This went from "must-have" to "easiest pass of my life" in record time for me. There's a theory floating that the price gouging is them attempting to compensate for retooling the van. If that's the case, WILD they expect their loyal customer base to pay for their own mistakes. Then again, their history of EXTREMELY poor customer service and social media engagement further proves that the people making the decisions over at NECA are scumbags who would sell their grandmas for a nickel. Nothing but respect to their team of artists, but we all know they aren't the ones responsible for these terrible decisions.
People worship NECA but they have been shit for years. NECA figs used to always break, back when they were really only at TRU before it closed. Then they got the cartoon TMNT license and all the turtle heads started to worship them. The OG mirage turtles were at every comic shop when they first released and nobody cared.

@mortcrimpjr that first line is exactly how I feel minus the "easy" part. I def still want it but I just can't justify that price for what is being offered, knowing it might only get worse with the next two sections. I think this is just an "everyone will by this no matter how much it cost" thought process and it's blowing up in their face. I think they flew a little to close to the sun on this one.
@@noyougrowup69 Y'know I wonder if this blowback from the fans is why that listing for the oversized Krang's Android Body was decreased from 125 toi 85. Purely speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is them trying to get back to the real world with the rest of us.
@@mortcrimpjr if you’re referring to the one on BBTS, that’s the S7 one. And it’s in the Super Cyborg series not Ultimates, which if you don’t know what those are, you are going to be severely disappointed when you find out. They’re basically statues.
I’m honestly hoping the NECA one is only $125. I could see them trying to go $150 at the last minute now.
Gotta say, I do my own dioramas with popsicle sticks, a decent airbrush and air pump, x-acto knives and a chamfer cutter, and professional grade CA glue (cyanoacrylate). Diorama is a kindergarten plus project, and it's exactly what you want the way you want it.
I bought the S7 Turtles, then Splinter, then, Slash, Leatherhead, Mutagen Man, all the glow exclusives, pre-orders for a lot, and I plan on building dioramas for all of them... It's so fun!! I keep mine the size of a milk crate (which isn't quite 1 foot cubed, but it's a good base line), but so that it can fit inside for storage. Then I make them somewhere they would sleep. A room, or something like it. With Slash and Leatherhead, I will be combining theirs into a bayou diorama, but it will be as big as what I call a double-wide milk crate (which isn't accurate, it's just those milk crates that hold 6 rather than 4 jugs of milk). Again, largely for storage purposes. They are all projects. Sometimes I just cut up the boxes they come with, use what I want for walls and such, then make a stick frame and go from there.
I try not to rant on most of youtube, but I watch your videos pretty regularly, and, feel we are on the same page in a lot of these regards, but, I know you enjoy reading the comments, so I felt it was appropriate to nerd out. I just want to encourage you to try something out for you before you spend $400 for a sad diorama without accessories or figures. $400 is a LOT of cheddar in the craft world... popsicle sticks paint well, cut easy, and glue fast!!

The price is not what I'm complaining about its what you get for the 300. Honestly this should have been 150 to 175, staying in the price range with the street diorama. I think this is going to send a bad message about Neca. If I'm paying 300 or more it better be a Technodrome. Definitely a pass

@robledoeugene1975 that is really the more accurate way of looking at it. I'm not going to sit here and be like $300 isn't a lot of money to me, but I would spend that if I thought what I was getting was worth that.
If they did a Technodrome as a vehicle and not a dio piece it would be like $1,500 under this pricing structure.

