Thank Goodness for 2009. He’s too great of a player not to win one. This isn’t like Lendl at Wimbledon where it was never gonna happen. Roger really had a beautiful clay game
2011 has to be the most frustrating season of Roger's career. In all 4 Slams, he was playing at a very high level, but was unable to close out his strong performances. 2011 RG, he played perhaps his best match ever, stopping Nole's win streak. Had a 5-2 lead in the 1st set against Rafa and if not for a drop shot missing by a centimeter, would have closed out that set. Who knows how that match would have played out had Roger won that set. Then in Wimbledon, he built a 2 set lead over Tsonga in the QF, but somehow found a way to lose. Then in the Us Open, let a 2 set lead slip away against Nole in the SFs. And still, he had two Match points on his own serve in the 5th set, but ultimately lost the match. In a perfect world, Fed might have won 2 Slams that year. Instead, it was the first time in his career (since 2003) not winning a single GS in a year.
Absolutely agree, brother! I have followed Roger's career very closely for the last 15 years and 2011 was very very frustrating indeed. AO was the least painful I guess, as he was outplayed by Nole in th SF. In RG he should have won the first set 6-2 and then God knows... For me to this day Wimbledon 2011 is one of the great mysteries of Roges's careed. How he managed to loose on his favorite court from 2-0 from a Tsonga, who was not a grass court player at all. And US open is just a total hartbreak. Not being able to convert 2MPs second year in a row. I guess the 2010 match haunted him when he got to serve it out. Had he won, we would be able to witness the Fed Nadal final at the US open that we never had. For sure, 2011 Roger was pretty capable of winning 1 or 2 slams at least.
yes, I agree, 2011 was really frustrating season for Roger. When I look back, I also cannot understand how he could have lost to Tsonga in Wimbledon from 2:0 lead, thats crazy, as well as the defeat from Novak at the USO, but this is well known story where Roger really choked badly and didnt convert MPs on his own serve, so the loss from Tsonga was a bit forgotten I think. He was really capable to beat Novak at Wimbledon, so it is a pity he blowed it that year, and similar incomprehensible match and loss even from the MP came in 2018 against Kevin Anderson. Then again, the match where he defeated Novak at RG was great from Roger, now doubt about that, but still he could not beat Nadal and pick the title so again,he was a bit unlucky like many times in his career, had he won againt Novak at AUS Open instead of FO, he would have very likely grabbed the title there, what would have been better for sure. Then of course another frustrating match was W2019 Final, and I believe had he won the SF at USO 2011, he would have also won that match, but this came to his mind and choked again on the MPs, that was really heartbreaking loss. I also remember the USO 2015 final, another terrible match to watch..there were so many blown breakpoints from Roger that he could have also won it, but he wasnt confident enough to convert them, so here I would blame a bit Rogers team that he should have been prepared better in his head, but we wasnt. Similar story is I think RG 2007 final with the BP conversion against Rafa. So against Novak in those close matches it was realy about confidence since 2011 from Roger, he should have won at least 2 of them. When looking back to the rivalry with Rafa, on clay of course he was the beast and Roger had really bad match up with him, the one handed bh against his brutal topspin fh was a real issue on clay. I still think he could put up a better fight and get into the decider at least once, what he did it in Rome once on really slow clay, big pity he didnt win this match, he had 2 MPs there. He was playing with smaller rocket head as well, and should have changed it earlier, in 2014 it was too late I think. He should also have been prepared better tactically for these matches, like in 2017 or later he had no problem with Rafa outside clay so it was really possible, the "neo" BH helped him without any doubt to beat him, and who knows how it would work on clay in 2017, but Roger skipped RG that year. And I am pretty sure that he would have been capable to win at least one close match outside clay, either Wimbledon 2008 or Aus Open 2009 with better tactics. There are also two another GSs that he could have won both, or at least one of them for sure,it is AO05 and tough loss from MP to Safin and then of course USO 09, I like Del Potro, but this is really hard to understand how Roger could not win this. To sum it up, Roger had really great career, but still he missed so many chances to grab some more major titles against his greatest rivals or at those other two occasions I mentioned (apart from incomprehensible losses at W to Tsonga or Anderson, but these were only QFs, or USO2014 should be mentioned - everything was prepared for Roger after Novaks defeat, but suddenly Cilic showed up with performance of a lifetime so again bad luck for Roger..), and I am pretty sure he was capable to do it, but he somehow didnt manage to do...that still hurts a bit. Of course the age factor at least from 2014 favoured Djokovic in the Djok-Fed rivalry, thats no doubt about it,and slowing down the surfaces as well just at the time when Djokovic turned into his prime...still it isnt an excuse for US11 or Wimby 19 - this was only Rogers fault.
@@ondrejgeneric8980 slowing down of the surfaces around that time? Complete and utter myth with zero proof. They slowed down some courts in the early 2000s. Very scant proof of systematic slowing down of courts after that.

