This video just helped me fix my penn 309. Thank you! Got it from bass pro and wouldn’t reel properly. Found your video and checked the small sprocket looking gear and discovered it was chipped. Replaced it all and works like a charm!
Possibly. It might also be that a piece of the gearing broke and is rattling around inside and getting stuck occasionally. Best bet is to take it apart and see if you can identify any broken components.
I had an old TruTemper and it did the same thing. In that case it was a screw that got sheared off. Unfortunately couldn't get a replacement screw for it, so it's become a decoration.

Great to hear! I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out, so I figured someone else had a similar issue.
I had a penn 309 years ago
I have one that the line comes out of it and it wont hold tension and stop the line from spooling out even when its set so that shouldnt happen.
So I have an older model Penn 309 and it’s making a ringing/ rattling sounds and sometimes stops reeling is this the problem or something else?

Where buy the gear ?
Is that a usa 🇺🇸 made penn??
Pretty sure it’s not American because it has the modern handle
