  • In this episode we pack up the family and head south of the border to the Sandos Playacar resort in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. Truly a family resort, we delve into the must do's and things to be aware and because we don't work for the Mexican Board of Tourism, you can expect an honest and unbiased review!

    I just got back from Playa del Carmen. I stayed at Sandos and I watched your video before going. The service I got there was amazing, the staff was super friendly and took care of our needs. It was awesome to get unlimited drinks and food. We hardly spent any money in the resort, the only thing we paid for was the room and souvenirs. The only complaints I had was the check in process, they take forever to check people into the hotel in the main lobby. Thanks again for the review! It definitely helped us.

    We are empty nesters in our 50s and one thing we have learned is "adult only" resorts can mean 18-20 year old American kids that are too young to drink at home screaming and going crazy at all hours of the night.. especially if you travel over spring break.
    We almost always go to family resorts.
    while we are no strangers to letting loose, it is nice to have a nice quiet resort after 9:00

    thanks for the video, Im travelling to this resort in late April for a wedding, Ive never been to mexico or a resort of any kind. Videos like this help prepare for the culture shock I'm about to have! Great to know about the terrible check-in times... My flight leaves at 12am and with 2 early morning layovers, I won't arrive at Cancun airport till Noon. Hope I can sleep to prepare for my lineup at check in!

    • @abroadwiththeburrells
      @abroadwiththeburrells  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Let's hope your check-in goes a lot smoother than ours, lol. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the culture shock. The resort serves as a great insulation; it's not as if you're being dropped in the middle of a foreign environment. Everyone on the resort speaks English and they do a great job of catering to foreign tourists. I'm glad we were able to provide some insight and we truly appreciate you viewing and commenting on the video!

    Going in May and Im a bit nervous as I’ve seen many bad reviews, thanks for all the detailed info! How long was the wait for room service? Do they offer a good variety of room service food other than breakfast?

    • @abroadwiththeburrells
      @abroadwiththeburrells  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don't be nervous, you're going to have a great time! It's certainly not the most luxurious resort (we've definitely stayed in newer and swankier joints) but it still delivers. What they lack in amenities they more than make up for in service. Room service took a bit, we'd say 45 mins to an hour and yes they do have a decent variety. It's 24 hour service so at 11 am the menu switches to lunch and in the evening you do have limited dinner options. It's not the greatest room service menu, but we have been to luxury resorts that don't offer room service at all! Again, it's not perfect. But it delivers!

      We did not use the kids club, we were fortunate to have Noni and Baba on deck to help with the kids! The teen club was for ages 12-17 if memory serves. Adults were allowed in but not allowed to play certain games. You may want to double check us just to be sure, but I know we're in the ball park. Thanks for watching!

    I came across your video while doing some research om Sandos Playacar. I'd read several reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor and was regretting my decision to attend my niece's wedding in August 2022. Your video did help get rid of some of my anxiety, so thank you for that. The resort/rooms appears to be a bit dated and reviews tend to also complain about maintenance issues. I can only hope that the management has read some of the reviews and worked to rectify the problems. Thanks again for the great video.

    Thank you for sharing your experience. You have a beautiful family l love ❤️ the JoPro. We we will be coming in November as a group of adults. We will be there for the day of the dead festivities 🥳 and we’re looking for a place with clean rooms and a beach. The sister property has a day of the dead celebration that we can attend for free as well as a cenote. Not concerned to much about food breakfast and lunch buffets are fine as we will spend most nights on 5th Avenue. The check in process is a bummer. Glad you enjoyed your family vacation. If we choose this resort l will come back and share my experience. Continued blessings to you and your family.
