What's the difference between Metals and Non-metals?

    So dielectrics can only get so glossy while metals are the most glossy? Had trouble understanding this concept for a while.

      In a nutshell yes, haha. Although I think the biggest distinction is the term "reflectivity" of metals vs. dielectrics. Because metals are so incredibly reflective when compared to dielectrics, they are more prone to reflecting any light that hits it, meaning that the colour we perceive from metals is mostly specular light. Dielectrics on the other hand absorb more of that light, and so the resulting colour is diffuse light which has entered and exited the surface of the surface several times over.
