Thanks Dave for showing us these simple but very effective techniques. The TK8 panel makes it much easier to edit our photos. I know all the manual ways but that takes more time. And time is money.
I have come to find the Mask Calculator is the most important tool in the TK8 panel. When you think of the possibilities of blending masks with Luminosity Masks or blending different kinds of luminosity masks, there are endless possibilities. Working on images now, I am making numerous complex masks by blending the variety of TK8 tools with the calculator. This has multiplied the power of the tool substantially for me. I have been blending masks on the fly as you demonstrated in the video for sometime now, but even when I am right there with where you are going, I always learn new tips from these videos. Great Job!!
Thanks Dave another great video. I often forget about using the Active Selection when using the mask calculator and end up having to redo things. I think that this helped to cement the use of that tool in my brain!
Happiness is TK Friday! Your awesome tutorials show the amazing power of the TK8 panels. A great combination of a powerful masking tool along with your excellent teaching skills makes TK Friday a TH-cam video I look forward each week. (Your other tutorials are also wonderful). Thanks Dave!
Dave, and Tony too. I've said this before and I'll say it again, TK8 is the best version ever. Its power and flexibility are remarkable. Dave, your tutorials are extremely well developed and presented. That you and Tony work together on techniques convinces me there is no better place to learn tk8 than at "The Joy of Editing with Dave Kelly."
Dave, I think you and Tony are an amazing team. Thanks for the great lesson. I really love the new ways of using the object selection tool in the last two lessons.
Thank you Dave - One of your best helpful videos. I can't tell you how many times I have messed up in my first mask selection and then start all the way over. In my head I always thought I could use the calculator in different ways to get what I want - but I never seen it done. So I never tried it.
I keep waiting for these Friday sessions, because I learn so many ways to use the TK panel. Another amazing tutorial, thanks a lot Dave. I'm just curious now, can we use the mask calculator more than twice?
@ 7:14 in the first method you erased the women in the selection out of the sky with a brush. You could of minused her using the calculator method the same as the sky. In a sense another minus on top of the other minus being two minuses. Probably nitpicking as it didn't affect the woman too much but perhaps a more accurate selection. Love your work and these selection tutorials really sum up a lot of what ive learnt from you already.
Hi Dave: Great information within this video. During your discussions with Tony, did you determine if there is a maximum number of elements that would be detected in the mask via the Calculator tool? Keep well. . . . Keith
Awesome as usual! I am sure I have come across this in all the videos but if I wanted to save a mask that is created for future use, how would I do that? Once again, thank you, these videos are great!
Thanks David. In either the CX or Combo Panel there is a button you can click to save your mask as a channel. It is right next to the button you click on to de-select a selection. The icon has an arrow pointing down to a black box with a white circle inside. Click on that icon and give the mask a name and click ok to save it as a channel, then you can use it any time you need it by clicking on the My Channels Button in the TK8 MultiMask Panel.
Thanks Sarah. The link is in the description below the video but I will save you some time. Here is the LINK for the PDF Notes: www.dropbox.com/s/yc7gbkchrda1t41/Masking%20and%20Modifying%20On%20The%20Fly.pdf?dl=0
As always, thanks Dave. Suggestion: Why don't you edit the same image using the new masking tools in Adobe Camera Raw and compare with the results obtained in the TKPanel? The TK Panel is a fabulous tool that I use daily. However, the same editing results might well have been accomplished in a quicker and less "complicated" way. Simply wondering Dave...Thanks.
You're welcome Dr. Elliot. The tools are good in ACR but my workflow is a TK8 workflow and I don't find ACR masking any easier to use, plus you have to send a pixel layer into ACR. With TK8 you are working with non-destructive adjustment layers, giving you a smaller file size. I do realize you can convert the Pixel Layer you will be sending into ACR as a Smart Object and go back into ACR later and alter your modifications. I guess it all comes down to personal preference. I always say there are many ways of doing the same thing in Photoshop and getting similar results. I also believe I get better results using Photoshop and TK8.

As always, I enjoyed your presentation.
"Go slow" is very helpful to me. Being well into 70th, I often miss those little details and got stuck.
You're very welcome!
Thanks Dave for showing us these simple but very effective techniques. The TK8 panel makes it much easier to edit our photos. I know all the manual ways but that takes more time. And time is money.
Great to hear!
I did enjoy this video. Thanks Dave.

That was great! It really opens up some new ideas for me. Thank you, and Tony, again for great ideas and a showing us the power of the panel.
Thanks Dave another great video. I often forget about using the Active Selection when using the mask calculator and end up having to redo things. I think that this helped to cement the use of that tool in my brain!
Another great video. New tools to use. Many thanks Dave
Double calculations. Very interesting, Dave
Cheers
When you and Tony collaborate, we all benefit from the hidden power of this plugin! ,,,looking forward to the third instalment of this series.
Really useful!! For whatever it's worth: I increased the contrast on the sky a bit with the curves adjustment and really like the result!
Another great TK Friday. Thank you Dave, your tips are helping me so much with using the TK panel and what it's capable of. 👍👍

A great video again, thanks 🙏
Hola Dave!! Well done again!! Thank you for sharing it!!
My pleasure!
Dave, I think you and Tony are an amazing team. Thanks for the great lesson. I really love the new ways of using the object selection tool in the last two lessons.
Thanks so much!

Brilliant
I keep waiting for these Friday sessions, because I learn so many ways to use the TK panel. Another amazing tutorial, thanks a lot Dave. I'm just curious now, can we use the mask calculator more than twice?
Thank Shailesh. Yes you can and that was a great question. After you click "=" you can keep making calculations on the mask.

Thanks Tony. About the second subtraction, you are right but the brush was faster and I just needed to remove her from the sky.
Hi Dave: Great information within this video. During your discussions with Tony, did you determine if there is a maximum number of elements that would be detected in the mask via the Calculator tool? Keep well. . . . Keith
Thanks Keith. I am not sure I am understanding what you mean by elements being detected. Can you explain a bit further.
Thanks!
Thanks Andrew.
I bought tk8 and am using itI'd appreciate it if you could apply for Korean as well ~
Awesome as usual! I am sure I have come across this in all the videos but if I wanted to save a mask that is created for future use, how would I do that? Once again, thank you, these videos are great!
