Oleg Kalugin former KGB general uncut interview 2013
a former KGB general (stripped of his rank and awards by a Russian Court decision in 2002). He was during a time head of KGB political operations in the United States and later a critic of the agency.
    ***
The Dymshits-Kuznetsov aircraft hijacking affair, also known as The First Leningrad Trial or Operation Wedding: was an attempt to take an empty civilian aircraft on 15 June 1970 by a group of 16 Soviet refuseniks in order to escape to the West. Even though the attempt was unsuccessful, it was a notable event in the course of the Cold War because it drew international attention to human rights violations in the Soviet Union and resulted in the temporary loosening of emigration restrictions.

A personable person outwardly, I wonder if he is the same internally.
Enjoyable interview, I’d love to have a dinner and conversation with him.

Found this video going a search for Oleg.
I'm 60, and in the late 70s, about 79 I was working as a night auditor at a motel and a group of Soviets visited the US. They had an American who gave them a tour and he spoke Russian and told me that they were told the Americans were showing them stuff to fool them. They were shocked at the amount of cars and loved our grocery stores.
Communism was the most evil system ever to exist in the last 500 years. I would loved to have interviewed this guy!
The old joke about the Soviets.
There were 2 Russian women standing in a long long bread line, and one woman said can you believe how long this line is, and the other woman said, yes, but imagine that in America they don't give away free bread. 🤣

@@hoosierdaddy2308 Calling names?!? By which name did I called you?!? No. I'm giving FACTS. You are only saying something you heard and are now repeating it 'cause you think it's going to make you sound cool. It' a well known fact that schools in the west don't educate-they only prepare kids for the labor market. Still, you western educated boy presume you know history better than me, who studied it for decades. I could bet every possession I have that you don't even know what "communism" is. But don't worry bud. I'm not going to hold you a lesson. I just hope that you are going to believe a guy who lost very close members of his family to both of those regimes when he tells you "Fascism is muuuuuch worst!".

I wish I could interview him. Oleg Kalugin is such an amazing and charismatic man. Too intelligent and honorable to be tolerated in modern Russia. I would love to get his opinion on what's happening today in Ukraine and Crimea. Sadly, my wife and her are living this nightmare now just as your family did years ago...as they're trapped in the Crimea. It's a long story....but at least you were able to show the world what happened to your family. God bless.

I was googling a supposed pre-internet interview with him by some English newspaper in 1993 or so, that ran with a (sub?)title “I arranged the k of Markov”. Supposedly, in the interview he lacks any remorse: his point is that he just executed an order. Which is the same line as that of the defense on Nuremberg process. It’s funny how a clueless hipster can interview this guy for no purpose whatsoever.

Last comment....regarding Oleg's comment at 25:00....hate to say for him this is a naive answer as we all know now that Putya is the new Stalin.
I wish Oleg Kalugin would give an interview on this if he's able.

It's sad to see that Oleg was proven wrong on the question about whether Russia could ever go back to the old ways and close off from the West. In his answer he said that those who respect Stalin are a minority, and now appears that the Russian state media has managed to turn that into a majority.

Oleg Kalugin is such an intelligent man. If he had grown up in the USA, he would be CEO of some big corporation, I'm sure. He survived the dog-eat-dog Soviet Union era, and thrived. He played the game of life on "Expert" level. A very remarkable man!
