2023 Trento-Bondone Hillclimb Race - VHTRacing V8 Hayabusa Toyota Starlet Mikko Kataja

  • V8 Hayabusa Toyota Starlet 2nd race in Trento, Italy. 17.3km long Trento-Bondone is one of the most famous hillclimbs in Europe that climb to Vason, top of Monte-Bondone at 1.6km high through several villages and faster forrest sections. This run took 11minutes and 3 seconds with average speed of over 93km/h. Enjoy the ride!

    Very clean and precise run.Onboard footage is always a treat because of fantastic driving.Not to mention car sounds absolutely wonderful with new RPE engine.Really hope Buzet is on your list of races as well.

      Thanks, we got some feedback from the side of the track that the car could be a bit noisier, but let's see with the #1 engine and we will still work on the exhaust if we can get it a bit more "noisier". Inside it sounds fantastic as the 4AGE was, but the most is the response and acceleration on the throttle pedal which is already incredible.

    Hi Mikko, I congratulate you again to this great result. The conversion really seems to have paid off and you did a very good time. Good luck for the next races. You should definitely race with this engine in St. Ursanne.

      Thanks, yes it was only the second race with this and the learning curve is very steep. It will be a weapon eventually, and already is.. Must be happy. St Ursanne is on the list of races we want to do, when is just the question.

    Absolutely brilliant,both driving and the engine! Hyvä on lyönti Starletissa,hieno nähdä lopussa tuuletukset,selvästikin olit tyytyväinen sekä autoon,ja uskoisin myös tuohon vetoon.

      Haha, that was 2019 the first year i think? It was btw still the fastest time i did with the old engine, 2019 race 11:28 or something. Last year would have been ~10s faster without the brake problems, but that does not count :)

      @@VHTRacing that's already an awesome timing even for many veterans on this difficult hillclimb...and at first appearence! it was clear like the sunlight that there was a true maniac behind the wheel, reading "toyota starlet" among formulas and gt3s was just hilarious...just like when you read "fiat x1/9" among osellas and normas, in fact you reminded manuel dondi in many aspects...sincere congrats man...will you be in st ursanne?

    Sehr beeindruckende Fahrt! Und die Bremsprobleme des letzten Jahres sind trotz deutlich höherer Leistung behoben! Wo kann man Euch diese Jahr noch in Deutschland sehen?

      Danke, Bremsprobleme hat ich doch noch. Ich könnte nicht bremspunkten richtig attackieren. In erste Training und auch noch in diese Rennlauf meine pedal war schwach letzte ~6km. Endlich muss wir neue vornebremsen einbauen nächste Winter. Das war nur problematisch weil ich habe endlich erst jetzt neue vorne reifen mit mehr platz. So wie gesagt ich Ich habe leicht gebremst nicht wie ich möchte.

      Thanks, you just have to remember it. I did not feel so confident since I had no time from wrenching to practice it, but somehow I just got the right flow and it came quite naturally. I can see that in many places I knew what to do, how I don’t know. I’ve been there few times so I guess I’ve have some muscle memory maybe.

      I believe there are simulators out there that has this track in it. So he must have spent many hours to remember the track.

      This year i had no time to practive the course before the race (simulator or video), all my time went to getting the car ready. Then at Trento on Friday i drove the course three times up with a rental car. That was all my practive for the race after last years race. I did not tried to "remember" it, i took approach i drive how i feel confident and safe. You can see that i lose a bit time here and there, but still i am happy and i can see that i have some parts of the course quite good in the muscle memory already. I dont think there is 1s/km really for the whole course (17km), but maybe some sections and some less. So 10:5x would be there with the car as it is for sure. Especially without the front brake fading.

      How can the weight trasfer in the front when accelerating and in the rear when braking?

      Who says it is weight transfer? Google: sae vehicle axis system and see for the Fx tractive force acceleration is positive "The x-axis is contained in the wheel plane and it’s parallel with the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. The positive direction of the x-axis is pointing towards the front of the vehicle.
      The y-axis is perpendicular on the x-axis and the positive direction is pointing to the right side of the wheel.
      The z-axis is normal to the road, the positive direction being downwards. In the ISO standard (ISO 8855) the positive direction of the z-axis is pointing upwards."
      What you just dont see in the visualization is the sign of the lateral and longitudinal acceleration and in my case i have negative down positive up the way you would usually look at a friction circle. There is no standard for visualization of this in the video ;)
