- An old man remembers his time as a fighter pilot during WWII. July 1944: one of his comrades came back from a sortie and hat shot down an enemy reconnaissance plane. As the pilots celebrate this, word comes that the other side has stated the name of the missing pilot: it is Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the author of „The Little Prince".

Nicht nur der Kurzfilm war ein "trauriger", aber wunderbarer Genuss, sondern auch das "Making of"!

Saint Ex a très probablement été victime d'un accident, comme tant d'autres plus jeunes que lui.
Ce n'était pas son premier accident, surtout sur P-38. Le dernier lui aura été fatal.
Tragisch, ja. Aber in dem Moment war er einfach nur ein Feind wie jeder andere auch.
Hier geht es nicht um Vorwürfte.
Hier geht es darum, was man tut, während man seine angezwungene Pflicht tut.

He was quite a good pilot. But in the early phase of war, he flew outdated and unreliable aircraft against the Luftwaffe, and by the end of the way, he was too old for fighter combat altogether, so he had to do reconaiissance missions only. Judging by the his books, he was more of a civilian pilot, than a military pilot, and he did not want many kills anyway.

L'épave a été retrouvée en 2000, exhumée en septembre 2003 puis formellement identifiée en avril 2004.
Selon le colonel Gavoille, ancien chef de Saint Exupéry, aucun impact de balle n'a été retrouvé sur l'épave...

Rippert, en dépit de ses états de service bien réels, est un affabulateur de plus, qui n'a pas hésité à s'attribuer une Croix de Chevalier qu'il n'a jamais reçue et à se déclarer subitement l'unique frère du chanteur Ivan Rebroff quelques jours après sa mort.
Great movie! No Rippert has no guilt as he was fighting for his country and had to destroy the ennemy plane. He couldn't know that inside of this P38 was a great genius and that this would cause a great loss for humanity. However, in a certain way, he helped St. Ex to redeem himself as Clostermann put it. St. Ex initially opted for Pétain and was a late-comer to the FFL... Godspeed little prince!

Les archives de la Luftwaffe (OKL), très bien tenues, ne mentionnent aucune revendication ce jour-là sur ce secteur ni aucun combat.
Comme toute armée de l'air, la Luftwaffe ne permettait pas qu'un pilote décolle pour une mission de guerre en solo.
Il y aurait donc eu des témoins.