This is some of the wildest nostalgia gouging I’ve ever seen. $300 is insane for what you’re getting and there’s no doubt in my mind this is gonna get rereleased in different colors with different accessories for all the various lines. I went from super excited to absolutely deflated in record time. This has me scared silly for what they’re gonna charge for that giant Krang if this much plastic with no moving parts or electronics that you assemble yourself is $300.
This thing is also coming off the heels of a target event with hundreds of dollars worth of TMNT toys and they also just announced another target event for September. Not to mention some mirage stuff is now apparently Best Buy exclusive. Random walmart mail in figures. Lootcrate exclusives. Convention exclusives. Online exclusives. There’s never any time to regroup and it feels like theres always some huge purchase or event right around the corner that’s gonna ask for another $200-600 and it gets wilder the more lines you collect. I just can’t keep up with it all anymore. Really hope this slows down a bit so I can enjoy collecting toys in general as a hobby again instead of collecting only TMNT cuz there’s just so much pouring out the TMNT pipe.
@spadedonemcdysentery2493 that's exactly how I felt I've been so hype for this and when I heard the official price was $300 I was super bummed. I'm hoping the Krang is like the 1:4 scale figures at $125 since it's about the same size, but now I'm not super confident.
That's pretty much why I've abandoned all other IP's I was collecting other than X-Men, Spider-Man, and MMPR. I'm skipping variants for mirage going forward and I don't collect the Archie line. But now that I'm confidently out on the lair, that's even more money for later. I've accepted that I can't collect everything I want to and I'm good with it now. Honestly, I'm way less stressed about collecting than I was 6 months to a year ago since I started collecting less.
@@noyougrowup69 I’m in pretty much the same boat. There’s just so much NECA TMNT flowing that I just can’t keep up with it all and things are going up in price. I can’t afford to even LOOK at any other lines. I’ve walked away from the Archie line and I’m skipping the odd colored mirage stuff too. Only thing I carve out space for is Jada Toys Street Fighter. Those are cheap and spread out far enough that they’re easy to justify buying but any other line is just a no go for me anymore. They’re also just amazing figures in general.
This lair is a real kick in the balls. It basically confirms that this line isn’t for average collectors anymore. It was one thing keeping up with store exclusives and events but $300 is new bedroom tv money. It’s Xbox series s money. It’s car repair type money. Add in the accessory set for the tv and we’re up in ps5 money. This ain’t right and if they feel they can get away with charging $300 for this, I cringe to think what that Kraang will cost since his molds aren’t exactly easily reusable like a lot of the other 1/4 scale stuff.
NECA made extreme sets look really good all the sudden.
@OldDirtyCollector yeah after seeing the price I decided to explore other options as well haha.
I think the main problem is that it has NO play features. So $360 for a diorama with accessories vs $250 for the Turtle Van which has a ton of play features and the value just doesn’t add up. It’s also not an action set piece. It’s a place for your figures to loaf and eat pizza. If it was the Technodrome with battle features for fun action displays I’d pay $300 and more without question.
@timbungeroth even if they were the same price I would say the wagon has much better value for the reasons you stated. I feel like it just seems a lot more fun as a thing. If they do a technodrome as an actual vehicle and not just a dio piece we're probably talking 1k+ with this pricing model.
These lair pieces are modular and you can line up the circular holes in different walls to create different types of layout. For example you can have them all in a line, or have them arranged in a 'T' shape, or if we get Splinter's dojo or the bedroom, you could place four pieces in the shape of a big square where they loop around.
So I will definately be picking up NECA's diorama as it seems like the best version out there and it will fit in later with the other pieces. I am unhappy with the price though so I get why many people are not getting it.
@nicholashill8724 I definitely think it's the best that you're going to get for a mass produced lair. You might be able to find better customs but they will probably be quite a bit more expensive.
It is very cool there will be a lot of cool ways to display it like you mentioned but space is going to be the tricky part for most. That square with 4 sets would be damn close to a square yard.
While I agree that the price is higher than I expected it to be, I have been wanting this sewer lair from the moment it was announced. I wish it was cheaper, but I pre-ordered that thing day one and am so excited to have it for my collection of TMNT action figures. Says it should arrive by December. So that will make an excellent Christmas gift.
@JarrodCrooksfilms I thought I really wanted it until the price was announced haha. Tons of people are excited to have ordered it and I hope you guys love it. Hopefully there's not delays but I feel like that's rare at this point for big projects like this.
I didn’t even think about needing the accessory kit to have a complete living room… Yeesh, you put it that way, and this really turns into a huuuuge pass for me… just gonna try and make my own at this point lmao
@OsRaa I would say the couch and TV would be the only two accessories that are truly mandatory for this set, so it's crazy the TV wasn't included. I think craft stores are about to see a massive explosion haha.
Completely agree! I was all excited thinking the price would be $150 - $200 and I genuinely thought them promo shots with the living room and the garage they kept showing off was what you were getting. I didn’t for 1 second think you’d have to buy 2 to achieve that. Long story short, my excitement disappeared when I found out the price. I’m just gonna make my own and spend the money I would’ve dropped on this on the Kotobukiya Yu Gi Oh Winged Dragon of Ra statue. Then I’ll have all 3 Egyptian God statues 🤣🤣🤣
@scottybandicoot6347 that's exactly what my high low prices were. I thought the Van was going to be $300-$350 so I thought maybe NECA was pricing their big stuff well. I feel the exact opposite on this one. During the interview with Pixel Dan, I think they mentioned buying a second lair for the van but I could be wrong.
That's the way I've been looking at it as well. I would rather spend that kind of money on something expensive that I do think has the appropriate value.
I am definitely 🤬 at the pricepoint. It doesn't matter to me bc my N.E.C.A T.U.R.T.L.E. figures are still in box.

