Its like why millionares are the only people who see the current statuse quo as totalty acceptable. I think its because Dark Souls 1 is...actually just not very hard. It's like a less forgiving Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. I think it was only treated as 'hard' as it came out in an era of outstandingly easy games when every company was pushing maximizing accessibility and the (frankly easy) Legendary modes of the Halo games were considered 'extremely hard' (discounting Halo 2's jackal alley. That one is just hard. Unfun and hard.) But more Dark Souls 1 doesn't play like any of the others.
All of the other dark souls didn't seem to design themselves around PUNISHING you for rushing past enemies, trying hard to force you to take things slowly and methodically, (despite actually being... a lot 'faster' than DS1?) DS2 also does things that none of the others do to a very large degree.
I.E. Weapon Sweet spots matter hugely and assuming you don't have high adaptability, you need to think about the actual animation your character does. (this is why dodging to the side is often a bad move, as your legs stay WAY OUT for a long while, and a lot of the famous 'bad hitboxes' of DS2 are more, your s start differently and end before the animation is close to done, often meaning your toes are touching a sword blade.)
Like, Dark Souls 2 is the easiest of the Dark Souls games overall, I think, because if you take it slowly, calmly, and know how to build, you'll do really well.
Also, my original DS2 build, and part of why I'm so partial to the game was "I am going to use nothing but two handed crossbows. And Not use a repeater."
It worked and it wasn't even painful. I even carried people through some bosses by just having a all adaptability, all stamina, all health char with only minimum stats for a sidearm (shortsword) and a light crossbow, and...nothing else. The whole game.

@@WereScrib You can run from everything in DS1, but what's intended is killing everything, but that dosen't mean you have to kill 30 enemies while archers and mages spamming from unreachable places that end up feeling like im playing Touhou instead of an Souls game..
There the encounters are designed so each one is intended (ignore the line of capra and taurus demons, and dragon asses, and dukes archives gets spammy like this but at least you can run).
Using Crossbows is cool sometimes, but being forced to use it because of how with anything else that isn't magic gets you killed, it's not fun.

@@anstorner ...Dark Souls 2 is not easiest with crossbows or ranged weapons, TBH its probably easiest with straight swords like most souls games. Dark Souls 2 is just not a hard game in the slightest. I've beaten it with pure hand to hand, bows, crossbows, scythes, halberds, weird mixed builds, magic, etc. Nothing in the game forces you to use ranged options and while range is actually useful in it unlike most other souls games, it's not particularly advantageous. The worst thing about the lack of adaptability is that every other stat is optional if you are skilled enough, and the lack of them makes the game more hard as time goes on. For example:
Health. Enemies do more and more damage so without leveling health you need to dodge better and more and not get comboed
Endurance: enemies do longer combos as the time goes on, so you will have to manage stamina better and better
int faith strenght dex: enemies get more health so you need this stats to beat them faster
equip load: you need better armor cause the enemies do more poise damage (usually)
Adaptability doesn't work that way. Different enemies and bosses need more or less adp to rol through their attacks completely not based on how far they are in the game.
For example I had much less problem with fume knight on my sl1 than with regular smelter demon because fume knights attacks dont need that much adp cause they are faster, but smelter demon attacks slower and you need more s to dodge it, on sl1 you need to be frame perfect nearly

For a positive, I think that being able to control how effective your roll is means that we can be as OP or as underpowered as we want to be. My biggest complaint is a lack of explanation given for the stat, and therefore making new players feel like it's resistance from DS1. If they had explained it at all, then I don't think it would be nearly as frowned upon.

