Is the point of 'phrasing' something differently to: a) Try to match the feel of the song b) Make it easier c) Spark creativity or none, all, or some of the above?
Hi 23JLG23, 'Phrasing" is a rhythmic concept that has a many musical advantages to it. 1.) It can make a rather simple note value(s) come to life in a "new" way. 2.) It can actually teach Odd Times/Groupings (if taught in a certain fashion), as well. 3.) You can create grooves and/or fills and give the illusion you used different rhythms (when you really DIDN'T!). 4.) It teaches how to create parts for a song if the other instruments "phrased" their parts a certain rhythmic way, (which allows the drummer to really perform/compliment) the music for a great fit!.... I hope this answers a few of your questions. Good Luck! Todd Walker
Thanks for this, I like this approach to phrasing and linear patterns over 3/4. Opens up some ideas for using it in other odd time signatures.
Who else loves his pink drum kit!?
Hi Dan, the kit is a dark red, the lighting affected color. In my other videos you can see the difference. Thanks for the view.

Didnt like that snare drum sound! good lesson anyway :)
Not dissing on your opinion, but I personally think it helps define the character of that kit. XD
Thanks Jorge, The snare is a "Free Floating Pearl 5" X 13" Maple". I tend to go for a tight tuning.
What kind of weird drum is this?
