Something For The Playaz

  • I thought it would be cool to share a bit of what I've been putting together on the guitar lately... My guitar teacher lingo is terrible, so I'm sorry if you know the word I go for before I do... ("position" up and down the neck is what I was searching for)... I've been listening to a lot more of the earlier blues players lately and I'm digging a more "stately" approach to soloing.

    • @ltzp2
      @ltzp2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      making faces when you play guitar isn't a deep thing. Literally the dumbest thing Iv'e ever heard about playing an instrument.

    • @percussionjamz6704
      @percussionjamz6704 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      maybe not deep, I think she was meaning that john isn't putting out an image that sells like "the weird faced sexy guitarist" guy. when he makes those faces he's really deep into the groove and feeling the music with passion. Not trying to put words into Anna's mouth though. Don't gotta be a dick about it buddy.

    • @seangatehouse6547
      @seangatehouse6547 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Well it is a deep thing, whether you agree with it or not.... It brings out expressions that are practically uncontrollable. Mr Mayer himself would agree.....if you play yourself and don't get into it deeply, well I don't know then man. haha

    Great to find this type of material from the source. My 16 year old son and I are huge fans, and are working on learning many of Mr Mayer's songs.
    I know people have written pretty rough reviews of some of the his remarks, but when you really listen to the lyrics of his music, preferably in a chronological order, I like to think I get an understanding of how he made them. As a quick minded young person, especially one who spends a lot of time alone, it can become a habit for your brain to run ahead of the filter for your mouth. Or perhaps I'm full of crap, but this is what I chose to believe.
    Ether way, when a person shares their time and passion with others, with no reward other then the joy of sharing, I think that says a lot about them.
    The teaser release of the new song, "Love on the weekend" seems to be pretty popular, and we are hoping the rest of the material is consistent with that feeling of seeing hints into the creative mind of what we believe to be the best singer/songwriter/guitarist of our generation.
    Thanks Mr. Mayer for sharing,
    John and Corwin

    Really nice mr. mayer;)
    I play for about.. 13years now and it is really simple what you just told about that "moving up and down the neck with the same scale-thing" about the difference in toneshape... its really some sort of extra that separates you from most of the players.. I once noticed that it indeed sounds a bit different.. I play a lot of styles and it works everywhere ofcourse, but in blues it really makes a great difference!
    THX John a lot of people are happy with these lessons!

    Thanks John for this vid. I always try to find ways to get outta the same box all the time. And it helps me to watch and listen to another guitarist because I instantly get ideas and I try and branch off of the norm a bit and it helps greatly. Thanks again. Huge fan.

    This video was really encouraging! The fact that you stopped playing for a while and still play really good, just gives me hope and not to feel bad for not playing for a while too. I won't be doubting my playing efforts to much now.

      Agreed. But, getting out of the box in simple ways that are easy to locate will be a point of breakthrough for those approaching an intermediate level. Also, its good when one can be mindful of dynamic differentiation up and down the board while also being aware of how standard licks feel in different positions.

    this has been really helpfull to me honestly. i know what you mean when you say, my ears are getting tired of it, because, once you start playing that a penatonic in the same place, you get really tired of just palying the same little box over and over and over, kinda seem like you run out, but yeah, thank you john, it actually has a widened my playing alot.
