Glad to see this process. After owning my 47 Chief for thirty-six years doing mostly city riding, the trans finally gave out and it is time to get all new gears. Do you have other videos of Indian work? I'd love to see them - post 'em up!
Well I must admit that this has never happened with my Honda. This is probably why Burt Munro kept rebuilding his Indian over all the years instead of just buying a faster motorcycle. I restored a 1964 Royal Enfield and with any of these older restorations you are fighting all the bodgy work of countless past owners stretching into the past back to the very day that some proud owner had bought it brand new off the show room floor. Hard times depressions wars and no money these old motorcycles have seen it all and suffered along until the day that they are found by some one that can see past all the problems and the rebirth begins..
I found out the hard way way with the generator drive ribbits lost all three, broke the outer primary at the bushing and cracked inter primary at the bottom.
Thanks for this, I'm going to be doing some transmission work on my 47 chief so this is very informative

A good video and very interesting to watch. I just thank God that I ride a modern Honda 1100cc cruiser.
The first day I rode my Indian a pretty young lady Yelled "Wow an Indian and ran out in front of me and lifted her shirt. It never got any worse.
