This scene is a perfect foreshadowing of how the Cylons worked in the early days of the war and pre-war era. With everyone expecting the Cylons to be completely unchanged after 40 years, the skin jobs could just walk right in, get any information they needed, and by the time the Cylons spring their full-on attack, it's already far too late to stop them.
Was it ever explained how nobody noticed all the identical clones ? IRL, even without Facebook people notice identical twins. E.g. the identical twins that were swapped in Colombia with another set, they met each other after people started asking 'hey, do you have a twin brother'..
@@IvanTre Well, we're talking about Cylons spread across multiple planets, and there's no indication of any kind of real social media in this universe. So, if say there was only ever one clone on a single continent at any given time, odds are no one would even see two Cylons in their lifetime unless they spent a lot of time traveling between continents and worlds, and among billions of people, an identical stranger isn't so unlikely. Further, there's also the fact that no one knew organic Cylons even existed, so they wouldn't know to watch out for them.
They'd not be watching for cylons, they'd just notice the doppelgangers. Had Cylons used plastic surgery so infiltrators all looked different, that'd be no risk..
@@IvanTre Again, we're talking about multiple planets with popultations possibly in the billions, with no guarantee that there would ever be two of the same clone model on a single planet. Maybe if the Cylons had been infiltrating for centuries there might be a chance of someone coming across two clones of the same line within their lifetime. But within a brief span of 40 years, and the Cylons taking steps specifically to avoid the very scenario you're describing? No chance.

@Mark Miwords I'm actually watching the Expanse again right now. So many awesome and well produced Sci Fi to choose from. Comparing them against one another is hard to do.

I can't imagine any other actors playing the parts they're playing.(scene stealers)Katee Sackhoff, Luciana Carro, Michael Hogan, James Callis are standouts.... but ..hell...the ENTIRE CAST is amazing.
It was a well made show. Check out "For all Mankind". Same guy. Another well cast and thought out show. It re-imagines the "space race" to the moon. This time the Russians win. They get there first. So the competition intensifies, all the way to moon bases, space combat, and Mars. Cool show....
Was never a fan of BG, but I gave the first episode a watch not expecting much... and it hooked me in to however many seasons there were. So many great performances, the way the battles were filmed, the tension. Just brilliant.
This is the very first time I saw this stunningly beautiful, graceful and skilled actress. In this scene. Her popularity, some could say, began right in this scene. Tricia Helfer.
I've watched this scene 100 times over the years and it still makes me want to get out of my chair. The masterful use of music with the Cylon leitmotif. The slow burn. The implication that Cylons know very well that men are weak if a beautiful woman approaches them and therefore know all of our weaknesses. Our human weaknesses. Meanwhile we haven't seen them for over 40 years. They've evolved in ways we can't comprehend. Death means nothing to them. I can't believe how good BSG's writing was.
I always wanted to see it from a different perspective...Data is there instead of a human, with a cloaked, highly armed Klingon bird of prey close by. Data is exploring the station as an unknown artifact when the Klingons warn him of the approach of the basestar and a shuttle. He scans the Centurions and Six with his tricorder as she approaches. Six doesn't recognize Data, and asks if he's human. "No. I am an android. I am Commander Data, of the United Federation of Planets." This causes instant confusion amongst the Cylons. They decide to destroy the intruder. She leans in to kiss him...the basestar fires its missiles...the Klingons beam Data back a second before the station is destroyed. The Klingons leave via the same anomaly that brought them back in time 150,000 years, and the loss of telemetry from the station warns the Colonies.
One of the best show openings evah!!! The music with the unmitigated unconcerning annihilation; gives me goosebumps every time! Tricia Helfer is the perfect Cylon representation in this scene, a reckoning of what’s to come.
Just like to point out that after watching this show 3 times i've just realised the boy in the picture is the same boy who gets rescued in Helo's and Boomers Raptor with Gaius Baltar 1:54. Little details like this make Galactica worth coming back for its that good.

@@northerntruthseeker PC isn't the problem with Discovery. BSG was full of PC themes mate; as was Star Trek (all of them), Stargate, Babylon 5 and most other successful sci fi shows. Sci fi has always dealt with social standings, constructs, equality, freedom, politics, etc. It's just that there wasn't an uproar against these things back then :). There is now, of course. And so today, all that is required for a show to fail or garner hate, is for one person to comment: "this is just SWJ bs, give the fans what they want" and that's it - one comment will influence and spawn 10 others, those turn into thousands, those thousands demand and give room to videos that critique a show for pandering to specific people. And once that happens, there's no more room for analysis or any sort of semblance of discussion. It's just two sides jumping at each-other, unable to convince one another because they each already made up their minds. Cool stuff. But yeah, there's always been politics in Sci-fi, it's just that the shows that share your view/s you let it slide or even praise them, while those that are contrary to your beliefs you critique. Don't kid yourself into thinking a sci-fi show you truly like doesn't have political connotations - because it does, they're just in lieu with your views, and so you give it a pass.

