Crystal radio technology has been around for many years. This "bottle radio" take on a crystal radio requires no power source, operates on the power from radio waves, and receives signal from a long wire antenna. As radio stations slowly move away from the AM band, the "window of opportunity" to experience this remarkable technology is dwindling. The "crystal" in question is contained inside a germanium diode, and is used to rectify the radio signal so that our ears can hear it. - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
My grandpa did one in Poland during WWII to listen to London Radio. It was extremely dangerous: if Germans had found the radio, he would have been killed in place.
I didn't think that crystal ear phone was still around, the first radio I made was a foxhole radio 55 years ago
Very clear instruction! Now I just have to find the time to make it. Thanks.
You guys did this one already. It's how I found the channel.
Note: A lot of coat hangers are coated in varnish/enamel of some sort. You may need to sand it off where it contacts the screw, and the coil.
This was a really well done video. Do more like this.
Great video! Thank you Weekend Projects.
You guys could start a new world if one ends.
That was awesome, can't wait to try it out. Thanks.
Wow I can't believe it's that simple I'll make this one day it uses everything that is easy to find!
I was making such radios in my childhood.. eh.. there was a time.. :)
as long as there is a radio shack
VERY cool project!
Thank You! This is a great project.
Very nice build.
Can it be made smaller?
I built one of those before but it came in a kit that I bought from radio shack. It actually worked to even though my dad told me it can be hard to get these things to work on the first try.
I'll sure try this one. Thanks.
This is really cool!
This is what Make should be about.
Woo amateur radio enthusiasts!! I've always loved simple foxhole/cats-whisker's radios, it's amazing how they work.
Well done yous!
great project
i love make!
finally! something within my relative price range!
why can't an earphone use alternating signals?
please the software used for montage :)
i've wanted to do this for years...thanks....
that radioshack mini amp is great for making dyi ipod speakers, only issue is the speaker in it is crap and gets impossible to hear after you turn the volume just a little bit
you guys rock
I'm sure you might get questioned by security if you brought this anywhere near an airport.
Not a water pipe but w/e. Is there a reason you don't use the crimps on those pliers?
amazing!
pretty cool
Now that's what i call spin the bottle
I love these! I remember as kid on the bps show "zoom" where they had a demo of one made with two tin cans that fit indie of each other. you would rotate the tow cylinders to change station. I would love to see that on here? Anyone? :) Thanks!
Chris
which one?
Awesome!!!
can you tell me how to waterproof a normal battery powerd radio/CD player?
REALLY nice!
but it would be even more awesome if you would have explained the physical/electrical processes behind it, cause those are genius! (I know them and I was really amazed^^)
You guys made this a little costly. We use to use parts and wire scrounged from old electronics and a oatmeal box (also known as a mush box) instead of a bottle. It would be cheaper to by a store bought kit then buy the materials for yours.
Awsome
you guys have already done this project
Great!
You rock
cool radio
i wanna make 1
cool video now i have to make it :)
muito legal,ao contrário do que pensam nós brasileiros, tanto estudamos quanto gostamos muito de tecnologia.
Cool!
nice
Cool, I think.
Stuff like this is why I'll survive the zombie Apocalypse. lol
Great video, can't wait to try it!
Listens to am
So you're not going to actually demonstrate it?
I thought the bottle would be used in place of a speaker but then I saw that it was a crystal radio.
cool me gusto bien :)
woow nice video :D
I was expecting "...and instead operates only on the power of WIZARDRY!!!"
Cool
This is pretty fucking cool!
It looks like so called "fox hole" radio. Too bad it only uses AM (amplitude modulation), cause FM is the fácto in my state.
I thought I would do this, but I wont!
Budweiser Bottle Radio for kids
um cool!
Camera! Shaking! ARRRGGGG!!! Good video though! :D
So basically it's like the foxhole radio you uploaded WAAAYYY back when...dam...I remember that hitting my subscribers box and not list!
this is really cool.... just saying
this was actually pretty cool, and WHY THE HELL are you holding my comment for approval?
to bad it is not a fm radio
this will be great for when the zombie Apocalypse comes
Y not just buy cheap radio and much cheaper... And who liste
So you know, saying 'You will also need' and then just showing the materials and their names feels awkward. next time, just read them off quickly and let the image sit for a second after you are done reading. Otherwise, very cool video!
no no no no no no no no.NO......they need to bring kip kay back.
BRE PETTIS did it better
i think.. ithink this is cool. hehe *butt-head*
I think u can continue to publish yours game video and comment other stupid video. This channel is for people with a brain inside head.
Well done yous!
