    A very tiny bit of Deoxit on the posts always helps to ensure good connection.

    You *CAN* touch valve tubes with your bare hands. The myths stems from old style halogen light bulbs which you can't touch because oil and dirt will crack the glass.
    Thanks for the vid.

    Hey man, just wanna say thanks. Had my valvestate stack for 20 years and it's only been cutting out nowadays. Replaced the tube, ordered from your link, and it sounds great. Quick ten minute job. Thanks again man.

    Thanks for the amazing tips on amp repair. It's a misconception that you can't touch the glass of the tube. It is really OK to do so. This will not shorten the lifespan of the tube at all. That is only the case for halogen lamps. ;)

    Ok so heres a couple things to teach your boy.
    Hand in pocket!- only ever use one hand when working on amps even when its off! your boy had a hand on the chassis and on the tube.
    Touch nothing!- dont ever touch anything with your hand when its powered up like you did.
    The only thing you will ever have to do while the amp is on is adjust trim pots, and thats only with an insulated screwdriver.

    Sir as i work with vacuum devices i can tell you that touching the glass on vacuum tubes is perfectly safe as long as there is no high voltage around them but using halogen or quarts lamps as they are an extreme vacuum you need to wear the gloves provided as those bulbs operate at extreme temperatures vacuum tubes operate no where near that temperature.

    • @jmcwd
      @jmcwd 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Touching the tubes will put oil on the glass, which will cause the tube to not heat evenly, which has the potential to ruin the tone.

    • @treegasmicthearborist5763

      jmcwd your on to something bad really does not prove to do any damage I've had oil in tubes that get extremely hot and lived a full life actually oil would help dissipate a small small amount of heat lol

    Awesome seeing Dom dive into a bit of Metallica, and I love the thumbs up image at the end - very creative :) Wondered why you didn't wanna touch the tube tho :D good for headlights but tubes are fine, I think you may have seen someone holding a HOT tube in the past with a cloth, and the halogens definitely go bad being touched.

    I've replaced the preamp tube on my Marshall Valvestate 8080 with the same model Tung-Sol 12AX7 but it didn't work out for me. The drive channel was extremely low volume and impossible to play. Returned the old Marshall tube and it sounds fine again. Don't know whats wrong

    I have this same kind of amp and it's giving me really bad sound but I'm not sure if it needs a new tube or whats up.. The amp jus turned on everything volumed down will make a low buzzing noise and turning the volume/gain knobs on the clean channel will cause LOUD cracking noises (they're louder than the level of volume should allow). Is that the tube then?

    I have a Marshall Valvestate model Vs102r. After 18 years of owning it, I opened the cabinet after I was having the same issue you were having. I need to replace the preamp tube. Where did you find it? I’ve been searching for hours. Please rsvp. Thank you. This video is awesome I didn’t even know it had a tube. I thought it was tube emulation.

    Those Tung-sol tubes, is actually better for bluesy/rock sounds. not good for metal or hard metal. But yeah, good tubes for the 80xx series Solid State valvestate amps. They came out back on 90'-91' I have the bigger model 8080 V80. Combo AND the head version of the 8080 named 8100. Good old solid state amps. most of them nowadays, mostly needs changing the potentiometers. But ALL worth it. I have a Vox AC30C2 Custom Black too. But mostly use the old Marshalls. I bought my 8080 back in late 92'

      After many comments like yours, I ended up ditching my 2 week old Blackstar IDCORE and sucked it up and got a Marshall Valvestate 8240 2x12 a few months back for around $180. It has zero issues, the celestion speakers sound great and the pots are smooth. This is my first big boy amp and I absolutely love that classic Marshall overdrive built in combined with the StereoChorus. If anyone reading is considering a Marshall Valvestate amp, I highly recommended spending the money.

I tried to put some spry WD-40 inside the pivot, but after a while it starts again, so I need to replace it but I cant easy find the replacement because of the particular pin connector. do you know some supplier please? cheers, bye.

      ACERob71 don't spray fan it may start a fire because wd40 is flammable. replace the fan, its likely bearings are bad in fan and fan cost only 10usd. on Ebay or Amazon.

      what kind of guitar? I have an 8100 too and it can sound mean or wussy depending on the guitar/pickups. I had a copy SG with humbuckers that sounded really weak then I plugged in my BC Rich Stealth with duncan designed humbuckers and it sounds beastly. Settings are kind of touchy with the 8100 as well imo

      nuttinbutchain Hi. I have a B.C. Rich Warlock with stock humbuckers. Even though it isn't a high end guitar I find it strange that a Marshall with a good rep for metal sounds lifeless compared to my 15w Line 6 practice amp. P.S. this may not make a difference but I played a Gibson Les Paul Custom through the 8100 & it also sounded dull, weak, & lifeless. Thanks for listening cheers (:

      i own two models the 8100 head and the 8080 which is the 1x12 combo version. both definitely have enough gain to get heavy metal tones. i think something might be wrong with your amp if a les paul sounded dull and weak through it

    why should i avoid touching the new tube?

    • @MagnusRex4
      @MagnusRex4 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vappo Riesat the grease/oil from the skin will stick to the glass. The glass in turn, will not heat evenly, due to the chemical reaction of the heat with the skin natural grease but as the interior of the valve causes the glass to become quite hot this uneven heat distribution will damage the glass and thus reduce the life of the valve. This is also true with automotive light bulbs and most manufacturers provide warning for not touching the bulbs with bare hands as it will damage them
