Dancers from Black Harlem grooving to the Mambo Dance Craze, learned from Spanish Harlem Dancers... adding their own version, with the Spirit Jerk... (check out "Mambo Madness" - Tito Rodriguez)
I agree, mambo has always been a black thing, its just that most African-Americans get hung up on the Spanish lyrics and miss out on a truly African experience. Recently, I visited Harlem on a Friday and went to Windows over Harlem (125/7th Av). There, I saw this same crowd of mambo dancers, they are smooth. A must visit for hard-core mambo, they dance with soul and passion. Caution, please do not dance wild and disrespectful on the dance floor or you will not get a chance to dance.
African american danced Latin mambo for a short time...but they had their own partner dancing Blacks had ( SWING DANCING , Lindy hop , Jitter bug , Jive, " etc.) its a fun style Even latin dancers added..swing dancing quick moves and steps...into the mambo 1940s. and latin ballroom dancing. today
è molto importante sapere che il mambo che state ascoltando è di machito el rey del mambo ,famosissimo negli anni 50 a cuba ,il signor macito si chiamava frenk grillo ,suo padre era di palermo (italia)
If you like this, then go to the Friday's after work party at Windows over Harlem (125/7th Av). Should you go, you are in for a treat, its the best kept secret, perhaps, because everyone is mature and know the true history of the dance. Witness for yourself, it will rekindle your love for mambo.
Camalejon-Sure, and some think they can erase the Latin-American out of that. This is music by Machito, the Afro-Cuban heredity, the Mulatos, the Afro-Caribbean, the Antillean Islands, the West-Indies present with their sounds, movements and instruments. That is integration and no one can deny our part in that. Greetings.
licensing is the enemy of culture. Rather than make sure they get their dollar instead they deny people the chance to hear and get inspired by this 50-year old music!
missTangerine57-Muy cierto, porque han llenado el baile de acrobacias y gimnasia rítmica, como si no fuera para todo el mundo. Me encantan las acrobacias y la gimnasia, pero en su lugar, que no es la pista de baile.

Amazing....so nice and so many years passed by.
But, who's playing? No less than Machito and his AfroCubans.
Shit I missed it, I was born 21 years after. I wish I could have known Doc Emmet Brown and get in the Delorean back in that time.
What I love to it's not only the Dancing but they all dressed to in press
Machito and his afrocubans. The title is "Tanga", Live at Birdland club, 1951.