Man, it's a shame people feel like they're getting burned by this. I hear everyone's complaints but I was never going to go in on this cause I just didn't have the right space for it in my double-wide glass cabinet. With your current display in your room is, you're better off saving that $300 for something else down the line.
... like a Technodrome, maybe???
@jacobniehaus I've accepted that I'm not getting it and I'm cool with it now. Like you said, I could do a lot with $300 that would work better for me.
Honestly, I would much rather have a vintage Technodrome than the NECA lair. I feel like they were going for right around there the last time I checked.

@Rich575 yeah I would expect something custom like that would be quite a bit but people spend god knows how much time on that stuff and I also consider stuff like that to be art. But I hope you enjoy it dude, it does look fun.

@starkillerbase8726 dude my first move would be moving somewhere that doesn't have a 20% tax haha. Also, I feel like there will be more add-ons to come. I bet there will be an accessory pack for the kitchen and lab if not both.
Don't do it bud. Be strong! NECA will start thinking that they can start charging exorbitant amounts of money for items that are of lesser value.
@DefinitiveToys1 after a week of thinking it over it got easier and easier to decide I'm out. There are many other ways I'd rather spend this kind of money.
Yeah, this is an easy pass for me. It's cool, but it's way too much for how little you get, and I'd have to completely reorganize my room to fit it anyway

Bro, Im glad you feel the same way about this crazy price reveal. Also, they're supposed to release two more rooms, and at 300 apiece. I wonder what caused neca to put at this crazy price point. Honestly, it should be a crowd-fund. Neca should look at what hasbro is doing with their crowd-funds. I mean, we're not getting anything else included for the ~900ish after everything has been released, so what's the justification on the $300 apiece for 3 different rooms....? I know I wont grab this/these.
@KootenaiKing not only are there two other pieces coming but you need the current accessory set, Donny's portal generator, and they will probably do another accessory pack for the kitchen and lab as well. Throw in tax and shipping, and I think you are spending $1,100-$1,200 when it's said and done.
They should’ve at the very least made it $300 including tax and shipping.
@Plvcky agreed $250 was my limit price after that was thrown out at SDCC which would have came out to that in the end.

Speaking of high prices isn’t the NECA Turle van $500? That’s a lot for a vehicle $200 more than the lair.
@alexhickenbottom2820 the S7 one is $500 (insane) the NECA one was $250 which I felt was reasonable especially after S7 priced theirs first.
I have no dilemma. I wanted it so I bought it.

Just my assumption: I don't think they are selling the Lair priced for the Lair. My assumption is making the Van , especially after the redesign, cost them more than they expected and this Lair price is trying to recoup some cost. Comparing other lairs isn't really fair, everything from customs to Ramen Toys, etc., there are a lot of variables. Just comparing to other NECA products like the dioramas and Van, it's kind of clear this is heavily inflated. I can almost guarantee that Van isn't generating much profit, especially considering its low volume. Is it fair to us? No. Would they have sold WAY more Lairs had it come in around $200-$250? Yes. I don't think it was the right move. I almost feel like they don't want the Lair to sell a lot and just want the high net profit on fewer sales. This may also be the way they get out of actually producing the other rooms, due to "low sales." Maybe I'm completely wrong but it's VERY apparent there's nothing in this Lair alone to justify the price tag.
@retromutagenpodcast9365 I definitely don't think that is a far-fetched idea. I was honestly surprised that the van came in at $250 in the first place my guess before it came out was $300-$350. It definitely does seem like you get way more with the van just comparing all 3 of NECA's big things the price of the lair compared to the other two doesn't make sense.
I wanted this bad when announced, but no way I think this is worth it and can justify it. Passing. Find myself passing more and more bc of being priced out.

I do think the line is super fun but based on a strictly budgetary decision I didn't go in hard on the line. I got the disguise 4-pack and I have the glow Leo/Raph and I'll grab the Donny and Mikey when I find them. Might get the van to put them in as well.

