You are right Favour - my salary as a ASYE SW was £30,999. When I went agency SW I was on £54k, after tax and NI, it was £2700 monthly, but gosh the stress, lack of sleep was not worth.
Agency is the real deal! What a difference 😲
Trix, I can relate to your situation because I've been there! The stress from social working can kill someone slowly! Plus the pay nowadays isn't worth it!
@@betadu6131 I fully agree. Totally not worth your mental and emotional health + my family life was suffering really badly so made the tough decision. Social work can wait, my mental health and my kids can’t. ❤️

Agency social work is better than permanent in my opinion. Better pay, more flexibility, weekly pay… you are more in control and have more room for your personal life. If you are permanent it is less plus you are restricted with your personal commitments. Expectation is more. As an agency you can never lose. Work is there, pay is better and more frequent I.e weekly pay and overall better quality of work life balance

Hello intensional favor as always I love your video,my question is as a newly qualified SW can one work part-time with agency together with ones normal job with local authority??
No you can’t, it will be impossible to manage caseloads and tbh client’s needs will NOT wait for you.
SW work Mon-Fri, both for locum and permanent.
Locum send you on assignments for three months but could last longer but again you will be working Mon-Fri.

Well done Intentional Favour, great content as always. Please what's the work schedule of a social worker like? Is it a 9-5 job? Or you may be called at anytime?
It depends, a typical SW can work 9-5 but depending on your caseload and how you manage your work you could go home by 5:30 or later but no later than 7pm.
There are SW who work at unsociable hours, aka night time, they are called “out of hours or outreach or emergency hours SW”. These nighttime jobs pay well but it’ll depend on where you live in the country.

Bachelors degree or masters degree
The first thing you will need to do is get experience in the heath and social care environment, when I say health and social care I don’t mean care assistant. I mean like volunteering with homeless people, volunteering in schools for children with special needs or volunteering with organisations that support people with mental health difficulties, you will need to volunteer for at least six months. I use volunteering cos I assume you don’t have any prior experience in health and social care.
Then the next stage will be to decide if you enjoy the role, have a deep conversation with yourself and see if this is something you can do long term. When you have made that decision, you will have to decide if you want to go for bachelor’s degree (no previous degree needed in SW, some social care experience needed) or postgraduate diploma (no degree need in SW but a first degree in any subject is acceptable and you will also have to show your commitment to SW through your work experience from either volunteering or paid work).
PGdip and MA are the same thing, the only difference is that MA students write a dissertation of 10000 words+ , could be 15000 words.
MA students and PGdip students are thought together, PGdip students get to finish early from the uni if they opt out of the dissertation.
After that, you will need to complete your ASYE so this will also be in your first job as a newly qualified social worker, some universities help with ASYE but your best bet will be to go with a local authority, they will help you with your training and pay you as well.

Hi Favour, please assuming someone who's on a dependent Visa gets a care work that would sponsor one's visa,can the spouse who's studying social work get/do a locum job immediately after qualifying as a social worker?
Yes, since s/he won't be needing ASYE. But locum don't offer ASYE, and along the line in job search, you may come across jobs that require ASYE completion. Note however that ASYE is not made compulsory by Social Work England
Yes and no, it’ll be best for the spouse to complete their ASYE first and get some experience with a local authority at least for two years, so that they know how local authorities work when the become an agency staff.
No because most agencies require people to have already completed their ASYE before becoming an agency staff as they don’t assist with the ASYE training. So without ASYE a lot of agencies will NOT accept the spouse’s application.
Even though agency staff get paid more, they don’t get the extra training that permanent staff get, as an agency staff you are expected to know everything from day one, nobody will baby you.
That is the point of an ASYE, you will be supported with gaining your experience, skills and knowledge.
In terms of professional development, some agencies don’t provide that, you will be expected to engage in and fund your own professional development, whereas local authorities will pay for trainings for their staff.
Don’t rush into being an agency staff cos of the money, try a bit of both and decide from there, at leat that way you will be able to weigh the pros and cons of both sides.
So choose wisely.

You can work at charities supporting victims of domestic abuse, young people at risk of exploitation. Work in school, children centre, prision, pre natal department at hospital and CAFCASs by supporting families in private disputes
Is social work same or related to CAMHS?
Not at all. Social work is a profession, CAMHS isn’t a profession. CAMHS is children and adolescent mental health services.

Yes, you would qualify with a 2:2.
I also have a 2:2 and I have recently submitted in my application for a masters in social work via UCAS and directly to some of the universities.
My advice would be RESEARCH all the universities that do social work and see if they would accept a 2:2 and submit your application to these universities. This is exactly what I did. I even wrote to some universities to see if they would consider me with a 2:2 and they were happy to consider me due to my experience.
Some universities may consider you if you have relevant and extensive experience with a 2:2.
There are also alternatives routes for gaining qualification as a social worker while holding already bachelor degree such as frontline or step up program

@@abiolajoy1609 they are usually fully funded programs which makes them more financially accessible. I personally think they are great alternatives for traditional route.

It depends on what you want to study, if you want to study on the field that you are already working in, they will support you, some could even pay for it for you.

No, you can just switch like that. You will have to show a commitment to the career through your past/recent job experiences for example have you supported or worked with vulnerable people and children?
You need to support and volunteer or work with children that have a form of vulnerability in their lives, this could be like a parent in prison, or poverty or domestic violence.
Getting into a SW course is like going for an audition, no university will accept your application without any form of commitment to the industry. A lot of universities require people at MA level to have at least three to six months experience in health and social care environment.
Just study what you have been given a visa for yeah, then on the side you can volunteer at organisations that support vulnerable people, like homeless charities or children with special needs or the elderly. You can volunteer with your tier 4 student visa, it shouldn’t classify as “employment/working” cos volunteers DONT GET PAID. After your MA, apply for the two years work permit and try to find a job in health and social care, try jobs like family support worker, social work assistants or work as a teaching assistant in a school for children with special needs, do these job for two years, get paid, save your money and apply for an MA or PGdip in SW, then from there upon acceptance of your application and successful completion of your studies and completion of your ASYE, you will become a qualified SW.
These things take time so take your time with it and learn about it, don’t rush into SW without a knowledge/experience of it, cos if you fail to be competent in your job, mm it will not be good for you and your families/clients. SW deal with people’s lives, so this is something you seriously need to think about, the money is attractive but just slow down and think properly.
Let’s take this opportunity to rid SW of the negative reputation they have with some people.
It is important to have competent professionals in their fields as vulnerable people will be able to receive the care and support they need.
