Bigger Broadheads Don't Equal Better Blood Trails!!

  • One of the biggest concerns bow hunters have when considering broadhead choice is getting a good blood trail. We also field tons of calls with bow hunters wanting to switch broadheads because they want a better blood trail. However, it is not necessarily the broadhead that is resulting in a good blood trail. So what is?
Well, the most important consideration when determining if you are going to have a stellar blood trail is SHOT PLACEMENT. Now, there are some broadheads that because of their design produce better blood trails than some others, but if you hit a deer in the back strap, it does not matter what broadhead you choose, you will not get a good blood trail. If you don't get a pass through, you may not get a good blood trail. If you shoot the deer in the brisket, you may not get a good blood trail, regardless of your broadhead.
Blood trails are a direct result of shot placement. A well placed arrow that hits the lower lungs, the heart, or a main artery will produce the blood trails you are after. However, a high double lung shot is just as lethal but may not result in that desired blood trail.
So, when considering broadheads for better blood trails, take into consideration what is going to give you a pass through. Two holes is always better than 1! Also, don't blame the broadhead for poor shot placement! The broadheads will do their job when put in the right place!

It's refreshing to hear a manufacturer talk in an honest manner instead of promising fairy dust from their products. I don't currently use your broad heads, happy with my current setup. But respect for your honesty. Great reflection on your company and products.

Thank you! We are all in this together, and as much as we like to sell broadheads, we need to be a united front of sportsmen and sportswomen first. Plus we love putting out solid educational information...its more fun than sales anyway! 😁 Thanks again, and good luck in the woods!

Great information Chris, and so very true! We missed seeing you this year at the Great American Outdoors Show. I've had good luck with your K2, the package I purchased when you last exhibited, and it went through a hog like a hot knife through butter! That said, I think I want to try the K2 Hybrid, the violet colored one next with my new Wicked Ridge M-370!

We sure missed going there and seeing you too! We just didn't have enough inventory to be able to do the show. That is great to hear! Congratulations on your new M-370, i think the K2-Fixed will be the best choice though! It is just so hard to outdo that broadhead on a crossbow. Good luck!!!

@@afflictorbroadheads6259 Thanks for commenting and sending the reply Chris. I actually walked up to The ANNILATOR's booth, thinking that was you because you both started with the letter A! I even asked if you were there! LOL! I may test-shoot the K 2, but I'm leaning towards some experimentation this year mixing it up a bit. We shall see how that goes! Did you guys open up your spring bear hunts in Canada post-COVID?

This is great information! I myself just made a terrible shot, and imagine that there’s no blood. That’s MY FAULT!

If you want to shoot like RAMBO you have to PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE like RAMBO. Shooting a MISSILE SIZE BROADHEAD DOES NOT MAKE up for CRAPPY SHOOTING.
