I use Ableton but I had the same issue with FL. I tried several times to get into FL, but it just doesn't compute with me. It's a matter of what sits good with you, not a question of which one is better. Any DAW has strong and weak points.

I've been using Ableton since 2005 and it's incredibly powerful and deep if you want to spend the time getting into some of the more robust features like the racks and the live performance features. But as a straight recording daw compared to a more traditional design like Protools or Logic, it has some deficiencies. I know a lot of people who came out of traditional studio environments that hate doing the fundamentals like mixing/mastering in ableton.
For arrangement, organically coming up with quick ideas and getting super-nerdy with effect/instrument chains, macros, and other things it can keep me occupied forever.

I think the reason it doesn't feel quite "right" to many producers is because to me it was a "live" performance/DJ program that evolved to include producing.
Ableton is kind of genre specific also. It is very popular with electronic producers (trance, house, step, etc)

I used Ableton Live for many years. v7 all the way to v10. I also played live with it for quite some time. Before the Push I used it with mouse and keyboard mainly. It always felt slow and awkward to make music with keyboard and mouse especially since I am a dev and fondle my keyboard all day already. I don't want to push a mouse for making music. Then I got the Push to solve this but I always hated how much it slowed me down and that I find the button layout to be something I just cannot remember until the next session. Then Live pushed itself over the edge by starting to behave weird. Crashing a lot, let me spend too much time to fix things before I can make music. My studio is wired and setup to be ready within 2-3 minutes max. When I need to fix things for sometimes the whole time I have time to make music it just sucks big time. Live did that to me constantly for some time and then I also lost a couple of projects because of incompatibilities between updates. I hated using Live and in turn started hating making music. That changed when I got the MPC in 2019. Now my setup is MPC for creativity, the extremely fast tools to get ideas out and refine them. And Studio 1 for arrangement, further refinement, mixing and then mastering. Everything is still setup to be ready within 2 minutes and it just works. S1 is incredibly stable. It sounds awesome and mixing just feels right. I even see myself using it for creating new beats from scratch. S1 is just that awesome. And the S1+ subscription is totally worth it.
When the Push 3 came out I got that and tried it out but still hated it and sent it back. MPC + S1 makes me so happy as a musician

I couldn't really wrap my head around Ableton when I first bought it either. In fact, It didn't make sense to me for a few years. I bought a used Push 2 and Abletone finally clicked. I haven't opened any of my other DAWs (Reason, FL Studio, Studio One, Cakewalk, MPC, Maschine) since then. Then bought a Push 3 standalone. Blows the MPC and maschine plus out the water IMO, but from a hardware POV and workflow POV. And I have MPC Live and Maschine Plus. The Push 3 just makes since to me.

Just keep using it bro!! It's very musical!! For me it's better than all of the daws which I use everyday!! I'm digging deeper into Orchestration and this daw is a beast. For trap and hip hop I can see your feelings. Even though I do all types of music, ABL can take it all!! You are board because the music you are making may not challenge you anymore!! If you stick with ABL and grow your music to an even higher level and keep going higher, trust me you'll began to see the Logic in using ABL!! Love the channel. Met you at NAMM. You a cool cat!! Holla!!

It’s been like this since the beginning of 2020. I bought a new MPC One(the 1st one) when it first came out and still haven’t opened it 🤦🏾‍♂️.

The thing with Live is, it IS the most powerful DAW, especially when it comes to making beats. Simpler, the Drum Racks and - if you know how to use them - the new Take Lanes are amazing for making composite beats out of lots of individual loops and samples. It’s also the FASTEST DAW too, once you know it, it’s faster than Logic! It can just take time if you’re coming from another DAW - like FL Studio - it’s so easy it’s hard!

@dan_tanna same here, FL's non-linear workflows with the multiple windows just destroys my ADHD. Lmfao. I've been saying it for years but I think DAWs are a really personal thing, what DAW clicks with you can be completely different from someone else because the way you think is fundamentally different. Same goes for plugins. Really highlights the silliness of how serious people take the DAW wars when you think about it. Lol

Live is the best Daw “IF” you are using it to its full capability. Which would be both producing and using it live. Which is why I think it cost so much, it’s basically two daws. But yes if you’re just producing, you are going to feel like bolo because things like FL or Logic could just produce better. Personally I like the workflow of Ableton, very comfortable producing with it, so I’m sticking to it.

You're familiar with your workflow/what you're used to which is a good thing. Ableton is good for making beats and arranging. I use ti for that alone I arrange stuff then dump to PT to mix. The plugins are dope for adding to your samples. The mixing is cool for draft but I don't like the mixing part. I personally use Logic and S1 for tracking live bands then dump to PT. Ableton have various ways of manipulating sampling. I use Reason for their patches it let you use it in Ableton or any DAW as a plugin with sounds and dynamics. It's all preference much respect and give Ableton a try it may take awhile to get used to.

There are features that mimic FL and Sudio One - you have to build a good template. You are right, when you first turn on Live, there isnt much there. You need someone to build a killer Template that has all of the stuff you like to use. Protools is very similar when it comes to first opening up the program - pretty boring. FL, Reason, & Studio One did a great job making the app appealing as soon as you open up the program.
