Actually I cant be the only one. HOW in the hell do you get the elbow or Tee to end up tight AND facing the exact direction you need it to face?
The three threads of engagement for wrench-tight is approximate. Tighten until you have it facing the way you want it and with approximately 3 threads engaged from hand tight. Once you do it a few times and get a feel for it, it will make sense.

The machine used in this video is a Ridgid Model 535 Threading Machine. You should be able to find a manual for it online.