The hardest boss on sl1 in ds2 (in my opinion) is blue smelter demon. This boss shows all the wrong things about the ds2 mechanics:
    1. you need to be frame perfect nearly with your dodges with blue smelter demon with low adaptability (assuming you have adp boosting gear) without it good luck.
    2. The passive damage was extremely painful cause it would make me have to heal with lifegems, cause normally he would do 80% of my health with a single hit. and the drain would put me in oneshot territory every 10 seconds. (with low adp its extremely bad)
    3. the mechanic of human effigies and your max health draining made this fight even worse cause I had to farm human effigies every 2 fights.
It took me 50 tries to beat him sl1. Later on my normal run i beat him without taking a hit. Because I had s

Just soloed him on NG+7 CoC. On NG he's a piece of cake if you stack magic defense. He starts by buffing his sword and as the fight gets longer he eventually ONLY deals magic damage. So a one shot (physical) in the early stages is just a fraction of that when he deals magic (and you have the gear to handle it). Also, if you try to roll as a reflex you'll get hit, he can adjust his delayed attacks at will, and on the fly. You need to watch how he moves, and contrary to Fire Smelter Demon, this one is better dealt with while locked off. All in all, a superb fight if someone has the patience to observe the differences with the Vanilla Demon. Also, beating Burnt Ivory King lets you use King's Crown to its full potential,no more hollowing/effigies. (Tho on NG+7 CoC that didn't made any difference 😂) On SL1 tho it was the only fight I had to summon, although i didn't know how to approach his moveset back then.

Part of the problem I'm seeing here is the hitboxes aren't always to blame, its that DS2 has a weird habit of having you receive damage late. And with low adaptability, the actual animations in rolls become MUCH more problematic. (Your tows stretched WAY OUT during the roll often mean your hitbox is present longer by rolling than just...walking to the side.)
Also the reason the poison breath hit you from behind is it bounces off walls. A few attacks like that work that was in DS2. They interact with terrain.
Also I think I figured out why people like or dislike Dark Souls 2. It comes down to:
Do you enjoy bosses or do you enjoy playing the general game with mobs more? Dark Souls 1 feels like a balanced experience where bosses and the world matter equally. Dark Souls 2's world and general 'road through' a level is the entire experience and bosses are just caps at the end of areas. And DS3 has zones that are utterly forgettable and exist to ensure you don't get sick of boss rushes cos that's its own genre.

A year ago I put thumb up on this video, but now when I completed this run myself (in SotFS) I'm not so sure.
    1) I realized that most of the run you don't even need ADP. Base i-frames are enough if your rolls have precise timing. Or you simply move your character out of hitboxes without i-framing it. Like Smelter's overhead slash, just strafe sideways and then roll. But sometimes it's shitty, yes. In case of the Lost sinner you simply stick to her so she won't use her stab attack with absurd tracking.
    2) You shouldn't have limited youself. As I see most of the time you used a mace, ring of blades and no armor\peasant set. I used dagger (lightning) - good dps but low stamina consumption, broadsword (dark) - the best thing, axe (fire) for more damage, and light crossbow (raw) to make some parts easier (Shrne of Amana easy 1st try). I also had mace for some pure blunt damage. Also poisoned knifes for some NPCs. I used dragon rings, Gundyr ring (you know what I mean) and life ring for more health and stamina. Armor to get a bit more surviveability. And of course, the brightbugs and mushrooms.
    3) You should have embraced the despawn. I turned on some cool music, summon NPC dudes and in for about an hour I cleared the road to Alonne.

It's all so extremely brittle, so you can only get a very short use out of them before you're forced to rest back at a bonfire to automatically restore them before they completely break. This actually makes fighting other enemies on the way to a boss a liability, because your weapon could completely break before you manage to kill the boss, in which case you're totally screwed.

I actually had the most amount of fun with SL1 in DS2. all of the different stat boosting equipment, incasing and just weird usually useless items like the Dark Pyromancy flame and Work Hook suddenly become invaluable.
I think it took me about 2 or 3 hours to get Throne Watcher and Defender. Never did the DLCs tho, fuck that lmao. I like playing DS2 with 0 ADP but getting one shotted by every enemy is something I don't have the patience for, especially shit like the runback to Sir Alonne.