I have to agree with David Powell on this one. I too enjoy sci-fi and tried to like the show (saw the original which never took itself seriously, fortunately) but the storyline, direction and camera work were atrocious.
@David Powell Yeah, the writing went downhill at some point, and you could see there was no overarching plan and they were just making it up as they went along. This bacame most obvious in how they handled the "final five" and the Starbuck dead/alive/disappearing stuff towards the end. Still it had some of the best setup, actors and single episodes ever to be on TV thus far and was ahead of its time in many aspects.
@David Powell Star Trek Discovery (1st season) had no likable characters. This was just a dark show. Perhaps the model that everyone after tried to follow (I blame stargate universe on this). Consider the circumstances of the characters i.e. last of human race, fleeing for their lives and perhaps their actions are more understandable.
@@macsmith2013 I do agree with your criticism that the overarching plot structure for the series was not plotted out. As far as Starbuck, you can google for the writers comments on her--what came back was not Starbuck--she died (when you think she did).

A small detail, but I really like that cylon-esque sound that plays whenever the text appears. I think it helps set the tone and, combined with it's blunt and cold delivery, makes an otherwise tedious exposition dump engaging. It's kind of like the Ken Burns effect but for text instead of still images.
The series was terrific, because it had besides the well done visual effects and an innovative camera work a deep philosophical aspect in the question of God, man and AI and the fundamental question: what is life . At the time absolutely ahead this series. Not all parts had this philosophical context, but some were so profound that they kept you busy for days. Thanks to the creators of this great series!
After all those years and all those series, this show is my 2nd favorite after breaking bad. Such a drama, oppressive, the performances, the music, the symbolisms.
This show had so many memorable moments and pertinent themes it remains one of my favorite shows of all time. I'm watching it on Prime now, however they did not include this episode on Prime so if you haven't seen this episode you are missing a lot. Hard to believe it's 20+ y/o.
I watched the whole series and was fascinated by the re-imagining. However, I'm not sure I could watch it again because of the darkness of it compared to the original. However, that doesn't keep me from appreciating the scope and impact it had. Any show that could surprise me the way they did with the final five, which had me drop the F-bomb in front of my wife, is worthy of high praise.
I've always remembered the scenes when the nukes start falling and people are in some field out in the country evacuating watching the mushrooms grow around them.
I'll never forget this series, especially the incredible soundtrack with acoustic drumming. The final season got a little wonky, like when Starbuck got inside a Cyclon battleship and controlled it by pulling on its veins and organs? ... but overall it was brilliant.
I watched this series in English and in German and it really was outstanding. In my opinion it made Star Trek and Star Wars look juvenile. The script and acting were great and the female stars were superb. Unfortunately all good things must end.
The BSG reboot is the BEST sci-fi TV show I have ever seen in my life - even eclipsing most major studio sci-fi films. Describing its brilliance with all the superlatives I can conjure still would not do it justice. It’s a masterpiece. If you’re on the fence about watching this series, do yourself a favor and hop the fence. You won’t regret it.
Really set the tone for this series, and showed everyone just how different this remake was going to be from the original! Plus Tricia Helfer in that red dress!
Loved the series, but man was it DARK ! Visually and thematically one of the bleakest sci-fi series I've ever seen - I actually looked forward to battle scenes as a break from the endless psychological warfare of cylons posing as humans while other cylons plotted to save humanity - it did my head in. Grace Park's dual character plotline was a stroke of genius, but it was still hard to take when she started killing her own crewmates.
"Peace was never an option." And as we learn later in the show, it was humanity that who planned to launch a surprise attack on the Cylons in order to wipe them out for good. The problem was that the Cylons learn of it and were simply better and faster in executing their own pre-emptive strike.
Those series were test from my husband if he should marry me or not. Ofcourse, I didn’t knew he was testing me. From the moment I started watching it, I couldn’t stop. We have being happily married for 12 years and still watching the whole series after every new year, on my request 😂

No chance.
Also they change haircut and wtf.
I love how the debris hits the "camera" at the end. Subtle details like that stand apart from other sci-fi.

BSG is a Masterpiece! It garnered so many awards, Emmys and so forth, for being only four seasons! The space battles are literally out of this world! It features some of the best acting and scripts ever written!
I couldn't agree more. I rewatch it, full binge style every year or 2, and it is fresh and awesome everytime. A Masterpiece from start to end.

Still one of the most brilliant shows ever to be seen on TV. It never got old.
Too bad the show went off the rails in so many ways.
Same. First time I had seen her as well. Then in Burn Notice.
@@Steven-wz7sh She is friends with Katee Sackhoff. There are TH-cam videos that show them hanging out together. Real funny and smart gals.