@@FacelessWarrior86 2011 was Nole’s year. After 2010 (some can even say after 2009), Fed was pretty miserable compared to Nadal and Djokovic. He won 1 slam from 2011-2016. And 3 from 2017-2018 specifically when Djokovic was injured and playing the worst tennis of his career. Excuses or not, Federer’s career took a horrible turn after 2010 despite the fact he was in great form and was still a top player for nearly a decade after. He didn’t have the mental toughness to beat Djokovic which cost him about 3-4 slams.
The shot at 4:10 was actually the shot of Federer's career. That was his fourth-rounder against Tommy Haas the day after Soderling beat Nadal. With Rafa out suddenly all eyes were on Federer, and he immediately went down two sets to Haas. That point shown was a break point at either 4-4 or 3-4 in the third set. If Haas gets it he only has to hold serve to close out the match. Federer made that ridiculously aggressive inside-out forehand to get to deuce, held, won the third set and then two more to move on. If that ball was an inch further Federer likely never wins RG.

The way I see it, Fed just did not try hard enough to find a way to beat Nadal on clay, after seeing and testing Nadal in Rome 2006 and In RG finals, I feel Fed decided that it is not worth it for him to grind very hard in clay just to beat Nadal, and will just play for his chances whenever he faces Nadal. He relied on his skills on other surfaces to win more GSs. For some reason, I feel the Fed lost his appetite for more wins, when he saw that tennis became a numbers game rather than a sport that you enjoy playing and he is like “ I could not care less”.

@@ondrejgeneric8980 Roger was getting beaten more often than not by Rafa on any surface, prior to the “slowing down of the courts” myth as said by you. Even though Rafa would have benefited from slower courts more than Novak, Rafa’s H2H actually was worse later in his career to Federer. Maybe they magically sped the courts up again? Lol
He is consistent he is goat
Actually Roger Federer has very good stats in RG. 9 consecutive QF's, 4 Finals, 1 FO Slam.
Most Elegant player ever to set foot on a tennis court.
Good job with the video. Excellent editing.
It’s tuff not tearing up while watching him finally win RG.🧡
Precious memories especially the year 2011 and 2019 also for me! Love 🤩 how he played those two years on the clay :D
Wish so much he was playing in this years RG :/
😍 He was such a beautiful player to watch!!
I sureeeeeee miss seeing him play!😢💔
Hate that he had to retire the way he did tho because of his knee, darn knee 😩 😫😫
One and only King Roger
The beauty one handed backhand we will miss him always
He’s arguably the second best clay court player ever…goes to show how amazing Rafa is on clay
What ? Loooooool ! Have you heard of a human being called Borg ? Roger isn't even 3rd. Not even in top 5 on Clay. I can't believe what you read online sometimes 😑

