Wow. I am so proud that is one Explorer that you do not see every day. Congrats nice mods. Sweet sound i love it. Thanks for sharing cant wait to see more upgrades .🚙👍
You guys did great work on that explorer I've got a 1991 Ford explorer XLT automatic push button 4 wheel drive but for $1,000 no rust I'm not complaining
Thanks for the info! I recently bought a 94 explorer and I’m wanting to swap a V-8 into it. This has got me pretty excited I will have to find a donor vehicle and get started!
great video.good point the bronco II,s are so hard to find in good shape and expensive now also.plus the explorer already has the 4.0. 8.8 ,,dana 35.i l like the explorer sports 2 door.
I have a 91 ford explorer and I wanna build mine exactly like his its badass I just dont really have the knowledge to build something this cool I have a automatic with the gutless 4.0 I want to put a 4.6 or a 302 like Eric's in mine and install the james duff long arm kit and dual shock conversion and definitely upgrade my front ttb axle
Have the Bii and the Explorer both are great and reliable with regular maintenance. Solid axle swapping the Biii right now for my toy truck and lifted the explorer 5 inches really easily and it’s now my daily driver. I want to reach the level you two have gotten to with your trucks. Thanks for the awesome content, keep exploring!
The 4.0 has 225 tq, the 302 has maybe 280, if it's set up with the Explorer cam and intake. If you mod either motor you can get more torque. The 4.0 kicks a ton of ass for what it is, and puts out 200 tq at 1,000 rpm. The 302 has a stroke of 3", the 4.0 has a 3.31 stroke. Long stroke always gives more low end tq, which is what you need in a truck. I own both, and also 2.9s and 351s. All great motors!
I built this motor and it’s a mustang HO 5.0 that has ported heads, roller rockers,headers,65mm throttlebody and it runs on the mentioned MicroSquirt. This motor most likely makes more than the rated 300ftlb and back to back comparison between the original 4.0 and the 5.0 is night and day difference. The 4.0 was nowhere near as powerful as the current combo.
I am likely going to be buying one of these first gen explorers as a winter vehicle. My wife is concerned about snow, as her car got stuck a bunch last year. I had a XJ a while back, but am a Ford guy, so I am actually looking forward to a new project