I’m paralyzed & I researched the market for a. Similar lair ($400-$450). But you think Neca could do it cheaper. & I’m. Not a flipor but for the lair I’ll try… or I might use 2nd lair for the van, either way necas lair worked best. So I got 2. But check out mad hatter & see what Ramen toys sewer looks like ::! It’s cheaper but it’s not that cartoon lair & September drop I think (pre-order drop)
@vadoraid2517 I didn't end up going in on it and I'm not even bummed about it. I've been keeping my eye on the Ramen Toys situation and I like the stackable idea, but honestly I think I'm good on a lair. The more I think about it, I would rather just spend that money on other figures.
Yeah, I’d probably have passed on it, but ever since it’s announcement I have been saving & paying off the toy credit card, even had my nephew build a special cubby for it. & I’m paralyzed with no life but reward is no responsibility either. I’m sad I’ll be the 10 -20% owning this. It should have been affordable to more fans. Cuz in reality these are just wants not needs & Neca should’ve considered this when pricing. But I commend you for making a family man decision. I was in your shoes once. I wasn’t always paralyzed

@AirMasterNeo it might not be for another year or so, but they will run the van again. They've done the street scene a couple times. They did Tokka and Rahzar a couple times. They'd be crazy not to.

If you pay $300 for this you'll be justifying the price to Neca. Make a stand by passing, so hopefully they will learn from it. I'm guessing they set the price so high because the van sold so well at $250.
@wildnight8776 I'm not sure if I'm making a stand but I'm definitely out on it. Even if the other lair pieces are cheaper, I won't want them without the living room anyway.

I don’t have that much experience in this realm but as with any collectible hobby eventually you become desensitized to it. Still the fact the accessory pack isn’t included for that price does suck
@SONICobra oh trust me I def know what you mean with the normalization of dropping more and more money while thinking less and less about doing it. This is really the first time anything I've wanted has seemed so far off with what you get for what it costs.
What they should have done was make this a stackable set. Empty. No interior stuff. People would have gladly bought MULTIPLE and they would have made the EXaCT same amount- because people would have bought two or three and put them side by side and made a large sewer diorama.
They should leave out the interior stuff and sell those separately in a different accessory pack.
@IAMTHESTARMAN I'm pretty sure that's what the Ramen Toys one is supposed to be just the lair, no accessories. I'm sure you can find customs at good prices all day for the accessories.
I’m taking my time when making this decision. I’m with you. Value proposition is hot garbage especially if you plan to get the kitchen and Lab (I need because Donny is the best lol). But I do like the way it turned out and have been looking forward to it for quite some time now. Decisions decisions.
@robertkelley198 over the last week the decision became easier and easier for me. I do think it looks great, but at the end of the day I think I could drop 1k+ that would make me much happier.
@@noyougrowup69agreed and that was my first issue with it. In hindsight, wish the portal generator was sold after the fact as now I feel like I wasted 60 bucks if I don’t get the lab.

It’s funny how both of us threw down $400 for the Mezco Turtle Set without bitching about it, but somehow this $300 feels outrageous for what you’re getting. The value just doesn’t seem to be there. It’s for sure one of those situations where you have to think over how badly you want to overpay for something just to add it to your collection.
For $400, DIY looks a lot sexier, doesn't it?!
@@3Y3ECE Funny you mention DIY. This is the first time I’ve seen a play set that looks basic enough to tempt me to just build one myself. I’m sure I could get lost in TH-cam diorama tutorial hell and the expense of crafting supplies would add up quickly but it could be a way to bring a little more fun to the hobby.
@@joshmv you would love custom results, and like I said, $300 in hobby supplies buys all my airbrushing equipment, and all of .y other craft supplies. From that I have made 6 dioramas, with several more to come (still with existing supplies..) and that is not counting the cheap l.e.d.'s I bought, an RC car 'smoker' exhaust (little vape that makes sewers look that much more real), glow in the dark/uv reactive paint... It's limitless!

@joshmv for the record, that was 4 things for $400 haha. In all seriousness that was where my mind went as well but then I realized that action figures are much more exciting to me than a thing to put them in. There's so many figures that I hold in my hands and I'm like this thing makes me so happy. If I were to just stare at the playset by itself, I don't think it would do that for me. The star of that display would still be the characters inside of it.
Even comparing it to the van, I like the van as a thing in general more than the playset and I think you get more value for less price with the van as well.
@3Y3CE my only problem is I have zero artistic ability, which is a big problem in this situation.
