I did a similar thing to you on my first playthrough, came back from getting wings and fought lost kin. That was a several hour adventure for me but beating a hard boss feels so good! Also, you don't need that compass in combat, maximize your notch usage!

Just use every lifeblood charm. With 20 masks, you won't lose. This works for every boss in game. Also it'd be better if you got pure nail, for damage.
