- Hello everyone, this is my full build video showing you How To Convert A Nitro Powered Truck To Electric Brushless Power, in this video i turn a thunder tiger tomahawk st nitro powered st truck into a electric brushless power rc model, this is the full build video so you will see how i did it step by step from start to finish..

Yeah good fun aren’t they mate, ours did not last very long as it did not withstand the bashing we gave it lol but it was fun while it lasted lol... happy rcing 👍
@@MarcRCAddict yeah there a little on the fragile side. Had one given and only paid about £40 each for the other two so cheap fun really.
Hassle free is not always 100% correct but definitely less work than nitro. 👍
Heya Marc, i like your build! I too converted a tomahawk st to brushless a few years ago. I did it differently to this fabricating most parts out out aluminium, however i like how you've used the tools available to you to do the conversion as cleanly as possible! My only suggestion would be a bit of chassis bracing for the diffs, theyre only attached to the chassis with a thin land of plastic on those truggies and can snap with heavy bashing!
Also, if you're worried about year mesh, just open the four motor mount holes up very slightly, should give you enough movement.
Nothing like the smell of nitro methane first thing in the morning .

I bought a haboa 7 TQ chassis....alot to put on to make it a RC car...it's a nitro chassis but hopefully I can find stuff to fit and converting to electric...paid $14 for it thru dollar hobby....kit version

I do have an epic build coming up, it’s going to be very special but unfortunately it’s not the FTX full size outback 2 build yet,, in the end I pre ordered the outback mini 2 ranger from model sport, I want to make sure I don’t get bored or crawling before building one close to 200 quid.. but the build project I will be sharing in a week is proper epic mate..😁

Yeah it was a classic for it’s time, not the strongest of models but great for a bit of off road racing..
Were do you get your parts I have a thundertiger ssx and am wanting to move to brushless as I have had nothing but bother from the nitro engine braking parts lol

Thanks for the video, still usefull in mid 2021. I have a question though: are you able to adjust the gear mesh with that motor mount ? and is it then possible to change pinion ?
hello, your more then welcome im glad you like it..
with this motor mount you only had two fixed motor positions but being plastic i could of easily drilled holes in it to make more or made sliding hole positions to suit different sized pinions..
hey buddy how did you solve the one way bearing issue (as I see you have both forward and reverse)?

Hi Marc, great conversion. My son has just done the exact same conversion of his Thunder Tiger ST. the only problem we had was getting a pinion to fit. He had to make a collar to fit inside the gear taken off the nitro motor. Can you post a link of where you eventually got your pinion from please, cheers

Yeah the pinion gears was not easy to find,we had to go for some 25dp, and use a 3.5mm to 5mm shaft converter, I’ll have a hunt through my eBay shopping history over the weekend and send you some info.. happy rcing 👍

Bob Ferguson hi mate, thank you very much for that, it’s comments like yours that make doing these videos worthwhile.. I don’t know much about the modelspace Hummer but I do know as it’s a pretty big and heavy 1/8 scale I would personally go for a cheap and cheerful 1/8 goolrc brushless system, and don’t go too high of a KV rating something around 3300kv would be a good mix, here’s and eBay item number to one it’s a electric speed controller and motor combo: eBay item number:184123051606
You would also need to get or make a motor mount too though, loads are on eBay just type in electric motor mount and pick one you think would suit your chassis the best, also your have to find out your main gear pitch and get a matching pinion gear set for the electric motor..
I must admit I definitely know what you mean, some days I really miss my nitro models like my traxxas t-maxx but then i remember the hassle that can come with them lol..

Howsit buddy, Iv got a thunder tiger bx nitro which I’m wanting to convert to electric, been looking at the 3674 rocket motor but not sure as to which esc and batteries to use with the motor? Wanting a balanced setup with maximum power, any tips or advice anyone could give me I’d appreciate it a lot! New to electric so I’m clueless 😂

Hey marc, did you have to use a different radio and receiver? I'm planning on do8ng a nitro to brushless as well but unsure if i need to get a new receiver or if i can use the original radio equipment. Thanks

Type in 1/10 battery tray holder, 25dp pinion gears, 1/10 rc motor mount, and 1/10 1/8 brushless esc motor combo, that will bring up everything you need. 👍

@@avinashramlucken6441 hi mate, check what is the max voltage limit for the ESC and motor, but I would suggest sticking with 2s and 3s on this model 👍

What about chassis braces pal ,that will be in bits after first run
This was one of our very old models mate, 8+ years, it did not come with chassis braces and I could not be bothered to make any, the model lasted a few runs then we destroyed it bashing, but as I say in the video we made it to bash and break for a bit of fun 👍

There was no point in me adding the link to the mount I used from eBay as eBay links change too often, You could Just go on eBay mate and type in 1/10 motor mount that’s all I did when you the build, but here’s a few including the black one I used..

What kv motor are you using because i am trying to convert my old 1/10 scale r nitro buggy into brushless i was thinking a 2600kv motor a cheap 60amp esc and a 3s 3000mah lipo

@@chrisprud7688 yes mate you can do it to most nitro cars you just need to remove the break and clutch, engine, and match the gear ratio and mesh size 👍

There’s a big gap where the engine went I was hoping to put the motor there but the spur is on the other side any suggestions 🤦
@@chrisprud7688 so have a look on banggood or eBay for some motor mounts mate, there are many available, just make sure your get the correct pitch on the gears and your be sorted 👍

@@MarcRCAddict ohh no lol. I’m in the process of selecting parts to convert my HPI firestorm 10t from nitro to electric. The engine has ran off on me a few times and parts are getting hard to find. So I’m wanting to go electric. I’ve been following Kevin’s Chanel for his bangood parts so I’m taking parts from his 100mph car to put into my truggy.
@@matthewfenton8775 sounds like a good project mate, yeah it was the same with this the parts are non existent now so we though, convert it and then just bash and destroy it lol then cannibalise it for electrical parts, your be able to convert your firestorm just make sure you match the correct gear pitch and your be fine bud 👍
@@MarcRCAddict cheers mate :) I’ve ordered a pinion to see if it’s the same as the pinion on the clutch bell. Hopefully it’ll be the same. The current pinion is 19 tooth. I’ve ordered a 21 tooth as I want to increase the top speed.
@@matthewfenton8775 fingers crossed the pitch of the teeth will be th3 same, there are calculators on the internet that can calculate the pitch/angle of the teeth if your unsure on what it is.. also mate are you on Instagram?
