hi sir I'm a bit confused as to why the acceleration isn't 9.8ms-2 @8:51, cause the direction the stone is falling in is positive?

its bcz he chose to make the upwards direction +ve u can also do -ve (and thats where youll use 9.8 instead of -9.8) but bcz he did +ve and bcz gravity goes downwards the gravity is going to become -9.8
