    Not yet a Magico owner, but there is incredible intrinsic value in these timeless masterpieces - regardless of how one thinks these sound.
    I appreciate that Jay, obviously a hard worker himself, could empathize with Mr. Wolf in how much time, effort and stress it takes to run a small company. And what is not shown is all the paperwork, compliance with myriad environmental, safety and other regulations and all the other hassles that have nothing to do with the normal tribulations of manufacturing a loudspeaker.
    Possibly I will be buying Jay's S7's so he can move ahead to the Q7's ?🙂

    Thanks, Jay for that insight...made me smile. Good to see that they use 95% of the ingredience i used 16 years ago in my developments. Also nice to see that they use handmade crossovers from here in Germany. Would have loved to talk to the CEO to which specs they are made to. When you entered the machine shop...man that felt so good, thats where i´m now back again....i make my parts to spec, with no discussion about why and when and why ididn´t do this and that, and the guy X did that because they heard the guy Y had made it that way. Workin on a compromiseless level is the best you could have in life, but, as you mentioned, its nearly impossible to explain to customers or regular people what an enormous amount of work flows into that. Thanks Jay, enjoyed it very much.

    In the 1960s KLH guaranteed that the speaker you buy will be within +/- 1db of the prototype.
    My father was the quality control manager of Hazeltine electronics for 14 years. Their only customers were the US military and NASA.
    Someone specified an Acoustic Research driver for a control console so he went to Cambridge Mass. to audit the company. At one point he asked the manager what the huge pile of destroyed drivers was. He was told those were drivers that didn't meet specifications and they wanted to be sure they'd never see the light of day on the market. In those days one critical specification that anything sold to the military had to meet was 10CFR29. CFF stands for Congressional Federal Register. We have many standards in industry, ANSI, IEEE, ASTM, ASME, ASHRAE and the infamous ISO9000. As a project manager I had to meet an ISO9000 compliant process that was audited both internally and externally by Lloyds of London. Not only were the project files audited but knowledge of process was audited too. You could call other people in your department during the audit to ask for help and there were instances where two employees would argue over what the process manual meant. ISO can be summarized as say what you mean, mean what you say, and have the paperwork to prove it.
    YG acoustics made their loudspeakers pretty much entirely out of aluminum using CNC machining equipment. The owner Dick Diamond said it's very convenient to have a half ton crane in your listening room. Even the cones were machined out of aluminium billets. This could be one definition of insanity. Unfortunately the video of the entire aluminum cabinet assembly is no longer available.

    Back in the 1960s McIntosh used to have "amplifier clinics" at their dealers. You could bring your amplifier and they would measure it for you for free. If it was a McIntosh amplifier and wasn't within its published specifications they'd repair it until it was at no cost to the owner.
    So what is my bottom line? Based on how these systems all work they don't do what I want them to. In short they can't produce the sound that I want to hear based on my memory of live concerts.

    • @brentwalker3300
      @brentwalker3300 ปีที่แล้ว

      So that means that you don't listen to a home audio system because "it can't reproduce the sound that you want to hear"? LMFAO.

    • @markfischer3626
      @markfischer3626 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brentwalker3300 No, it means I had to invent my own that does. See my US patent 4,332,979. Ignore the first three figures. They are part of a different patent related to measuring devices and a measuring system that should have been omitted. Is it hard? Yes. Does it work? Yes it does, very well. Was it expensive ? Not by audiophile standards. What surprised me most is that it works very well on mp3 files. I only tried it recently and was surprised. It works on entirely different principles based on my own mathematical modeling of sound fields I invented. BTW, this is just a hobby for me. My engineering skills are put to much more useful tasks.

    This is really terrific Jay, to be able to actually see some of which goes into producing a Magico speaker - most impressive for sure. One comment, unrelated to Magico is to please not play background music over voice conversation. For me, I find it distracting and further makes it difficult to hear the actual voice content. Thanks Jay, I'm enjoying this series and look forward to the next segment.

    Great video Jay always interesting to have behind the scenes look at one of the finest speaker manufacturers in the World today. Another interesting Company is Rockport Technolgies they offer superb designed and highly engineered speakers. The Rockport Lyra speaker is manufactured from a twin all aluminum continuous casting enclosure with no fixings, these two casting are held together with the custom formulated high mass damping compound that when cured forms one stiff highly damped structure a true monocoque design. It's a speaker that you should listen to in the lab.

    Who’s buying a speaker from a manufacturer who sends out their speakers without being tested first? They gotta be real cheap speakers

      That's great for a single instrument that must sound in a particular way but a speaker must be able to accurately reproduce all instruments, including those not made from wood.
