said you liked that creek fishing a lot more than the saltwater fishing, well I can tell you that a fair number of people that watch this channel feel the same way. I don’t much care for saltwater fishing.

I love both: plus you can do an outstanding light tackle fishing in europe for seatrout (similar to your steelhead). But beachcasting is totally different and it can be much harder to read the circumstances under water. If you are fishing in a stream, after some experience you know, where the fish is hiding. You appear a spot and directly start to make a plan on how and where to fish.

About 50yrs ago when I was a boy I caught a red fin in a small ditch by hand in upstate New York. Kept it in the basement where my dad had live baitfish. He told me it was going to eat the bait but I doubted it. The very next day sure enough I went down stairs to check and that little pickerel was swimming with one of my dad’s baitfish in his mouth.
