I remember older siblings telling us young uns about the cult stories back in the day. Never knew about the militaryʼs part in the history of campus cultism in Nigeria. ElDee is eloquent with these explanations. But yeah, fraternities have devolved to the point that nobody in Nigeria really calls them that anymore. They're all just bad bad bad cults and they've bled their influence out into the streets. I still have a machete scar from a run-in with cultists two years back in Southern Nigeria. Sad stuff. You can't wear certain colours in certain neighborhoods, and youngʼuns without a moral compass or guidance of some sort, either become internet fraudsters or cultists or both, basically choosing that path to money and “levels”. Hell, they even export it to places in the UAE, Malaysia and the UK, as immigrants. It's shameful.
Good to see ElDee the Don tho, after so long. I was jamming to his hit song “Category” not too long ago and seeing this now, I think I'll give it a listen again. Classic banger! ✊🏾

That's a crazy scenario flip. In America we go to college to get away from gang life.

    • @jonenih
      @jonenih 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@jameegarland there they don't go to college to join gang life.
They get to college, then get bullied, or checked. They can't stand for themselves so they run to others to protect them. Even our entertainers do it as well, davido did that with the Ayes in Nigeria, CB did that with the bloods in America. People just want to feel among and protected. And in a country like Nigeria you can't run to the law or the administration of the school and tell them "some man told me to stop talking to my woman cuz he likes her". Here you either stop, relocate with the woman, back yourself and set the record straight that you are tough too, or go get backing from the cults. But then you would have to pay dues, you will have to rank up, just like in the USA.. but no one joins the university thinking I want to join gangs.

But let me tell you something. While I get the story he is putting out to be true, he doesn’t know much about how these operations.
It’s literally very hard to kill 20 or 30 people.
Besides if he was marked, they will definitely trouble him.
Like I’m my university, if he dared fight like he did, I doubt he will make it to his dom. It’s just not possible. Once they gangs are down, then shit must go down. Maybe that’s the Lagos frat anyway.

@@josephjaspermedia3709 I know eldee personally. I went to ABU Zaria, and even when my kid bro and nephews were in zamani. He was still coming up before trybes men. He hung out with some croc city kids etc... I know if you ask him about Jai he won't guess 3 names before calling mine.
So when I tell you he knew nothing of confra prior. I know what I am talking about.
I know when he used to avoid Zaria city and Nuhu bamali boys.

@@kalualicho8090 a lil embellishment. You can't be roomies with a guy high up and you nor know! You nor dey see him doings and squad.
Secondly the whole military era B.S. the fact that two things happened simultaneously doesn't mean one is a cause and another the effect of said cause.
I was around when IBB SINGLEHANDEDLY destroyed the student union and education system. He didn't need the confra. He needed people like Atiku and Dino Melaye minded people.
Also no way you are karate chopping boys back in 90s, early 2000s and their boys go just dey watch you till you run reach room. When you throw first kick Dem for don wipe you 2x2.

I am a Nigerian, his facts aren't right, only those that knows , knows. He described a thug, frat guys or naija cultist are not thugs. It started in the university, but it wasn't just for revolution, it was a space for different ethnicity to help each other get better. For instance Aye was formed because of oppression from eiye , at that time , eiye where predominantly yorubas, and they banded together in Uniben, so a professor and 7 students decided to end the Yoruba tyranny. Frats started for different reasons, and he is so wrong, what ruined it, is that the govt started using this fraternities, armed them and they became the spy in the campus, it was the other way around. I am surprised at how misinformation travels😂😂😂

😂😂 Thank you my brother. You get sense. Most of the yeye comments here be like people wey never travel, live or grow up for Naija at all especially during military rule and having family in military. Nigerians all of dem don turn to westerners and their ideology. This guy western mentality of podcasting to inform the westerner too is embarrassing. Dem think say if dem tell oyinbo, dem go like them. Misinformation 💯

Werey dey quote manifesto. If you go by the manifestos of these gangs, you'll donate your hard earned money to them. But in reality, there is no single positivity in their activities. They're very destructive and engage in organized crimes ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping for ransom, drug dealings of international scale, human trafficking of international scale and the overseas wings have grown so big that they've started competing or collaborating with local gangs in Europe and the Americas

Articulate because he Sabi oyinbo well well??? He made good points but he started off very shallow with his explanation of what a true fraternity is and how they came about. Other than that I feel he should expand this convo with more global african Podcaster so it could reach the right audiences.

It was later hijacked by crazy people just the way ELdee has explained in the video . Once those who started something had left one or two ways the ideology always go with them .
