As a Maori living in New Zealand...I find your reactions honest and hilarious...no offence taken. If you like this type of music you should google Maisey Rika, she’s a Maori singer song writer who sings on Te Reo Maori...similar style to the songs here...only better.
The shaking of the hands is called “wiri” it’s a representation of a life force within ourselfs that is expressed in the spirit of what we are doing. Wiri + upbeat song + smile = happy spirit and joyful life force
The poi song was a funeral song, the man speaking at the start was saying Rest In Peace , and that this songs dedicated to them Pukana (poking of the tongue means that you want to kill, (and for some iwi) eat the opponent, so pukana was a threat, today we still do it but not as a threat, just to respect what our ancestors, old warriors did The thing you were laughing at means, is telling history, if the hands make a triangle shape it represents a mountains if the hand is, everything’s maori do has a reason When the hands shaking while they sing songs and sometimes haka is because The haka I’m sure you know was used when war army’s were meeting eachother and while the other one was walking towards them up the hill or whoever they were, on a field, anyways one of the war army would do a haka screaming using their diagram so the opponents can hear them saying they would be slayed to scare the opponents into not winning the war or force them into making peace with them Most Maori threats would be about cutting the enemy that their talking toos head off and washing their brains and eyes and stuff out to keep as trophies but these days we still do it but not with the same meaning, now as a kind of welcoming, not every group doesn’t practices killing people tho, most do, most mau kau or patu wananga/days of training in a rank of warriors, and learn how to cut their heads off also but they don’t just cuts someone’s head off, their still normal humans who have jobs and a house and phones and eat Burger King every night, and go rafting and climbing mountains and swim in hot springs or a lake with a super volcano right underneath it (i don’t know if Americans eat Burger King or do what ever, you’ll might like Burger King and Mac Donald’s, just in case something sounded disrespectful or something, anyways this was your local explainer 🤙🏾
These are just teenagers too, I actually like teenager groups better than adults, adults are better in most aspects, but teenagers hype me up because their not as old as the older groups but can still perform a great performance
as much as i disagree with some of your opinions, i still find a way to respect them. no hard feelings no matter what your thoughts are on these videos. keep on your grind
this kura is where my baby sis went to school im from new zealand in whangarei, DUBBCITY these songs bring back memories xxxx shot swat for hooking the bruddas up with this xxx
For this reaction "I kinda like this though" to our Māori culture and Kapahaka I subscribed straight away!! I'm finna marathon all yo vids brother. Mauri ora!!
Thank you for the reaction brutha🙇🏾♂️, Love seeing my culture in the worlds eye🙏🏾🙇🏾♂️keep doing what u do💯 Much love from Aotearoa (NZ) Mana has no form brutha💯 (His physical form may not appeal to u but u cannot deny his strength and courage to do what he's doing: Mana..) I say with respect and love brutha🙇🏾♂️🙏🏾🤎 and again thank you for the reaction💯 #nzmaorilove
though you cannot understand the language, each performance tells a story that is expressed through song and body language, its universal and can relate to any culture who may have similar experiences. Our culture is spiritual and everything you see doesn't need to be understood to be relatable, it's something you feel.
We sing a song (waiata) first and then we do the haka and repeat that for as many times as we want. The shaking of the hands is called (wiri) . we all move our eyebrows for the nice maori affect and also our eyebrows make our eyes bigger and back in the old days we would scare people of with our scary power.
I actually appreciate ur reactions to my tribe bro i like how u just be u and even tho i wish u knew what they were talking about it's still a blessing u still feel the wairua (spirit)
The only time you won't hear of woman in a haka is usually in the sporting arena unless its a womans team but anywhere else they definitely make there presence felt
Mean Kapa Haka Group Lol Cause this is my area Whangarei Te Reinga Paraoa bro the performance had a story and journey thats why its up and down just like life my people were Narrators
What you should do one day is plan a holiday here in New Zealand to really learn my Maori culture and I understand the reason why we performed the way we perform with our Maori culture group we have categories to perform just like some other New Zealanders don't have message you I am like them like how you said no offence to the Maori culture on your comments about the Maori culture group you were only speaking from the heart no gratis best place to learn about the Maori culture is in the countryside like how I said I'm a big fan of you start planning a holiday here in New Zealand me being Maori to me you are all good
Things like how your judging people on how they look or calling our hand movements comical bro you’re here to react to the performance not how peoples appearances look, saying certain people look gross just coz they have fat or that they’re too little and shit, mad disrespectful man
Love your open and honest opinions but I’d say this probably wasn’t one of the best to react to, was actually my first time seeing this high school group and they’re definitely quite mediocre compared to most! And you’re pretty much correct about how they give like a dialogue and history that’s pretty much what the whole kapa haka performance routine is it’s based on telling a story almost like a musical I guess! And the shaking of the hands which is ‘wiriwiri’ is basically to do with the life force(wairua) within you. Just a quick rundown, hope to see more much respect xox
Hey I'm not trying to be funny but I saw you had did a lot of elvis presley music I just wish you would research who you giving a platformed to Elvis was a pure racists and fun fact he stole his sound from little Richie,so please be careful who you promote on your channel!!
@@Twano2am apparently he ripped off a lot of black peoples music and passed it off as his own...and he had slaves...but that’s all I’ve heard...i also don’t know how accurate that is.
@Marilyn Presley 2am I meant to say his family had slaves…and I can’t remember where I read it…but I did…a while ago…and I wasn’t saying this as fact. I was merely answering how the original poster may think of elvis as racist. And like I say…I don’t know how accurate it is…nor do I care…I don’t let it affect my day or my life.
Thank you again. Shout out Rāwhitiroa tho, not me lol. Glad you're actually enjoying these now

Don't forget... they're still school kids. That's why one boy there looks young and hasn't yet have a full grown body. :)
Broo the cool thing about this guy doing this is that's my old school and my brother and cousins are performing this 😎😎
The shaking hands can signify light shimmering on top of the water or heat rising off a hot road. Our people do this during the entire performance.

The haka was about the effects of alcohol and its connections to depression, mental illness, child abuse, domestic violence and suicide
The facial expression is everything.
They practice that longer then u think they did, I know because my brother and my 2 cousins a in that kapa haka group, and I used to go to that school