Now imagine Nadal's Roland Garros story when he retires.
Jeu Nadal, Jeu Nadal, Jeu Nadal, Jeu Nadal….
I can’t believe that the Roland Garros Official channel forgot completely that Roger played on 2014 and lost to Gulbis in round 4 and he played on 2015 and lost to Wawrinka in Quarterfinals
ty, rog🐐
Nicely made video...Thanks...
heartbreaking to see the history on clay. Had Nadal came up a little later, Fed woulda won way more. And for the record, beating Soderling wasn't easy. This clay anomaly took out Nadal that year then removed Fed the next year. Fed had to fight hard to win his only FO. In his mind, this win likely balanced out all the bad losses in the end.
When Agassi showed up that was so cool
Have a nice long retirement Roger!
Hopefully his full match against Sargsian from 2001 can be uploaded sometime!
What do you mean "nice long retirement"😂. Retirement is literally forever and permanent.
That beat at the end was crazy good
One of the greatest clay court players ever!
Nadal was the only one that could stop him back then, he would’ve won two consecutive calendar slams
5:05 is the joy in federer eyes
Y'all better start working on one for Rafa. Won't be easy to cover all his scenes.
It's such a shame that Fed's last match at RG is on an eerily quiet Philippe Chatrier
grazie roger 1°
Roger was also a great clay court player but Rafa almost broke him into pieces whenever they met at Roland garros. I wonder what Federer's grand slam tally would look like if there was no Rafa. But whatever his achievements are looks astounding because of his rivalries with Nadal or Djokovic. That's the beauty of the sport. #RForever
I would say around 26-28
I love how this was set to the third movement of Mahler 1.
we don't talk about it quite often but what a match from koepfer against roger !!
When asked which was the most important single point of his career Fed promptly replied RG 2009 VS Tommy Haas.
Down and out in the match Fed hit a sensational winner to come back and win the round, and eventually the tournament.
Surprised to see Delpo took him to 5 sets twice at RG. Don't remember that. He wasn't exactly a claycourt specialist...
roland please upload 2009 full match finale please!!
You forgot to show all his loses from 2013 till 2018. I remember one of them being against an inspired Ernest Gulbis.
Legend!
Splendid video, really missed the mention from 2004 against Gustavo Kuerten
at 2.31 the shot federer played where he ran back and managed a forehand. i just witnessed the exact same shot played by alcaraz watching the highlights of his semi final loss against novad 10 minutes ago!
People don’t realize that Roger Federer is one of the greatest clay court players of all time. Only lost to Rafa. GOAT
and gustavo kuerten..
In my eyes till the end of his prime in 2012 he was the second best clay courter in the world.
Roger is amazing! What a beautiful video!
Federer was the second best clay court player in his heyday. Too bad he shared a generation with the best.
Djokovic is better than him and djokovic clay record against nadal dont lie
Low-key the shot at 4:16 is history-making.
I felt like he shouldn't have withdrawn in that last RG because clay is actually a little easier on the knees so he really could've gone somewhere with it

Amazing to see Alcaraz basically recreate Federer’s shot against nalbandian
Does anyone know where to find/watch the full match of Roger's last Roland Garros match versus Koepfer? It streamed on Peacock, but they seem to have taken it down.
I wonder what you will do for Rafa.
He'll be there to cheer and cry 🥰

Roger would had been thinking “Who the hell that left-handed boy is??? ”😂
But don’t worry Roger, you weren’t beaten by JUST a boy… #RForever

what is the name of the music that they use in minute 9: 27?
What are the soundtracks used here?
Nvm figured it out: Breathtaking by Nicolas Boscovic and Titan by Gustav Malher

That music is a remix of mvt. II of Mahler's 1st symphony.
There is only one drawback in Federer and Djokovic's game on clay: Rafael Nadal
He only lose to king of clay, he never lose to final (FO) to anyone! RF is the 2nd best on clay surface. bagel nadal in all surfaces is the proof he's the greatest on all-around surfaces
I would say Novak is the 2 best, Roger is the third due to the number of titles on clay and wins over Rafa on clay.
@@deisolwasser5625 What are you smoking man ? The 2nd greatest Clay courter is named Mr Bjorn BORG ! No one else.

Yea F*** Roland-Garros. Worst social media presence of the slams, worst highlights, and their treatment of Roger's last game at RG was a disgrace.
From 05-11 Federer lost one match at Roland Garros to every player not named Nadal (ironically losing to Soderling in '10). He went 40-6 in those 7 years.
If not for Rafa, Federer would have won 6 FO titles in those 7 years and maybe a 7th in 2019. Federer was phenomenal on all surfaces, but Rafa on clay is just ridiculous. Two of the best to ever do it.

roger has to thank soldering for life time
Does he write "Rafa" on the camera? wow
Shame he didn't figure out how to beat Nadal at least once in 2005-2008. Or in 2011 after beating the absolute machine, Novak. I mean, Djokovic did it twice. A total no-namer did it as well, and it was in Rafa's prime at RG. So it was definitely possible. Especially for Roger who was a great clay player, with 73 RG wins and 5 finals. Kinda a mystery to me. Roger was the better player out of these two back then. He faced him in the final, in his prime, 3 times in a row, and still couldn't even put up a fight. Wasn't even close. I think that he could've done something different. Prepare in a different way. I don't know, I feel like he should've won at least once.
Injuries are the reason Soderling and Nole could pull it off. Roger was never lucky enough to meet the same Rafa Nole faced in 2015 and 21 or else, he would have won definitely.
