maybe the 'security deposit' is for hotels to make sure they get something just in case a foreigner will just leave without paying ? ... a foreigner can just leave the hotel, go to the airport and leave the country ... maybe many foreigners are doing that ... so it make sense

What if I took a robe? Would they simply keep your deposit or have you arrested? What is the hotel's policy? Also, for new viewers introduce your gf if that's who she is.
