    I made it into a Bryce Newbold video! Check that off the bucket list ✔️ 😀
    So glad we found you. Puts it into a different perspective seeing what you went though.
    Definitely good times sitting around the fire😂 Hope to do it again sometime...except with better planning, and map😂

    Comical video at your expense. Poor Bryce.
    Running into the group reminded me of when I was phoneless. I was going to meet friends at a reindeer farm in Indiana. By providence, I ended up seeing them on a backcountry road, then we found where we were going.

    Kudos! Thank you for telling a detailed Sods tale of getting lost, found, sorta found, lost, found.... !!!! Done it 2x. It makes you appreciate the the value of being calm, prepared and cool. I spent 3 days loitering in the Bear Rocks area this past Nov. Slept in my vehicle and day hiked waiting for whiteout snow squalls and wind to die down. (I swear, there was supposed to be a window!) It didn't happen.
    I'm going to give it my best in June. When I get lost and turned around, I'll just ask "What would Bryce do?" And then , I'll laugh a little instead of getting panicky, figure it out, and get lost again. Good job buddy

    Great job keeping your head Bryce- this is more important than you know. Notice how many times you thought you were at point A but really at point B. This can happen easily to anyone. No GPS, no signs, poor map- you really showed your skill here. Bravo! You weren’t kidding when you told the guys this was a campfire story! 😎

    Was there last spring and I thought the same thing. The western sides aren't quite as badly marked but once you get into the interior dome of the sods you have no clue where all those small paths lead to. Glad you got completely lucky and found your mates. I could spend a week up on lions head. You could never see all of the paths and rocks up there.

    Dolly Sods is no joke.. Me and a couple buddies were hiking the Roaring Plains section of Dolly Sods last fall on some unofficial trails and made the wrong turn on a abandoned trail .. Thanks to a off trail app on my phone with West Virginia map down loaded we were able to wade our way out of a cranberry bog back onto a trail

  • @philamongthehills501
    @philamongthehills501 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe you have another video where you tried to start the same trail but instead started the Bear Rocks Preserve technically north of the sods wilderness. There was a trail sign there a few weeks ago marking the trail head. There is a much easier way to get to lions head a little north and I never understood why the carins exist at the southern point. Also a nice area to camp near the top in a large grove of spruce.

    Dont get lost. 1. Download Avenza 2. then register 3. then search for the map where you’ll be. 4. BF using Avenza w map on the trail put phone in airplane mode. Note: my Iphone lasts 1.5 days with Avenza running but i dont use it continuously i just check my location i dont do breadcrumbs. This saves battery + i always bring small waterproof external battery w cord to execute 2 full recharges of phone. 4 years never lost never run out of battery and this method works for any trip less than 4 days.

    Time for people to invest in an InReach and not camera gear 😂 You'll be able to contact one another more easily.
