A few weeks ago I stood in front of a 400 years old oak, half of it was blown out from a lightning strike, but it still lives and it grows.
It may sound funny, but I felt like standing before a majesty, like I had to bow, give a gift or something. I had goosebumps all over.
These old, big trees have seen so much, survived so much...I feel humbled in front of them

Not funny at all. Same feeling when we see a clear star filled sky, look down into the Grand Canyon, or contemplate the true depths of the ocean. Civilization buffers us from this experience and distracts us from the gut feeling and logical conclusion.

Trees are just as much alive as you and I are. You don't notice the tree doing much because its movements are really slow. if you were to watch a tree in a time lapse of 100 years or so you would see that it has very intentional movements

We live just outside the entrance to Sequoia National Park. Sadly it’s burning because of an electrical storm and Forest mismanagement. The Yokut Indians used to burn this area regularly, but the Park and Forest Service stopped that 80-100 years ago. We’ve been under a Mandatory Evacuation order for over three weeks. I kept Sequoia and Kings Canyon trash free for 23 years.

He was reciting a New Zealand waiata which is a song dedicated to acknowledging the little things which we often forget to mention. That tree the tāne mahuta is appx 1700 years old. And in newzealand culture is often believed as the way the “creator” spoke to the ancestors of New Zealand and their whānau (family) where the earth mother and the sky father could communicate. I got out and hiked to different big trees and you can even walk inside them. Don't lean against these trees to take pictures or whatever reason. I learned the hard way they are covered in these tiny spines that will make you itch severely.
I did read later that they were covered in these little needles. Everywhere my body touched was itching for days.

I guess you don't know anything about pulpwood trees (trees used for paper production). Or the fact that they are a planted crop. If you use less paper, the farmers plant fewer pulpwood trees.
Using less paper in order to "save trees" is the same as eating less corn to "save corn plants". It is stupid, and accomplishes nothing whatsoever.

@@szkworc2008 we don't need to cut all trees for our requirements. At least Some trees can be preserved.

There's so really old white oaks around WI. Willow in the south and redwood in the west. What's common east US?

I wonder how many houses can be built from Gen Sherman.

There's a tree in the town of Tewksbury New Jersey somewhere by the Tewksbury Inn in the cemetery it is almost an amazing sight wait I take it back it is an amazing sight and it almost seems as if the tree has been growing off all of the people in the cemetery the limbs go on for miles at a time I think it goes so far that it has to be propped up with props every so many hundred feet it is a an amazing thing

If y’all haven’t seen general grant or general Sherman it’s definitely a must see. Any giant sequoia really. Such beautiful trees, I live 40mins from these two national parks and they amaze me everytime I see them. McKinley grove is another great place to check out located near near shaver lake, California.

It is hard to find something that is more unique and beautiful as those trees, but the nature in itself is fantastic and beautiful.