    • @ehmolekkkkk
      @ehmolekkkkk ปีที่แล้ว

I did a run with no weapons(used Vanquisher's seal) and no armors, I didn't level ADP because at that point I didn't knew ADP was a thing(they put ADP as RES on my language and I thought it was resistência(resistance), and didn't pay attention to it), still was a fun experience.
...Worst part is that 2 years later I decided to check the stats names and look for the ADP that everyone was talking about, and RES was actually adaptabilidade(Adaptability), so ADP was still a valid abbreviation and they changed to RES for no reason.

My first playthrough, I wasnt aware that adaptability was tied to i frames. It made almost every boss awful. I only think there are 4 bosses that are higher than 6/10 and they are sin, burnt ivory king, fume knight, and alonne. Even though sin and ivory king are my favorites, they are A tier at a max because of the shit hitboxes. Trust me when I say that darklurker fucking sucks. One of the worst runbacks in the series, awful hitboxes, little to no time to heal, and they squeezed two high damaging enemies in a tiny room. I dont understand why people like it, way worse than pontiff.

DS2 was my first souls game. I died to last giant, a lot (like ten times), I've had 40 tries on bootleg Ornstein, trrifying 70-ish on Pursuer, and the Absolute, nonbeatable record for me - more than one hundred tries on Vendrick (I didn't know about the giant souls thing), I beated him by leveling stat connected to endurance to 90 and blocking his 3-hit combo.

Tbf I never had many problems with the Sir Alonne boss run, for two reasons:
1 - I treated the run itself with respect. I didn't try just running away from everything. I took my time, meticulously killing every enemy. It was fun!
2 - If I died during the run, I could just come back and kill them more, get my souls and level up. Rince and repeat until the boss run is empty and I myself am stronger for it.

I stopped this run after I beat Sinh - one of the best fights took about five attempts and I felt nowhere near the satisfaction I did playing DS3 level 1. I couldn't quite explain it, but I took it as a sign that the run wasn't worth my investment. Looking back, I guess it's because none of the fights are challenging enough to feel like a worthy challenge, and anything hard about them usually involves DS2's shitboxes.

Currently replaying DS2 right now, I think the executioners horse spray attack aims for the player no matter where they’re at, and this is the same with any other enemy and boss attack that’s ranged, they track you.
For instance the imperfect, their ranged attack will literally follow you from left to right if you try to dodge it, you need to roll into it or sprint several feet to your side, which it will still track you and explode by you, and that attacks hit box is ridiculous. I don’t care how high your ADP is, if you’re in a (in game) 10-15 radius of that projectile, you’re getting hit unless you roll into it and let it explode behind you. It also clips through obstacles, like we can’t shoot from around the corner because of the walls hit box being more than an inch out from the wall/columb/door, etc… but enemie projectiles can go through those hit boxes, and arrows track you as well in this game.
It’s really fucked because the tracking for us is shit, you every try to use a greatsword in that fucking game? You’re missing your target 4/10 times, easily. You need to be directly in front of them if your greatsword has an overhead slice. There’s a lot of wonky enemy and boss advantages against us, which tells me that they made this game to be hard, flat out. They didn’t want this game to be fun, they wanted us to think it was the hardest thing ever and they could only do that by giving enemies and bosses more advantages than we get

hmm...DS2 hitboxes are AIDS and cancer combined with syphilis, yet in ER where enemies hit the ground in front of them and you get tagged by some delayed aftershock on the other side of the arena is 100/10. got it. DS3 and ER enemies changing orientation mid-swing is okay. got it. Half of the enemies in ER being reskins of DS3 (or even DS1) enemies and AI is 1000/10. got it. DS3 and ER enemies playing Bloodborne while the player is playing DS3 is just fine. got it. Gank squads in DS2 is bad, but gank squads in DS3 and (especially) ER is good. got it.
NONE of FromSoft's titles are without major and more than likely repeated flaws. They have only become more adept at hiding their obvious limitations in flashy effects and speed.
