    YES!!! PODCAST ABOUT “CO-PARENTING!”‼️‼️
    We would LOVE advice about how we can parent better with our husbands.
    Specifically, my sister feels that when her husband is in charge of watching the baby (9 months old), he just lays on the ground and scrolls on his phone while the baby crawls around. How can she encourage him to play and interact with the baby and get off his phone without “nagging”?

    Every time I hear Jayna talk I feel like we're the same person 😆. Her story of sewing for "sanity" after having a baby is exactly what happened for me as well. Now I have 3 years worth of making matching dresses for my daughters under my belt!

    I’m a bookkeeper! I was never fond of math growing up but when we had a dairy farm when we first started dating, my husband needed someone that could take care of it. I realized I was good at it and it slowly built upon itself. Now I specialize in helping other small businesses grow by taking the stress of managing their finances off their hands!

    I used to have a home base business (with a party plan company) that was successful for a while, until that company closed their doors. I now work 2 days a week for a church friend who started a used bookstore from her home 20 years ago when her 3 girls were little. She had a sister-in-law who wasn't allowed the internet and so she asked my friend to find her some used books online. She outgrew her dining room bookcase, and then as time went on, she turned their basement into a small bookstore. She now has a store front in Berlin, OH and has lots of tourists that love coming into her used bookstore. Her daughters are now all married. She also sends out a pricelist of all the books in her store, once a year. She hired me to do book searches for people that call her store. I love hearing how she started her own little business, that has now grown. We mailed out over 900 price lists in January and it helps out in February & March when foot traffic in the Berlin store is slow. Love hearing success stories like your's Gina and my boss.

    I sort of want to try a side hustle/micro-business type thing to try and help with expenses, but I am not business minded and already frequently feel overwhelmed with homeschooling and just life in general. So it's intimidating to think of adding something like that. Other hang up I what to try, I crochet a lot, but it's very basic stuff and not really cute. Usually just stick to baby blankets that I donate to a crisis pregnancy group.

    It is so hard to think about what single mom goes through to raise their kids. I think they have the hardest job for sure. I was also raised to care for my home and my children. My mom did work because my dad was so bad at running his own business, and she ended up doing better financially at her job than my dad. She was unable to stay at home once I was about 8. It bothered me for the first few years, but once I was about 13, I started to feel better adjusted to her full-time job.
    I am glad that Jayna has done so well selling her items she makes. They look lovely too. I've never owned a robe before, but it probably would have been very handy to have when I gave birth.

    Great content ladies ! But may I add something to ladies who might wonder if they SHOULD be supplementing or making income and feel like they couldn’t possibly do one more thing , I’d just like to say kindly those who compare themselves among themselves are not wise . We all have different circumstances. What works for one stay at home Mom might not for you . Your husbands personality weather he has his own life outside the home and looks to you to make your own life or how much time he has to help you , or where you live , in a townhouse with a small yard and a few pots , or on a farm where you cook three meals a day , plus help your husband with those farm chores etc. it all makes a big difference. The key is to find contentment in YOUR life , weather that means starting a micro business or being the helpmeet your husband needs .

      And everyone's path changes throughout life. Every step and stage can bring the need to change what's working for them and their family. I talk w my grandma all the time about what's going on or how stuff was throughout her life. I remind my 15 year old daughter that a lot of stuff that she'll go through isn't new. We've been sitting down having discussions over what she needs to learn before she's out of the house. The years go by fairly quick. Just want to make sure she has the skills she needs or at least knows what to do to learn new skills as she needs them. (She had in her head at one point that as adults we don't go to school as much as kids do and must already know what we need. I was like nope. We never stop learning. Not even the 80ish year old grandparents.)

    The part on letting go of control and letting your husband watch the kids fully was great, and definitely starting with infancy if possible. I think there may also be husbands who aren’t sold on the business side of it, and it might be helpful to address that as well. They are fine with the childcare, but can’t quite see the full vision of the side hustle yet. Maybe weigh in on that if you can, love this channel!

    The "trad wife" thing really bothers me. I worked, part time, when my children were young. I worked full time, for years, when they were in school and now am a "stay at home" nana. I love it. I am not under anyone's thumb, I am my own person. I always feel the "trad wife" thing is for people who want to have control over their wives. You can be a "stay at home" parent and still be an independent person. You two rock at that.

    I don't like the term "babysitter" for fathers. If I check the family calendar, and double check with my husband to make sure he wasn't planning something, and that time is open, I go and he cares for the "kids". Lol. We both equally understand that WE are to train up children. That said, we don't need to be the word police.

    It's very interesting to hear your perspective on trad wives and cultures where women are only seen as baby making machines.
    I also have a question for you: If your daughter (or hypothetical daughter) wanted to become a doctor or follow any other carrier, that would be difficult to combine with being a homemaker. What would you advise her to do? Would you encourage her or discourage her in that? And also how is that handled in Mennonite culture in general?

  • @spunkycat6144
    @spunkycat6144 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The thing about single girls though is that you have to get more education because you have to pay rent because a husband isn't doing it, but the husband still makes more money because of a trade or skill that he learned from family, like a father or uncle. Men train other men in high paying skilled work that require lots of strength, but the training at home that girls get isn't going to pay the rent or buy a house like a married girl would get. And school isn't free so a student loan then has to be paid back, so for women, the burden of all her income going to rent and paying for school is not something that a married woman has to do.

    Already a comment from me only 2 mins into the podcast. I dont know what a trag or tran wife is but in that example, I encounter women ALL the time who refuse to drive or work outside of the home and if they do, it is caretaking, which is actually very needed skill. However, this one lady has a 30 year old daughter who is also 'afraid to drive like me.' It made me furious. That does nothing but pass fear into the next generation. The scriptures tell us not to fear. Satan wants us to fear so he can steal our future. That 30 year, I felt deep down, her father won't live forever to drive her to her part time job, none of the finished high school, but the father did really well financially. The 30 year old will have to either stay with her mum forever but will be subject to whatever man will take her and she is just subject to abuse. This is usually around KY, TN, WVA. Also, this mindset is a HUGE thing among middle eastern women who are not allowed to be educated or drive. But the US folks I meet CHOOSE and refuse and MAKE the husband drive them everywhere.
