Great video with practical solutions on how to replace TPS. Even at 72, with the help of this video, I was able to replace the TPS in my 2002 S-10 V-6. What a difference after the installation! My S-10 runs SO MUCH better. Thanks again for this video.
My 93 2.8 s10 was idling fast so I TH-cam searched after a few videos I came across yours before I watched it I bought a tps 40 bucks put it on now it runs great !
Great video. The only thing I did was move the coolant hose out of the way rather than taking it off and I had a Allen type wrench T20 tool that made it a lot easier to reach and remove the 2 bolts.
Thanks for the video. I wasn't getting a code for the tps or maf but both were going bad. The main problem was surging while accelerating and would lag changing gears. It didn't idle very well either.
I replaced the same thing on my S10 but just a few days ago it shifted hard into second gear but I replaced mine like a month ago or so now I'm wondering if it needs replaced again and it seems like it does it whenever I go on long drives for more then an hour. should I replace it again?
My 98 Chevy Camaro does that too. If I drive it for a long period, it will shift hard. It also shifts hard on really hot days (over 90° or so). On cool days or quick drives, it shifts just fine. Very strange. I haven't changed the TPS yet though so I can't say that I've tried this yet. There's some other cheap part (can't remember what it's called) in the transmission that people say fixes the problem. That entails dissecting the transmission though.
@@tateross3579 Yeah I have the 01 Grand Prix with a 3-1 but it's doing the same thing high idle and then when I have the high idle and only when I have the high idle it shifts super late like 25 mi an hour and 2,500 RPM under light throttle I also have a p0121 TPS code thanks for the reply and the vid!
What is that black thing your removing what slides off.your whole hand is on it to lift it. I have a 1996 chevy s10 4.3 engine by the base it crack trying to order without a name nearly impossible
Its part of the air intake. I dont know that it has a name and i doubt you could order a new one. You could probably get one at a junkyard easily though.
Would 1,000 rpm be a high rpm idle? I also Have a hard shift from 1-2 when engine is hot. I also get a p1870 code would this help my situation? Where do I get this part? Would the one at the parts store work?
yes 1000rpm idle is too high for a hot engine. should be around 650-750rpm. p1870 is almost always set by an internal transmission problem and not tps. You could try replacing tps but I doubt it'll fix it. Best place to get one is ebay. search th149
Why can I find a mechanic as well rounded educate as u in Los Angeles. My 95S10 blazer had everything from new pump/tank new spider inject MAF Cap Rotor wires plugs IAC and still had an idle issue.
Ya! You said that- if you leave off the little breather tube (Ya!), that it will not (Ya!) make any difference (Ya!) in the running of the (Ya!) engine, but what it will make (Ya!), is some dirty under hood air, thrown up from the tires, unfiltered (Ya!) will bypass the (Ya!) air filter. You can disconnect either battery cable but if you disconnect positive and leave the negative and then accidentally touch the positive terminal with a wrench or something it'll spark
Jason, did this fix it for your hard shifting? Mine does the same thing (98 k1500) after driving around 30-40 min. Totally fine before that. I have the error p1870. Thx.
Instead of draining the coolant to remove the top radiator hose, wouldn't it be better to remove the throtel body ? After all its just a few small bolts, and would require less time and less mess...duh
You dont have to drain the coolant to remove the top hose. Its the highest point in the cooling system so you hardly lose any coolant. Taking off the throttle body takes longer and you risk damaging the gasket

Thank you….replace the TPS on 1997 Chevy Suburban and it fixed the 1st to 2nd hard shift
Thanks for the video, huge help for me in replacing my TPS.

Mine is a 2001 blazer 4.3 btw. Basically the same though
Thanks for this video! Extremely helpful. TPS replacement successful. Thank You!
What was the reason for replacing this? Was your truck accelerating by itself?
transmission was shifting hard. I made another video talking about the TPS and how it affects the trans
@@alexsbikesandmotors yes it does but also you have shit solenoids in the transmission
My blazer won't rev up past 2 rpm
Didn’t by chance figure out the problem did you? Mine just started to accelerate by its self
@@sugargraham7920 Yes we do, but it could be the TPS too!
This video helped a ton thanks man!
Great vid good job thanks
In todays time, they want 60 bucks for that damn sensor! Absolutely ridiculous. Thankyou biden.
Hi, I have the problem that the transmission kicks in first gear, will this help ? It's a 2005 chevy avalanche!
Also I did not have to remove the coolant hose or take off the battery cable lol all I took off was the air intake and boom got it out.
Yeah he did few things weirdly.

1000 RPM is High Yes!
What do you clean it with? You mention to clean it up
brake cleaner works well
I think that's what's wrong with mines, it shifts real hard like a jerk when going into gear
I replaced tps and its running worse than it did before i replaced it. Any suggestions
Put the old one back on.......LOL JK....... Maybe the new TPS was bad?

yeah p0120 TPS circuit malfunction
@@alexsbikesandmotors Yeah, Me Too! ima have a P0121 though.
+Alex's Bikes and Motors - Hahahahahaha Alex, I see you went with a " Shorter Belt "? LOL
yeah a seal in the ac compressor is bad so i bypassed it by using a shorter belt and removing the idler pulley.
+Alex's Bikes and Motors - You next project when the Clutch Fan goes.... Electric Fan :).
@@alexsbikesandmotors bet it was the shaft seal
@@mortrubble1 yep it was the shaft seal. Later on I put a junkyard compressor on it from an 02 or 03 s10. It works fine.

Way easier and less messy to just remove the throttle body all together and don’t mess with the coolant lines
Unless you break the throttle body gasket

Are you having a stroke or something
How come you didn't disconnect the positive cable instead of the ground?
You can disconnect either battery cable but if you disconnect positive and leave the negative and then accidentally touch the positive terminal with a wrench or something it'll spark
All the time you are to disconnect the negative cable first or only and hook the negative cable up last to avoid sparks!
just a spring-stem screwdriver for flexibility with the hex bit. 5 min. job
What is the sensor you unplugged from the big hose on top?
Intake temperature sensor and mass airflow sensor are both located in that big air intake hose

Maybe. If you have a check engine light check the codes first.

Great video do you still have this vehicle
Thanks. Don't have the blazer anymore. Sold it earlier this year. Was a great truck.
how about if you fluid smells burnt or it's don't smell like oil
then change the fluid. you gotta drop the pan to drain it so its a good idea to replace the filter while youre in there.
Alex's Bikes and Motors you think it has to do anything with needing to rebuilt the tranny

What are the symptoms???
symptoms are high idle or idle speed changing randomly. Also hard auto transmission shift
