- Oleg Kalugin is a former KGB general. He was during a time head of KGB political operations in the United States and later a critic of the agency. After being convicted of spying for the West in absentia during a trial in Moscow, he remained in the US and was sworn in as a citizen on 4 August 2003.

What a good interview. Very amiable man. A Russian who actually states things as they happened not just stating the purely party line. I can remember seeing a video years ago of Yeltsin drunk.
What a fabulous interview! I am from Romania 🇹🇩 so I would say I'm familiar with the persecutions and fear the Romanian Securitate (a "nephew" of KGB & "brother" of East Germany's Stasi) inflicted on our population in the communist regime. We, Romanians, know first hand what 'an empire of evil' russia has been for hundreds of years. They invaded our land 11-12 times. Fortunately, they will never do than again. But this ex-general really knows what he's saying. He's now one of the very few russians I like. Baryshnikov and Sharapova are the other two.

Kind of annoying that the capsule description of this video doesn't say when the interview was conducted. Since Kalugin has nothing to say about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, I'm guessing the interview took place before -- and possibly well before -- February 24, 2022. In any case it would be essential to have some historical context to his observations about Putin.

I was watching the longer video which had comments turned off. I was amazed by his talk with no notes. Imagine how free and safe he felt. Most US politicians would dare not and could not speak that freely. Of course we have a few off the cuff blowhards that contradict themselves on a monthly basis and seem unable to actually talk about facts and instead fall back on fantasy.
As long as he isn’t going against Boeing. If Mr. Putin himself wanted to blow the whistle on Boeing I would be afraid for that man’s life and fearful for mine as well.