I am Commander Data, of the United Federation of Planets."
This causes instant confusion amongst the Cylons.
Yes, and I notice he had photo of wife and kids. That detail was included intentionally.
Tricia Helfer, goddess in sci/fi. Nuff said!
nice yeah watch it alot of her tho
Destroyer of worlds
Methinks that was a different attractive blonde. Or was that line used in this series as well?
Six, EDI, Sarah Kerrigan...
I'll take Grace Park (#8, Sharon, Boomer, Athena) over Tricia every day of the week.
One of the best show openings evah!!! The music with the unmitigated unconcerning annihilation; gives me goosebumps every time! Tricia Helfer is the perfect Cylon representation in this scene, a reckoning of what’s to come.

This is a truly great sci-fi series. It covers War, Politics, religion and social interaction, as well as suspicion, treason and many other human traits. Season 1 is great, but it gets better and better with each season. This is my second favourite series that I have ever watched.

Fun fact: The shuttle the guy rides in on is actually the *same* model used in the 1978 BSG! If maybe just a few tweaks to fit the remake. The RCS for example.

"They have a plan"

Until we found out they didn't have a plan, it sure was creepy.
...nobody ever said it was a 'good plan'....
That part was put together by the Trump Administration.
@@johnmiller567 Not an American...but the rest of the world sees how out of touch Democrats are....and we wonder why much of your Big Media supports Democrats + tries to convince viewers that Trump is always wrong. Heh, whatever Trump says, Democrats do the opposite...regardless if Trump was right or wrong!
For example =Trump's plans vs Coronavirus (and the Democrats plans)
Trump = shut down travel to/from China (good idea).
Joe Biden = 'let's keep the borders open and not change anything'.
Bill de Blasio = 'I encourage people to go out in crowds' plan?
Pelosi = visits Chinatown to encourage tourism 3 weeks after Trump's travel ban.
Democrat plans would have resulted in more deaths.....but you'll never hear CNN/MSNBC point that out...you'll also never hear those 'news agencies' look into Biden's past sexual creepiness (even though there are plenty of videos showing him being creepy).
Somehow your mainstream media is making Trump look more responsible for Coronavirus than China....which is insane! In fact, CNN ran a propaganda piece (how the Chinese navy is more competent than the US Navy in dealing with the virus)......basically, CNN said 'China is doing awesome, according to China' = ?!?!

These guys didn't mess around. If you're going to remake a show, this is how it should be done. It's dark, clever, complex, and also has some of the best action sequences I've ever seen in science fiction.
While it's not without its flaws, it's hands-down my favourite science fiction show. I love the way the characters are gritty and down to Earth. They all have their flaws and demons, which makes them that more realistic.
Why does it have to be dark?
@@huskyfaninmass1042 Good point. It doesn’t have to be dark just for the sake of being dark, but it’s realistic, and reality can be dark at times. Don’t forget that what happened to the colonies was complete devastation and the loss of millions, so darkness will follow.
Last year SciFi did a BG marathon and broadcast the entire series in order (I stumbled onto it about 10 minutes into the Pilot). I recorded the series, which played out over several days (thank god for DVRs). I had never seen the show, and couldn't stop watching it. It was EXCELLENT.

Oh how Star Trek: Discovery wishes it were this exciting.
Star Trek Discovery was doomed from the beginning with its bullshit "political correctness" themes.
@DEEPFOXJUDE this series would have Betten so much better hat it not been for the idiot scientist guy, what am annoying character and side plot
When entertainers get too political or politically correct, it’s product is doomed from the start.
Hearing people rag on MUH POLITICS in science fiction (especially on Trek and BSG) is about the dumbest, laziest take possible. Smh

one of the best shows ever
I have to agree with David Powell on this one. I too enjoy sci-fi and tried to like the show (saw the original which never took itself seriously, fortunately) but the storyline, direction and camera work were atrocious.
@David Powell
Yeah, the writing went downhill at some point, and you could see there was no overarching plan and they were just making it up as they went along.

"And now we're going to do a few takes of the scene with you standing...."
"I'm gunna need a minute first..."
Anyone got some ice?
A small detail, but I really like that cylon-esque sound that plays whenever the text appears. I think it helps set the tone and, combined with it's blunt and cold delivery, makes an otherwise tedious exposition dump engaging. It's kind of like the Ken Burns effect but for text instead of still images.
What is so bad about exposition?
I bought this DVD at random. Then couldn't stop watching the show!
I was so happy Battlestar Galactica got a reboot!
Hard to believe it's 20+ y/o.
people hate this re imagining? You learn something new every day
Ardent fans of the original hated it with a passion when it was announced.

Loved the series, but man was it DARK ! Visually and thematically one of the bleakest sci-fi series I've ever seen - I actually looked forward to battle scenes as a break from the endless psychological warfare of cylons posing as humans while other cylons plotted to save humanity - it did my head in.
