I think what makes this channel so refreshing is seeing you go through the process while explaining it to us. So we get to see the prep, the bails, the adjustments, and ultimately the makes. Its such a nice change from the usual "skate vid" type content of just make after make after make edited together. P.s. more buddy videos please.
I will probably not be on the level of attempting a flip in grind for a couple years at least, but I love that you’re putting this kind of content out. It’s super cool to watch you skate and hear your perspective on how you think about and attempt tricks. Really appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos much love brother.
Tom you're the man. These videos are GOLD! Even though I'll obviously never be nearly as good as you, every tiny bit you say just makes sense and helps. It's great to see and hear the thought process and approach of a real pro here on TH-cam. Plus, you're so super relaxed and calm and just the raddest dude, man! Please, please, please keep them coming! Peace.
The nollie flip crooks tip will def help in my case! I can flip into most basic tricks, kf bs 5-0, kf bs tail, I struggle with nollie flipping onto stuff so the carve technique def gonna help! Love the content dawg!!
Dude, I appreciate the level of detail you're explaining this stuff. The angles, the footing, etc. A lot of people that teach forget the real important details. I asked a few videos back if you could show us your setup for a Nollie flip crook and it was super helpful! Thanks brother!
just learned all of these besides the kickflip back smith over the past month. Love how informative each video is. I feel like spacing between you and the obstacle is the biggest part of flipping in. The lesson on the hubba applies to all tricks, but you may need a bigger or smaller angle approach to the obstacle. I will also add I tried to learn switch flip ins to slides and grinds before i forced myself to commit to the regular ones. It's really fulfilling. Good luck to everyone on their journey!
i love that you're just getting more comfortable recording yourself. you arent really looking away and panning off so much any and looking into the lens more too! look at this dude just getting more natural with it 😁
This video was a delight as usual ... As you always curious about what to do for the next one - for me it would be really sick to see your process and thoughts on creating, progressing and filming lines. Like what mind set there is to you, what kind of tricks you like to put in, like ledge, flip, ledge, flip type of thingy or how you get creative on the lines. The other thing to lines - if you just can not get some trick for too long do you replace it with something else or you just keep pushing that thing until you get it. Getting a whole line is much more exhausting than just a single trick so it might be a factor. Thanks so much for keeping me hyped for skateboarding in my mid 30-s, much love and keep safe
Man watching your videos unlocks so many things for me. Kickflip back 50 I had never tried and I landed one my first attempt after watching your first video. Also I love how you say "alright right here" like you're skating with your homies. Good stuff.
OMG!! This video was absolutely fire. I can't wait to be on my skateboard and try out some of these approaches. I really love your style. Thanks for the vids!!
Back when I skated smith grinds on ledges were kind of whack lol. I had kickflip backside 5-0’s on lock. I imagine if approach a backside smith like a 5-0 and figure out how to dip it Anyways great video Tom. It’s really dope seeing a pro do these types of videos. Plus I just love watching you skate. Poetry in motion!
Thank you for this video, Tom! You show your normal nollie flip foot position, then detail the benefits of your adjusted foot position for nollie flip crook. Curious as to why you don't just nollie flip in that position all the time. Off to work on fakie flip crooks with your leaning back tip in mind. 🙌
🔥🔥🔥. High level info here. Keep it comin! Throwing in my trick request for a nollie back 180 switch 5/0. Like the nollie front noseslide but a little more.
This guy remembered and actually read the comments to come back and help yall. Eye of the tiger lmao. GJ Tom. The weather here in upstate NY has been 40's How has it been there?
Back when I could do nollie flip crooks I would imagine trying to nollie flip backside 50-50. I would pop my nollie flips higher and I wouldn’t go into nose slides as often.
This inspired me to skate in the morning and then it popped up again and I thought a second sesh couldnt hurt. Love the vids very motivating and awesome
One time trying one kickflip bs nose slide the board did like the over nose slide on the other side of the ledge :my body went over it and i landed on my head, that was fun!
I was doing kick flip bs tail 6yrs ago and I haven't done one since then. I'll try the footings you mentioned same with Shane O'neil. Hopefully it works. Thanks for the tips!
more homie sessions to come! I skate fakie off the tail… I always skate so that i’m on the board the same way everytime… so I skate regular then if I revert im skating switch and fakie..
hey been a fan of you since a long time ago, ive been wondering how u do ur back 3 cause the first time i saw it i was really impressed i dont think anyone can do back 3 like you. DO A TUTORIAL FOR IT !!!
These videos are so sick! I just turned 38 and I've been pushing myself a bit more with skating after not skating for over 10 years. What do you use to film your videos?
You talked about counter pressure. I think leg strength has to do with it also. I hated finding myself for a kickflip In and turning loosing the angle or under popping it. I really agree with less toe and skating the pockets cause it creates opposite pressure. So instead of flicking off to the side its more straight. Love flicking and it grips and the board just tangles between your feet and your smackin your shins or ankle bone. Haha not skating ledges though. Anyone who does it or wants to get into. Its always work it
I agree. a lot of my switch and nollie my front foot (pop foot) is real low in the pocket, being closer to the truck I think gives more control. but as for the toe, I still use little toe for switch and nollie flip ons haha… but everyone skated a little different too… so gotta take bits and pieces of trick tips to really find what works for you! THANKS for watching!
Agreed man. Thats part of it. The process trying different foot positions, speeds, angles of attack. It helps build comfort and turns into effortless style. Flippin in ledge tricks to. You hear skaters talk about how something more difficult is the easier version. I remember and also miss the times I couldn't backtail a ledge but could kickflip in easier cause your just doin it more. The kickflip in became more the setup.
I'll never stop sayin it. Wenning was the best pocket skateboarder. He had mad good switch flip bk tails. I hope one day there's a tom asta Bwenning park sesh
great again ,sw flip bs tail slide not really for me for the moment ahah but yes kick fllip noseslide it would help me ! (videos of sessions or in the streets would be cool :)
i always thought my foot placement was weird for nollieflip crooks but it worked. you do em the same way and explained why it worked and that makes me happy haha sick
Hey Tom can you explain how you pop tricks cos it seems like you only use your ankles? Growing up in the 90s it felt like it was all a heavy leg kick to pop 😅 Gotta work out my ankles! So sick how it only takes you a few minutes to battle a trick and land it all steezy 🔥
Front and bs noseblunts I have some them front side I'm good at front nose slides I think I could do bs nose blunt on a flat bar On a ledge is ILL tho Love the vids Your 🐐'd 💯🫀
Tom asta about to turn all of us into pros 😂
Yes sir 🔥
there probably is some little kid watching these vids who will be a pro skater someday
I love how he is explaining sw flip back tails and flip back smithes while i struggle with flip nose slides xd

nollie pop and timing is my biggest struggle, and getting kickflips in or out of tail slides. going to be utilizing these videos as soon as i can!
Beautiful tech skateboarding 🙌🏽🔥👊🏽
Great work Tom. A lot of intermediate skaters have some of these tricks within reach. Your explanations are so illuminating.
The nollie flip crooks tip will def help in my case! I can flip into most basic tricks, kf bs 5-0, kf bs tail, I struggle with nollie flipping onto stuff so the carve technique def gonna help! Love the content dawg!!

Anyways great video Tom. It’s really dope seeing a pro do these types of videos. Plus I just love watching you skate. Poetry in motion!
Kickflip to backside crooked would be a good line of jumping higher level and skating around the ledge.
Thank you for this video, Tom! You show your normal nollie flip foot position, then detail the benefits of your adjusted foot position for nollie flip crook.
